Rollback granted

Hi VidanaliK. After reviewing your request, I have enabled rollback on your account. Please keep the following things in mind while using rollback:
- Being granted rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle or Ultraviolet. It just adds a [rollback] button next to a page's latest live revision. It does not grant you any additional "status" on Wikipedia, nor does it change how Wikipedia policies apply to you.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear and unambiguous cases of vandalism only. Never use rollback to revert good faith edits. For more information about when rollback is appropriate, see Wikipedia:Rollback § When to use rollback.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war, and it should never be used in a content-related dispute to restore the page to your preferred revision. If rollback is abused or used for this purpose or any other inappropriate purpose, the permission will be revoked.
- Use common sense. If you're not sure about something, ask!
I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, and feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into trouble or have any questions about appropriate use of rollback. If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin) and Wikipedia:Rollback. Good luck and thanks! * Pppery * it has begun... 15:28, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
Question from Cannolian (18:17, 29 March 2026)
Hello VidanaliK! I'm sorry if the previous message got cut off. I was wondering what you recommend for finding sources on things, especially for smaller subjects like a niche philospher. Thank you! --Cannolian (talk) 18:17, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- Hello @Cannolian! There are a few ways I would reccomend:
- 1. Use Google. Google, not DuckDuckGo, not Ecosia (those don't let you filter your results as easily). Put the entire name of the philosopher in quotes (" "). Then add at the end some results that you don't want to include, with a minus sign before them. For example, -reddit -instagram -facebook will have you not include results from those sites, and -ai will remove AI-generated results. Don't go crazy on that, only do that on the unreliable sites that you get way too much on the first pass. Then, if you find some sources you'd like to use, first look for the source on WP:RSP to see if it's reliable. If it's not, search for its Wikipedia article to see if it meets the criteria for being a reliable source (i.e. an editing team, a reputation for fact-checking and neutrality, etc.); or you can see if it's used as a source in other Wikipedia articles. If either of those lead you to the conclusion that it's a reliable source, congrats! You have a new source.
- 2. A much simpler solution is to use Google Scholar, which gives you scholarly sources. That way you don't have to go to town on the -reddit -instagram -facebook -tiktok -ai etc. stuff.
- 3. If either of those lead you to a book you don't have access to, there are a few ways you can get it: one is ordering it from Amazon, but this costs money; the other two options that are free include getting it from your local library; many libraries have a system where you can order it from a different library system; it usually takes weeks to months, so your third and probably best option is to request it from someone at the Resource Request system. (You could also try searching the Wikipedia Library, but since you're a newer editor you have to wait on that until you become extended confirmed)
- Happy editing! VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 22:25, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- I appreciate the help and will definitely use this. I do have access to Penn State libraries which also grants me access to other college libraries. Though correct me if I’m wrong but I can’t use an article that’s completely locked behind academia as that’s private correct? I wish to make sure! Cannolian (talk) 23:28, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Cannolian What do you mean "locked behind academia?" VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 23:32, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- Sorry, I know there’s a rule on public sources so I was wondering if those would count as a non-public source since non-college and non-alumini can’t access without paying a fee. Cannolian (talk) 23:46, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Cannolian I think paying a fee still counts as public; the New York Times requires a subscription for several articles but is one of Wikipedia's most critical and used sources. And don't get me started on all the journal articles. I think private would be like private military records that can't be accessed by anyone else, period. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 23:48, 30 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification. I promise not to leak classified files…Maybe Cannolian (talk) 23:49, 30 March 2026 (UTC)

Question from SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (20:33, 10 April 2026)
Hello! I'm somewhat new to Wikipedia and have just started editing, so I don't know very much yet. I'm guessing this is a stupid question with an easy solution, but it said that you're my assigned mentor and to ask you questions about editing, so I'm sorry if I'm wasting your time. when you search for Ranboo (a streamer), it redirects to Tommyinnit (also a streamer, but not Ranboo) I have written the problem on the Tommyinnit talk page, but there's been no response, so I'm asking how to do it myself. Thanks! SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 20:33, 10 April 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow OK, I see the problem here. Go to this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Ranboo&redirect=no so that it will take you to the actual page "Ranboo" without redirecting you to Tommyinit. Now, in your own sandbox, write a Wikipedia page about Ranboo; start with just a stub, so like basic information, and make sure to cite at least 3-4 reliable sources. Then, you can copy and paste your sandbox Ranboo article into the source editor for the Ranboo page after deleting all the content there (which just consists of a redirect). If people revert your edit, that's when you can discuss or ask why. Happy editing! VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 15:09, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 17:54, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Also, how do I add a photo to a page? I'm confused on how you are supposed to upload it from your device. (p.s. thanks for all the help) SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 18:10, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow If the image is free (i.e. either you made it, or it is available online under a Creative Commons license), you can upload it to Wikimedia Commons using the Upload Wizard. If not, you can upload it straight to Wikipedia under a fair use rationale: see the non-free image use policy, using the tab "Upload File" from the Main Page on the bottom left.
