Mohamed Hadid

Which parameter should I use instead (of nationality)? MOS:INFONAT doesn't suggest any. If we remove "nationality" without any option, that seems quite unfair? Huldra (talk) 22:14, 1 March 2025 (UTC)

@Huldra: Well, not sure what you were trying to say in that comment, but doesn't MOS:INFONAT state, "A |citizenship= field can be used ..."? Thedarkknightli (talk) 04:07, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
No, as you can see in Mohamed Hadid, his citizenship= United States, Jordan. There is no field stating his ethnicity/nationality, and what he self-defines as, namely Palestinian, after you removed it. Please suggest a solution to that problem, thanks, Huldra (talk) 20:18, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
How about changing the lead sentence to "... American real estate developer of Palestinian origin"? Thedarkknightli (talk) 21:04, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
Why can't we have that in the info-box? Some would argue that is more important that what country gives you a passport, after all, Huldra (talk) 22:10, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
Well, besides MOS:INFONAT, we have MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, which states, "... an article should remain complete with its infobox ignored. The less information that an infobox contains, the more effectively it serves its purpose, allowing readers to identify key facts at a glance." Thedarkknightli (talk) 22:31, 2 March 2025 (UTC)
And you just removed a major point about him from the info-box. I'm undoing. If you want to remove it, please start a RfC, Huldra (talk) 23:21, 2 March 2025 (UTC)

Infobox person

I saw this discussion you referenced and I think it makes sense to include the republic (the infobox documentation does not discourage including subdivisions; it mentions this standard format: city, administrative region, country).

This discussion seems to be focused more on the USSR and Yugoslavia etc., but I did see you also mentioned the Russian Empire. I am not sure about this, though, at least for places that were always part of Russia (say Moscow and St. Petersburg).

For example, I do not think we would generally need to write "French Fourth Republic" or "Kingdom of France" etc. (maybe there will be some exceptions but that will depend on discussion). Algeria was considered to be part of Metropolitan France, at least administratively, but of course we would be fine if we just wrote "France" for places that are still part of France. Thoughts? Mellk (talk) 11:34, 13 June 2025 (UTC)

Hi @Mellk, thanks for noting that! I personally find disambiguation necessary in Russian Empire's case. The empire was much bigger than present-day Russia. I mean, it included a lot of present-day countries. Thedarkknightli (talk) 12:48, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
I think it would make sense to write "Russian Empire" for places not located within present-day Russia, but I am not sure if it is necessary for places like Moscow. Mellk (talk) 12:50, 14 June 2025 (UTC)
No, it isn't unless for consistency within an infobox. Thedarkknightli (talk) 13:31, 14 June 2025 (UTC)

Greta Garbo

I agree that "Swedish citizenship from 1905" (repeating the birth year) was not proper format; I have reworded the infobox accordingly. However, you are quite wrong about the rules of Swedish citizenship. While some countries do indeed forbid dual citizenship, Sweden is not one of them. Garbo never renounced her Swedish citizenship, and that citizenship did not cease when she became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1951. It is erroneous to state, or even infer, that it ceased when it didn't. Mason.Jones (talk) 20:04, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

Well @Mason.Jones, do you have a source for that? Per the article Swedish nationality law, it was impossible for Swedish citizens to hold dual citizenship before 2001 unless they automatically acquired the other citizenship at birth. Also, I changed the descriptor to "Swedish and American" in this edit not because Garbo held dual citizenship, but because she had a career that spanned her emigration (see MOS:NATIONALITY). Thedarkknightli (talk) 01:41, 19 August 2025 (UTC)
Yes, I've googled many sources about this. If they mention Garbo's citizenship at all, they confirm that she did have to relinquish her Swedish citizenship in 1951. Although it was restored with Sweden's new 2001 law (which was retroactive), that certainly doesn't cover all the decades when she was not a Swedish citizen. Your edit seems to be the most logical resolution. Mason.Jones (talk) 15:52, 19 August 2025 (UTC)

You just changed designation of GG from Swedish American actress to Swedish and American Actress.... I've been following this page for over a decade since I wrote most of the current version back then, and I want to let you know that editors have been changing her national designation around for 10 years. Inevitably, it gets changed. "Swedish American" has lasted the longest. I don't care, but you should know it will eventually get changed, so beware.Classicfilmbuff (talk) 21:20, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

Hany Abu-Assad article

This thread was split off from #Mohamed Hadid above by Thedarkknightli (talk) 06:44, 25 December 2025 (UTC)

Hi there, you made some edit to Hany Abu-Assad that are problematic because they protect unsourced anon edits not based in the sources cited & which conflict with his self-identification. I have opened a talk page section there to rectify this. Please participate to explain your edits if you seek to preserve them. Tiamut (talk) 06:39, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Its just you & me on the talk page & no one is responding to the blp noticeboard request. If you had not objected, I would just be bold & change the infobox bc it is clearly out of line with several policies, including wp:blp. It currently implies Hany is an Israeli-Dutch filmmaker when that is not true & not what he is notable for. Can you please explain in the talk why you are okay with this misrepresentation? Based on what policies exactly? Or else withdraw your objection to the change. Thanks Tiamut (talk) 09:05, 28 November 2025 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Huashan Grassland murder (December 3)

Your recent article submission to Articles for Creation has been reviewed. Unfortunately, it has not been accepted at this time. The reason left by Monkeysmashingkeyboards was:
Notability is there, but the article is a mess formatting-wise. Splitting into sections and removing some citations(WP:CITEKILL) would be a start, and a {{Infobox event}} would be good, too.
Please check the submission for any additional comments left by the reviewer. You are encouraged to edit the submission to address the issues raised and resubmit after they have been resolved.

