Thanks

Hi Diego, I liked your wikify, with no experience in web-desings but some bloggers and neither in computers I may have tried to reach to high. It has been a good "patada", so I am going to step one and start looking the data from your remarks, sneeking some more "pinillos" in the same subject. Looking forward to your next kick. Regards.--Lumentzaspi (talk) 12:36, 8 October 2008 (UTC)^

Hi pal, Spanish is my second language, It would have been worst, if like I told you, not just Polish-Basque but if I would have mixed-up Portuguese&Basque+English&French+Italian&Spanish, which is not just a bit of Span-English, to destroy Wikipedia´s politics. You told me where you are, were, have been, do, did & have done. I must confess I have register my same name in other wikis, but with none much contribution. Is that wrong?. You were very kind yerterday helping me, but my background in computers is none, like one of those old mechanics with no theory but few cars pulled apart. Thank you for everything, good-luck & hope we meet again someday. Yours.Lumentzaspi.

  • Gute nacht der freunf,

I can understand that so many open an account and never get anywhere, because I have been like scarmbling my shopping list and still have the trolley empty. You guys must have a good time (and patience or vocation) w/ us the beginers. But do not loose hope, one day it will pup up. This time. Just to say ¡Hi & thank you! Lumentzaspi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lumentzaspi (talkcontribs) 21:05, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

  • I´ll have in mind your advise to place in all my open but not finished pages, that I´am "on construction".I may be a roadrunner but takes time to pick up those details. Thanks & regards . Lumentzaspi. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lumentzaspi (talkcontribs) 14:39, 21 October 2008 (UTC)

Page creation

I saw your comments here regarding the creation of pages by IP and non-confirmed users.

Are you familiar with Wikipedia:Article wizard? In addition to being a helpful start for new editors, it creates the desired draft as a user subpage. I think this is a wonderful approach, and would like to see it publicized more.

Once the user has completed their draft to their satisfaction, if they are auto-confirmed by then, they can move it themselves, or they can ask that it be moved, and another pair of eyes can check to make sure it is a net addition to the encyclopedia.

It occurs to be that if one more strongly encouraged the creation of new articles in user subpages, (except, of course, for established editors), one could be more relaxed about allowing brand-new editors, even IPs, to create new pages. The user subpages are no-indexed by rule, so an IP creating a shock page or a blatant advertisement isn't going to achieve their goal. If the page turns out to be decent, it can easily be moved to article space.--SPhilbrickT 14:12, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the comment - best of luck.--SPhilbrickT 14:57, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

iw for templates

Hallo, when you are putting interwikis on the templates (as you did here), then do it on the documentation subpage instead. This way the software does not have to recalculate all the pages which is using the template. I think the same is true for eswiki: es:Plantilla:Fecha categoría artículo. --Christian75 (talk) 12:04, 24 May 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Christianity Newsletter April 2013

ICHTHUS

April 2013

Membership report
The parent Christianity WikiProject currently has 357 active members. We would like to welcome our newest members, Thomas Cranmer, Mr.Oglesby, and Sneha Priscilla. Thank you all for your interest in this effort. We would be able to achieve nothing here without the input of all of you. If any members, new or not, wish any assistance, they should feel free to leave a message at the Christianity noticeboard or with me or other individual editors to request it.

From the Editor

We apologise for the hiatus in the publication of this newsletter due to unforseen circumstances leading to the wikibreak of John Carter, and so I have taken over as acting editor, and have taken this opportunity to move the publication date to the start of each month as planned, to better reflect on the previous month and look ahead to the next. This issue covers the period of time from mid-January to the end of March.

Since the last issue we have seen the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI and the election of Pope Francis. This has received much coverage both in the world media and on Wikipedia. While there is still much work to do, several quality articles have been written and the editors involved are thanked for their efforts.

This month we look ahead to Easter and the celebration of God's love for mankind through the crucifixion and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ. With that, I wish you all happy reading!

