New pages patrol January–February 2026 Backlog drive

January–February 2026 Backlog Drive | New pages patrol

New Pages Patrol is hosting a one-time, two-month experimental backlog drive aimed at reducing the backlog. This will be a combo drive: both articles and redirects will earn points.

  • The drive will run from 1 January to 28 February 2026.
  • The drive is divided into two phases. Participants may take part in either phase or across both phases, depending on availability.
  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled during the drive.
  • Two-month drive-exclusive barnstars will be awarded to eligible participants.
  • Each article review earns 1 point, while each redirect review earns 0.2 points.
  • Streak awards will be granted based on consistently meeting weekly point thresholds.
  • Barnstars will also be awarded for re-reviewing articles previously reviewed by other patrollers during the drive.
  • Interested in participating? Sign up here.

Question from Quadsinker (18:23, 2 January 2026)

Howdy. My name is Chris Wooding & I’m an American singer/songwriter/musician. There is a British author with the same name & this is creating confusion more frequently as I upload my music to the streaming platforms. What would be my best strategy for getting myself a wiki page established? Thank you. --Quadsinker (talk) 18:23, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello @Quadsinker! There are a few things to consider before writing an article about yourself as you've indicated – please see Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing for more information. Now if you feel it makes sense to write an article about yourself, please see Help:Your_first_article. Most importantly, you need to make sure you're "notable" – several reliable, secondary sources have spoken/written about you (note that blogs, social media, your own websites etc don't count). You can then use the Article Wizard (link on the help page) to write your article and submit for a review. Hope this helps. WeWake (talk) 16:37, 5 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from ThatTrainGuy1945 (13:17, 15 January 2026)

Note: ThatTrainGuy1945's mentor CFA is away.

Hello WeWake, Do you think this page (Waqf Beneficiaries, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waqf_Beneficiaries) should be deleted? I wanted to ask you first before adding it to AfD. The page is a orphan, maybe AI generated, created by a user who pushed again and again for different Waqf pages before "disappearing". Thanks, --ThatTrainGuy1945 (talk) 13:17, 15 January 2026 (UTC)

Also, same info found on Waqf page. ThatTrainGuy1945 (talk) 13:18, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
Hi @ThatTrainGuy1945! It's hard to assess the page given references being in foreign language. However, based on how the content is presented, sourcing, the article does seem suspect. Even if notable, the article isn't ready for mainspace and requires significant rewriting. I'd probably consider moving it to draftspace as an alternative. However, AfD is not a bad option either. Hope this helps. WeWake (talk) 04:36, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
I also wanted to ask you about this page: Murder of Namrita Chandani. Is it truly notable, per WP:CRIME? No lasting coverage. ThatTrainGuy1945 (talk) 14:04, 15 January 2026 (UTC)
I agree with your assessment; appears to be a single event, most of coverage is around that single date/time. WeWake (talk) 04:40, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

Question from Motorik2000 (13:42, 19 January 2026)

Hello, thanks for your help and time! I'd like to create an article for my podcast Unexplained. I've created the page in the sandbox but I can't see a draft review button - how do I put the page forward for review? I also read that I should declare somewhere that I am creating a page for my own show for transparency, where do I write that? Thanks so much again. --Motorik2000 (talk) 13:42, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

Hello @Motorik2000! You can review Wikipedia:Articles for creation for information on how to submit your article for review! Cheers. WeWake (talk) 23:58, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
Brilliant, thanks - yes, I went ahead and did it through drafts. I thought you could do it in sandbox and then submit from there but not sure if that's not possible or just wasn't working for me... Motorik2000 (talk) 13:28, 20 January 2026 (UTC)

Women in Green reviewing drive

Hello WeWake:

This month, February 2026, WikiProject Women in Green is participating in the February 2026 GAN Backlog Drive, in which we're aiming to review as many outstanding Good Article (GA) nominations about women and women's works as possible. If you want to help out, you can check out the project talk page for a list of nominations in need of review (including some WiG originals). If you haven't reviewed a GA nomination before, be sure to check out the reviewing instructions and guidelines and feel free to ask for a mentor to check your work.

