North and South Atlantic Oceans.
The article claims that "The Atlantic Ocean is divided in two parts, by the Equatorial Counter Current, with the North(ern) Atlantic Ocean and the South(ern) Atlantic Ocean split at about 8°N." However, according to International Hydrographic Organization the border lies at the equator. See: International Hydrographic Organization, Limits of Oceans and Seas, 3rd ed. (1953) (still valid), pages 4 and 13. - Episcophagus (talk) 15:03, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
The history section has nothing to do with the Atlantic Ocean
the whole history section describe human evolution. What has that got to do with the Atlantic Ocean!? Matchico (talk) 14:12, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
The history section really needs fixing
Some of the wording implies that the transatlantic slave trade was some essential service to repopulate the Americas to “replace” indigenous people. "Exported" is the wrong word for kidnapping and trafficking Webmaven87 (talk) 01:06, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
"Blue crime"
I had to remove this recent monolith added to the article, because it was utterly unencyclopedic in style and form, and given totally undue weight in proportion to the article scope. Remsense ‥ 论 15:16, 10 May 2025 (UTC)

Atlantic Ocean → The Atlantic Ocean – "The Atlantic Ocean" is a more proper name, as well as better grammar. For example, you wouldn't say "Christopher Columbus crossed Atlantic Ocean", you would say "Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean." Vanleos (talk) 16:48, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:THE and long-standing consistency with titles for similar topics, e.g. Pacific Ocean. Mdewman6 (talk) 19:15, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Strongly oppose per WP:THE, not commonly capitalised as part of the proper noun itself, and not consistent with the other oceans. Are we also to have The United States, The United Kingdom, and The Seine? No need for less WP:CONCISE name. DankJae 21:30, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per above (mainly WP:THE) ☩ (Babysharkboss2) 23:37, 15 May 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:THE and comments above. The nom's example actually illustrates that the is not considered part of the name, hence it is not capitalized in
"Christopher Columbus crossed the Atlantic Ocean."