P.S. Please click here to add the new Christianity noticeboard to your watchlist to follow the latest discussions relevant to WikiProject Christianity and subprojects.

Church of the month

This image of the Church of Saint Ildefonso, Portugal by Poco a poco was recently promoted to Featured Image. Thank you and congratulations for the great image!

Contest of the month
No particular contest this month. I am however getting rather close to getting together a more or less complete set of articles relating to different areas of Christianity which can be found in recent reference sources on the broad topic of Christianity, and about various subtopics, which I hope to have finished in the next few weeks. I wonder what the rest of you might think of, maybe, making the contests of future months be basically directed at filling in the gaps of our existing coverage of topics, like those topics given significant coverage in specialized reference works which we don't yet have content on, and giving the thanks, and rewards, whatever they might be, to those who create and develop such content. I am starting a discussion at Wikipedia talk:Christianity noticeboard#Future contests, and would very much welcome any input from interested parties in how to set it up, determine winners including how many winners, etc.

Featured content and GA report
Since the last report;

Martin Luther King, Jr., by Khazar2, was promoted to GA status, as well Third Epistle of John by Cerebellum.

Also these past months, the DYKs on the main page included St Mary's Church, Cleobury Mortimer by Peter I. Our profoundest thanks and congratulations to all those involved!

Christian art

Complete recording

Jesus nahm zu sich die Zwölfe, BWV 22, a cantata by the German composer J.S. Bach, was promoted to GA this month and was written by Gerda Arendt. Many thanks for her continuing work in the area of early 18th Century Church music.

Spotlight

The Spotlight this month turns to the the Jesus work group. The scope of this project includes the life and teachings of the central figure of Christianity, Jesus Christ and aims to write about them in a non-denominational encylopædic style. Top-priority articles include Jesus, Christ, Resurrection of Jesus, and Holy Grail, whereas High-priority articles include Aramaic Language, a former FA, as well as Sermon on the Mount, Lamb of God, and Passion (Christianity). The workgroup has also published two books, covering Christ's final days and the Parables of Jesus. The workgroup has two GAs, Nativity scene, and Jesus in Islam, but unfortunately the flagship article, Jesus was delisted in 2009. It is also responsible for three WP:1.0 articles, and the WikiWork of the project is 4.56, which indicates the "average" article is between Start and C class.

Calendar

  • (talk page stalker) - Several editors, Nasgualdesign for instance, don't !vote to support their own nominations or edits out of principal. It's a bit more common on Commons from what I've seen.  Crisco 1492 (talk) 17:00, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
Actually, in Commons I do support my nomination (I am though considering not to do it anymore), but here I am not sure whether people would agree on that practice and furthermore I am not so familiar with the criteria in en.wp to supportor oppose images. I have seen that the EV plays a key role, and I understand that, which makes it a bit different to Commons (and maybe that's why I prefer that project). That's why I just limited to express my opinion in the nomination. Still, I really appreciate what you did. Poco2 18:31, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Featured picture candidates/Petrillo Music Shell and Chicago Skyline

Hey there! I found what I think is a good secondary usage for this image. See what you think? Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:29, 2 February 2014 (UTC)

Hi Adam, I agree with you. I was wondering why is that so essential for a nomination to FP? If there are 2 articles where the picture is adequate then the nomination confirms its EV? interesting. Poco2 18:35, 2 February 2014 (UTC)
There's a requirement that an image adds significantly to articles. It's mainly meant to give English Wikipedia's FPC process a unique purpose compared to Commons' FPC, but it has the secondary purpose that, if an image is adding to an article significantly, it's likely to stay in the article long-term.
I can kind of see why they objected to the Petrillo Music Shell usage. while it puts it in context in a lovely way, you can't see the seating (if it's there: I suspect the seating comes and goes), and the noone had argued the case for why putting it in context adds value, which is one of those subtle added value things that people sometimes need pointed out: Knowing that, say, when going to a concert there you have a really good view of Chicago as a backdrop is information that isn't present in any other image. Hello Yakikaki and Armbrust, I want to thank you both for nominating the picture and letting me know about the outcome. I have read the discussion and I agree that the file side is too small. That isn't a problem as itself but the reason is that I applied too much denoising and therefore the difference between pixels was reduced, the result is a smaller JPEG. I will upload a new and improved version, if you don't mind. Btw, that's the second FP of that monument, the first one (in Commons) was this one. Best regards, Poco2 19:48, 3 November 2014 (UTC)
To be honest, my believe was not right, the denoising was moderate. Still, I have improved the picture in terms of curves, contrast, sharpness, tilt, perspective and chroma denoising, and will upload a new version Poco2 20:23, 3 November 2014 (UTC)