We are also working together with a wikithon hosted on 5 February by Wikimedia UK, which will focus on writing and improving articles about women involved in sustainable development. If you want to join the event, feel free to sign up at the eventbrite page; or if you would be interested in providing a 20-minute assessment and/or a full GA review of the submitted articles in the weeks following, put your name down on the project talk page for updates as the event progresses.

We hope to see you there!

Question from ArizonaBYUBuckeye (15:59, 3 February 2026)

I want to start adding information to topics that I know a great deal about, or that are missing. Do I just keep adding with citations? As an example, I am very familiar with Ted Roosevelt (son of President Roosevelt) expedition to Asia, and I noticed missing information. Do I just add it or do I wait until my first article is approved? --ArizonaBYUBuckeye (talk) 15:59, 3 February 2026 (UTC)

Your edits to articles are independent from your first article – however, if you're new, I suggest waiting for your first article to improve as you get important feedback on how to write or edit articles and what the general expectations from a positive edit are. But if you feel that the information you're adding is sourced from reliable and verifiable sources with no original research, and that you can include an inline citation to support them – please do go ahead with your changes. Most changes can be reversed if problemtic, so be cautious but bold. Cheers! WeWake (talk) 20:06, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
Thank you! ArizonaBYUBuckeye (talk) 20:10, 3 February 2026 (UTC)
I made a submission, and I cannot tell if it's still in cue, or I need to make more edits or add more citations. Can you see that under my submissions? ArizonaBYUBuckeye (talk) 18:22, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
Actually, I think I figured it out, looks like it's in cue and takes at least 6 weeks. Sorry to bother you. ArizonaBYUBuckeye (talk) 18:27, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
@ArizonaBYUBuckeye That's great to hear! yes there's a lot of submissions in the queue so it takes time. However, you can continue to edit and improve the article in the meantime. WeWake (talk) 19:01, 17 February 2026 (UTC)

Question from Lyrce Lord (16:20, 8 February 2026)

Hi there! Great to e-meet you! My interest in Wiki editing stems from checking a page I have not looked at in some time and noticing that all of the photos are gone and the information is stripped down dramatically. I am a retired NYC journalist and fully understand and respect your requirements for vetting information submitted. So I looked up published content and found the New York Times obituary for the subject of the Wikipedia page that was minimized. Can you help me flesh out this page? Here is the link. Previously the page for this person was informative. Please let me know how to restore published facts/art to this Wiki page if it is possible to properly do so. Thank you kindly in advance for any help Best from me and mine to you and yours (as JLC used to write), Lyrce Link to published NYT obituary: https://www.nytimes.com/1976/04/05/archives/j-lawrence-cook-pianoroll-maker.html --Lyrce Lord (talk) 16:20, 8 February 2026 (UTC)

I am a bit confused on the use of the sandbox and editing - can you help me out a little bit? --Katharine.wells (talk) 19:16, 6 March 2026 (UTC)

Yes sure. The sandbox is a "scratch" space, sort of like a personal article space, that allows you to experiment with different features, work on your article or edits as drafts, or basically do what you want with the content you add to that page. Other areas of the Wiki are "protected" in some or the other way and any test edits will be reverted as vandalism – limiting your opportunity to build drafts or flesh out ideas over time. Does this help? WeWake (talk) 19:56, 10 March 2026 (UTC)
absolutely! thank you :-) Katharine.wells (talk) 17:48, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

  • Special report: What actually happened during the Wikimedia security incident?
A horrifying exploit took place, which could have had catastrophic and far-reaching consequences if used maliciously; instead, it seems to have happened by accident and was used for childish vandalism. How did this happen, and what did the script actually do?

Question from DevQSsuper (05:18, 15 March 2026)

My article dissapeared in a wi fi short out and I have not made a copy. Can I restore this article somehow? --DevQSsuper (talk) 05:18, 15 March 2026 (UTC)

If you're using visual editor, it's possible that if you start editing the same page again, it'll restore your last working session. If not, I'm afraid that those changes might be lost if they were not saved. Sorry to hear! WeWake (talk) 23:12, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
