Hi, Obi2canibe, I wanted to discuss your use of WP:PRODs and notability. That page notes "PROD must only be used if no opposition to the deletion is expected"; a PROD of new well-referenced, well-formatted article is almost certainly going to be disputed at least by the creator, so PROD isn't appropriate. You also didn't consider alternatives to deletion - for a local political party, that might be a merge or redirect to a person or place connected to the party. One Leicester Party and Peterborough First were both redirects before an article was created; deletion would have left readers with less information than before the articles were created.

You cited WP:NONPROFIT as though it rules out local organisations, but that reading is wrong: it says organisations are usually notable if they are nationwide and have sigcov, but not that local organisations can't be notable. WP:AUD advises that national or international coverage helps establish notability of local organisations.

Meeting the WP:GNG overrides subject-specific notability guidelines, providing WP:NOT is also respected. To quote WP:NORG, "Organizations are considered notable if they meet one of the following sourcing requirements: 1. these alternate criteria, 2. the primary criteria for organizations, or 3. the general notability guideline and the article complies with the policy Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, especially with regards to avoiding indiscriminate inclusion of information." Two major exceptions to GNG purely being enough are WP:BLP1E and WP:NEVENT, where the policies WP:BLP and WP:NOTNEWS respectively create a need for more stringency. I chose the PROD route because I did not expect any opposition. WP:NONPROFIT is very clear that organisations must has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources that are independent of the organization (as WP:GNG) and that their scope of activities is of a national/international in scale. That clearly wasn't the case with these local parties. If I had expected opposition I would have taken them straight to AfD, like I did with 2026 Masterton District Council by-election.

Whilst WP:GNG presumes that a subject is notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, it does not guarantee it. WP:ORGCRITE also says notability is presumed, nothing about guaranteed. In this instance we have a specific notability guideline, WP:NONPROFIT, which states that meeting the threshold set by WP:GNG is not enough to be notable. The organisation's scope must be national/international.

Hello Obi2canibe,

I noticed you reverted my edit to List of newspapers in Sri Lanka and asked for an independent source. Though the source provided is an interview, it is published by an authority on the subject. The newspaper has also been quoted by the International Crisis Group (report link). In addition, The Examiner web portal itself shows evidence of weekly publication (examiner.media).

I was posting CSD C1 notices here when I was tagging these empty categories for speedy deletion. But it was just overwhelming your User talk page so I rolled back all of my edits. But you can still see which categories have been tagged by looking through the page history. Most of the empty categories were about historical periods in Ceylon but you can see for yourself.