Basilica of St Paul, Rabat

The Basilica of St Paul is a Catholic parish church in Rabat, Malta, located on the edge of the site of the Roman city of Melite. The present church was built between 1653 and 1658, replacing a church that was completed in 1578. It was constructed with funds from the noblewoman Cosmana Navarra, on plans prepared by Francesco Buonamici. The final stages were completed by Lorenzo Gafà. It was elevated to the status of a minor basilica in 2020. The church features a grotto where, according to tradition, Paul the Apostle lived and preached during his three-month stay in Malta in AD 60. This photograph shows the facade of the Basilica of St Paul in 2021.

Emperor angelfish

The emperor angelfish (Pomacanthus imperator) is a species in the marine angelfish family, Pomacanthidae. It is a reef-associated fish, native to the Indian and Pacific Oceans, from the Red Sea to Hawaii and the Austral Islands. Adults are found in areas where there is a rich growth of corals on clear lagoon, channel, or seaward reefs, at depths between 1 and 100 metres (3 and 330 feet) The emperor angelfish shows a marked difference between the juveniles and the adults. The juveniles have a dark blue body which is marked with concentric curving lines, alternating between pale blue and white, while adults are striped with blue and yellow horizontal stripes, a light blue face with a dark blue mask over the eyes and a yellow caudal fin. It can attain a maximum total length of around 40 centimetres (16 inches). This adult emperor angelfish was photographed in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt.

Sarcophyton glaucum

Sarcophyton glaucum, also known as toadstool leather coral or rough leather coral, is a species of soft coral in the family Alcyoniidae, found from the Red Sea to the western Pacific Ocean. Like other members of Alcyoniidae, it does not have a hard exoskeleton. They are sedentary and taxonomically identified by calcareous sclerites on their exoskeletons, and feature polyps with eight tentacles. Sarcophyton corals build monospecific colonies, typically found in a range of intertidal, subtidal, and near-shore reef flat habitats. Individual S. glaucum corals grow up to 80 centimetres (31 in), usually on reef flats, in lagoons, or on seaward slopes. This S. glaucum coral formation was photographed in the Red Sea off the coast of Ras Katy, near Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Pardachirus marmoratus

Pardachirus marmoratus is a species of flatfish in the true sole family Soleidae, native to the western Indian Ocean from the Red Sea to Sri Lanka and along the east coast of Africa to Durban. It is found in shallow, coastal waters where the seabed consists of sand or mud, often near coral reefs, and feeds mainly on benthic invertebrates. The body is highly compressed, convex on the eyed side and flat on the blind side. Its colour is frequently whitish, pale brown to pale grey with a scattering of irregular dark brown ring shape markings and many dark brown spots on the head, body, and fins. Pardachirus marmoratus's colour provides camouflage when it rests on sandy or pebbled seafloors. This camouflaged P. marmoratus individual was photographed in the Indian Ocean near Zanzibar.

Thelenota ananas

Thelenota ananas, also known as pineapple sea cucumber, among other names, is a sea cucumber in the family Stichopodidae. It is found in tropical Indo-Pacific waters, on the sandy bottom of lagoons and in slabs near coral, from the Red Sea and East Africa to Hawaii, Polynesia, the Maldives and Australia. The species is characterized by its large size – reaching up to 70 centimetres (28 inches) in length, with a mass of 3 to 6 kilograms (7 to 13 pounds) – and has pointed, star-shaped teats covering the entire body. The body is reddish-orange in color. It plays an important role in coral reef ecosystems, for example by recycling nutrients, and is often eaten as food. This T. ananas sea cucumber was photographed in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt.