- From there, you can use a simple bluelink linking to the file page (which will start with "File:") if you are adding it to a page, then add
|thumb|yourcaptionin the middle, replacing yourcaption with a caption; so in total, [[File:Example.png|thumb|yourcaption]] produces the following:
yourcaption - If you are adding it to an infobox, just do the name of the file in the image field, so just
Example.png. Happy editing! VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 18:27, 13 April 2026 (UTC)- Thanks! SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 18:50, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Of course! VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 18:50, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- I'm really sorry to keep bothering you, but do you have any tips on creating the page itself? I've uploaded a small amount of info on Ranboo, but by small I mean 5 or 6 sentences, and I am not sure what all information SHOULD be added, and what SHOULDNT(due to copyrights, or irrelevancy). thanks again so, so much. SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 19:28, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 19:28, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow It looks like someone reverted your edit due to being uncited. Under that, you didn't use a template like Template:Cite web or such, you just cited "Wikituba", "Youtube" and "Twitch", neither of which are reliable sources, and you didn't cite the exact sources. See WP:RS and WP:CITE for more info. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 19:45, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- yea I see what you are saying. my web explorer is restricted to a few websites, so I'm not able to correctly cite sources. I'm actually speaking with the fellow who originally reverted my edit, so while I may be a little sore from a classic ego blow, no real harm done! SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 19:53, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow Which websites can you access? Some of them might still be useful if you can access the URL. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 20:01, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- back! So what I have access to is just what you get to see when you finish a search on Bing, but you don't open any websites. So is there a way to edit/create a page without providing citation possibly? due to the strictness of Wikipedia, I doubt it, but it's worth asking.SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow (talk) 20:29, 15 April 2026 (UTC)
- @SomeRandomPersonUDontKnow Unfortunately, all pages do require direct citations to prove notability and to verify statements. But there is a bunch of other work you can do here, like copyediting (that's the only one I can think of right now, but the folks over at the Teahouse could help you a little more). Question from Bluecow46 (18:21, 1 May 2026)
Hello. How do I add a photo to my article without violating any rules? The photo I would like to add is one of the Buffalo Soldiers in Hawaii. Thank you --Bluecow46 (talk) 18:21, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Bluecow46 Is your photo protected by copyright or is it public domain? How long ago whas the photo taken? And can you find the photo on Wikimedia Commons? VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 18:26, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- I was able to find one on wikipedia commons that is "public domain". That means I can use that correct? also, how do I cite that when I add it? Bluecow46 (talk) 18:35, 1 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Bluecow46 Anything on Wikimedia Commons can be used, even if it's not public domain. There's a difference between public domain and free use; public domain means it's so old that the law of the country it was created in no longer allows that work to be under copyright. Some people can also release their work under a Creative Commons license so that people can use it for certain purposes without needing to ask permission. Wikimedia Commons only allows files that are freely available. In short, if you find it on Wikimedia Commons, you can use it. Happy editing! AI update
Things are changing fast in the AI world. Perplexity has crippled its free tier down to 2 prompts per session. But duckduckgo now has an AI called duck.ai, which allows you to choose from 6 models in its free tier. The best of those is Anthropic's Claude Haiku 4.5, but it is not the default, so you have to select it. After you've done that, to get the best out of it, you click on "fast" and then click on "reasoning". duck.ai's "download chat" feature captures everything, including the model's chain-of-thought. One drawback is that Haiku sometimes decides not to search; you can prevent that problem by adopting the habit of starting your prompts with "Search for" or "Look up", or end the prompt with a search order.
But that's all old school, as a new paradigm of AIs has hit the mainstream...
Due to the Anthropic Claude Code agentic harness source code leak on March 31st, the whole world of AI has leaped forward. If you aren't very familiar with that, look up it and its impact. Haiku can help you research it. Make a timeline: it will blow you away. That source code represented billions of dollars in research and development, "gifted" to the world for free, allowing developers to create state-of-the-art AI apps that they never would have been able to afford to do. The impact has been and continues to be surreal. Now state-of-the-art agentic AI is available for installing on users' computers. Agentic AIs are AI apps that are not limited to just displaying stuff on your screen, and that don't stop after one prompt; you give it a project or continuous task, such as developing a software program, and it keeps working on it even after you go to bed. AI is in the agentic phase now. — The Transhumanist 10:12, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
- @The Transhumanist Personally I don't trust AI agents that do things without me monitoring them since there is still more room for growth and mishaps, but the leap in AI coding technology is definitely exciting; I still think that for now there should always be a human in the equation. Thanks for letting me know about Perplexity's downfall and the rise of duck.ai, I'll make sure to use that in future coding projects. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 15:43, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
Question from Distrigency (05:11, 4 May 2026)
Hello, finally i found someone active and reliable. My previous mentor barely speak to me. There is currently an article on draftspace moved by an editor for the language use. I have edited it but i would be glad to have you take a look at it and help improve it. I feel so bad to have affected another person's creation wrongly --Distrigency (talk) 05:11, 4 May 2026 (UTC)
Question from Jocob, Founder of Hushshzn (21:45, 5 May 2026)
Hello, is it an acceptable edit to just make wording clearer? --Jocob, Founder of Hushshzn (talk) 21:45, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
- @Jocob, Founder of Hushshzn Of course! Minor edits can still help Wikipedia. There's no threshold for how significant an edit must be as long as it doesn't actively make the article worse. VidanaliK (talk to me) (contributions) 22:30, 5 May 2026 (UTC)