ANI suggestion

I'm a bit hesitant to weigh in at ANI due to past drama, but if you leave diffs to each of Croyston's previous ANI's, the time where they said they'd communicate and all the warnings since then, people will find it veryhard to ignore your post...

Literally lay out the history in diffs - perhaps do a timeline? Like: ANI1, ANI2, block, reply, ANI3, block...

Show a clear pattern of behaviour that's hard to ignore.

I'm happy to vote on sanctions if needed, but an admin was concerned that I was clerking on ANI so I've avoided doing too much on that noticeboard (otherwise I'd write it myself!). Blue Sonnet (talk) 08:36, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

Minnie Driver Infobox Citizenships

Hey, sorry to bother you. I noticed you reverted my edit on the Minnie Driver article on her citizenships. I just want to clarify why I made that edit, it was to make it consistent with other articles about people with more than one citizenship, as they typically list the full names of the countries that person had citizenship in, not just the abbreviations; one example being Mark Carney's page, where on his infobox it lists him as having had Canadian, Irish and United Kingdom citizenship, as opposed to Canadian, Irish and UK citizenship. Obviously what you did was a good faith edit and I just want to underscore that I'm not mad about this at all, I just wanted you to know. Have a good new year! EngineerGaming9999 (talk) 00:41, 29 December 2025 (UTC)

@EngineerGaming9999: First off, let's ignore irrelevant other stuff. Second, we have MOS:VAR (which states, "Edit warring over style, or enforcing optional style in a bot-like fashion without prior consensus, is disruptive and is never acceptable.") and, like I said, MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE (which states, "... information should be presented in a short format wherever possible ..."). Third, writing |citizenship={{ubl|United Kingdom|United States (from 2017)}} instead of |citizenship={{ubl|UK|US (from 2017)}} doubles the parameter's length. Fourth, there's a consensus to write "US" or "U.S." instead of "United States" in |birth_place= and |death_place=, so I really don't see why we can't do the same to |citizenship=. Thedarkknightli (talk) 09:42, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
I just want to reassure that I am absolutely not trying to edit war, but I am glad that's how you immediately seem to view my intentions as being. I would also like to point out that my precedent seems to be more relevant to the "citizenship" part of a person's infobox than yours, and that you calling it "irrelevant" without explaining why seems to be rather reductive. Either way, though, I do recognize that this is an entirely frivolous debate and even though I still believe it would make more sense to display the full names of the countries, I'm not going to revert it anymore as, like I said, I do not want an edit war, especially not over something as trivial as this. Have a good day and a happy new year! EngineerGaming9999 (talk) 19:25, 29 December 2025 (UTC)
OK @EngineerGaming9999, I've just restored my edit.
and that you calling it "irrelevant" without explaining why seems to be rather reductive Well, while consistency within the same article is almost always necessary per WP:MOS, consistency between different articles usually isn't cuz they possibly have different consensus on the same issue. Thedarkknightli (talk) 04:18, 30 December 2025 (UTC)
That's fair. Thank you for explaining. Sorry about the passive-aggressiveness from earlier. EngineerGaming9999 (talk) 06:27, 3 January 2026 (UTC)

About the RfC

Regarding the Mannerheim RfC, a few comments: The RfC should be its own section, with ==Title== instead of three ='s. The title should also be more descriptive than just RfC. There should probably be more options with three items, with either the manor or the municipality removed. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 17:02, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

WP:DRN

Wikipedia is not a battleground for dispute resolution noticeboard about people in lede and infoboxes, as well as contentious topics. Please understand the following not to disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. Absolutiva 05:44, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

@Absolutiva, could you please be specific? Thanks, Thedarkknightli (talk) 06:01, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Since recently you started DRN for Volodymyr Zelenskyy, which is considered contentious topic (also WP:RUSUKR). Other articles designated as contentious topic include Mohamed Hadid, under that you previously started an DRN.
For now, please refrain the use of DRN from any contentious topic area, or you will be subjected a topic ban. Absolutiva 06:14, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Well @Absolutiva, I still don't get what you're talking about. TBH, I don't see how I've (recently) violated WP:BATTLEGROUND or WP:POINTY, or an explicit restriction on how many contentious topic-related DRN cases I can file. Thedarkknightli (talk) 04:17, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