Parazoanthus axinellae

Parazoanthus axinellae, commonly known as the yellow cluster anemone, is a species of zoanthid coral in the family Parazoanthidae. It is found on rocky substrates around the southern Atlantic coasts of Europe and in the Mediterranean Sea, at depths between 23 and 45 metres (75 and 148 ft). Zoanthids differ from true sea anemones in having a different internal anatomy and in forming true colonies in which the individual animals (polyps) are connected by a common tissue, called the coenenchyme. Parazoanthus axinellae is yellow or orange in colour, each polyp featuring 24 to 36 tentacles and having a diameter of 5 millimetres (0.20 in) with a height of 20 millimetres (0.79 in). In the Mediterranean Sea, it frequently forms dense agglomerations, often in association with the soft coral Alcyonium acaule. This P. axinellae cluster was photographed in Arrábida Natural Park, Portugal.

Orange cup coral

Orange cup coral (Tubastraea coccinea) is a large-polyp stony coral in the family Dendrophylliidae. It is native to the Indo-Pacific region, but has also been introduced into the Atlantic, including the Caribbean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the West African region, and the Mediterranean Sea. The species is found in a variety of habitats including natural caves and rock faces as well as artificial surfaces such as granite, cement, steel and tile. The polyps of orange cup coral are red, and its tentacles are yellow-orange. The orange cup coral is heterotrophic and does not contain zooxanthellae in its tissues as many tropical corals do, allowing it to grow in complete darkness as long as it can capture enough food, feeding by using its transparent tentacles to capture zooplankton. It spreads using the ocean's currents and can reproduce both sexually and asexually. This orange cup coral was photographed in the Gulf of California off the coast of La Paz in Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Iberian lynx

The Iberian lynx (Lynx pardinus) is one of the four extant species of lynx, wild cats in the family Felidae. The Iberian lynx is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula, in which it was once widespread, but it is now restricted to a small number of regions in Spain and Portugal, and is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. Fossils suggest that the species has been present in Iberia since the end of the Early Pleistocene, around one million years ago. The Iberian lynx has a short bright yellowish to tawny coloured spotted fur. Its body is short with long legs and a short tail, and its head is small with tufted ears and a ruff (hairs under the neck). It preys foremost on the European rabbit for the bulk of its diet, supplemented by red-legged partridge, rodents, and to a smaller degree also on wild ungulates. The Iberian lynx marks its territory with its urine, scratch marks on the barks of trees, and scat. The home ranges of adults are stable over many years and both males and females reach sexual maturity at one year old, although they rarely start breeding until a territory becomes vacant. This wild female Iberian lynx was photographed in Almuradiel, in the province of Ciudad Real, Spain.

Chromodoris annae

Chromodoris annae is a species of sea slug in the family Chromodorididae. It is found in the tropical central area of the Indo-Pacific region from Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines to the Marshall Islands, a region rich in biodiversity and rich in coral, mangroves and seagrasses. C. annae has an elongated body, reaching a maximum length of 5 centimetres (2.0 in), and is coloured in various shades of blue with black spots, its mantle edge and foot being bordered with white and orange-to-yellow lines. The sea slug's diet consists solely of Petrosaspongia, part of the Thorectidae family of sea sponges. It absorbs a noxious chemical from the sponge, storing it in its glands and using it to deter predation. C. annae is generally a docile species, but individuals have been occasionally sighted fighting each other. This C. annae sea slug was photographed in the diving resort of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas, in the Philippines.

Narbonne Cathedral

Narbonne Cathedral is a Catholic church located in the town of Narbonne, France. Dedicated to Saints Justus and Pastor, it was the cathedral of the Diocese of Narbonne until it was merged with the Diocese of Carcassonne under the Concordat of 1801. It is now a co-cathedral of the Diocese of Carcassonne–Narbonne, and was declared a minor basilica in 1886. The first church on the site was a small Constantinian structure that was erected in 313 and destroyed by fire in 441. A replacement building, erected in 445, fell into ruin and was eventually replaced in 890 by a Carolingian cathedral whose restored steeple remains on the site. Construction on the present Gothic building began in 1272, opening in 1286. It was gradually expanded until 1354, but its size was then limited by the location of the city walls and the rest of the building was never completed, the nave and transept being notably absent. This photograph shows the choir of Narbonne cathedral, looking towards the high altar in the background.

Sabellastarte spectabilis

Sabellastarte spectabilis, commonly known as the feather duster worm or the fan worm, is a species of benthic marine polychaete worm in the family Sabellidae. It is native to tropical waters of the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea but has spread to other parts of the world. It is a filter feeder and inhabits holes and cracks in reefs, rocky shores, coral and lava, under boulders in still water, and in tidal pools and channels exposed to heavy surf. S. spectabilis is buff in colour with purple specks, around 8 centimetres (3 inches) in length and up to 1.2 centimetres (0.5 inches) in width. It lives in a tough, leathery tube covered with fine mud, from which projects a branchial crown of branched tentacles. The worm is popular in aquariums because of its distinctive appearance and its ability to remove organic particles and improve water quality. This S. spectabilis worm was photographed in the diving resort of Anilao in Mabini, Batangas, in the Philippines.

Orbicular batfish

The orbicular batfish (Platax orbicularis) is a species of marine ray-finned fish belonging to the family Ephippidae, the spadefishes and batfishes. It is native to the Indo-Pacific region, ranging from eastern Africa (including South Africa and Madagascar) eastwards to southern Japan and Australia, and in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf. The species has also been recorded outside its native range in the western Atlantic Ocean. It inhabits shallow, protected coastal waters, including mangroves, coral reefs, and deeper areas with silty substrates. Juveniles typically shelter among mangrove roots and in protected lagoons. The orbicular batfish has a deep, highly compressed, round body, and adults can grow to more than 40 centimetres (16 in) in length. Larger individuals develop a slightly indented snout and a bony intraorbital protuberance. Adults are silvery grey in colour, with black vertical bars running through the eye and across the base of the pectoral fin. The dorsal and anal fins are yellowish with black margins. This orbicular batfish was photographed in the Red Sea off the coast of Egypt.

Westminster Cathedral

Westminster Cathedral, officially the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Precious Blood, is a Catholic church at Westminster, London, England. It is the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster. Designed by John Francis Bentley in a Christian neo-Byzantine style influenced by ninth-century architecture, it is constructed almost entirely of brick, without steel reinforcements. The site on which the cathedral stands was purchased by the Archdiocese of Westminster in 1885 with construction taking place from 1895 to 1903. The cathedral has been visited by Pope John Paul II in 1982, by Queen Elizabeth II in 1995 – the first reigning monarch to attend a Catholic service since the Reformation – and by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010. This picture shows Westminster Cathedral's chapel of the Blessed Sacrament.

Arc-eye hawkfish

The arc-eye hawkfish (Paracirrhites arcatus) is a species of ray-finned fish in the family Cirrhitidae, the hawkfishes. It is found across the tropical Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to the central Pacific (including the Hawaiian and Pitcairn Islands), and from Japan south to Australia. The arc-eye hawkfish inhabits lagoons and seaward coral reefs, often resting motionless among coral heads at depths of 1 to 30 metres (3 to 100 ft). With a length of up to 20 centimetres (8 in), it has variable colouration, typically pale pinkish-brown. The species feeds on crustaceans and small fishes, is usually solitary, and spawns in pairs. It is also collected for the aquarium trade. This arc-eye hawkfish was photographed off the coast of Zanzibar in Tanzania.
