Improving Åland coverage
Hi everyone, I’ve been looking into improving coverage of Åland topics on English Wikipedia. I noticed that WikiProject Åland has been inactive for some time and is now defunct.
Before I try to revive it, I wanted to ask: Would it make more sense to keep Åland as a standalone WikiProject, or would it be better to work on Åland content within WikiProject Finland?
I'm happy to help either way, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. If anyone else is interested in collaborating on Åland topics, let me know! Klippor (talk) 09:28, 21 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Klippor: (and anyone else here), apologies for the late response- I just joined. My instinct is that Åland's small population would make it difficult to sustain a fully standalone WikiProject long-term. That said, with some notable exceptions, most "active" WikiProjects aren't really all that active in the traditional sense of the word- they function more as landing pages with organizational frameworks and helpful infrastructure rather than bustling, chatty talk pages. So the question might be less about activity and more about where it makes sense to organize. It may be worth reaching out to related projects for overlap and collaboration- WikiProject Sweden as well as Projekt Fredrika - which focuses on Swedish-speaking Finland. In any case, I'd be happy to contribute (in fact, I just created my first Åland-related article) and I appreciate you raising this point. Best, Zzz plant (talk) 22:09, 16 January 2026 (UTC)
As I have written HERE, I am a single person Åland project on the Dutch Wikipedia. Erik Wannee (talk) 07:50, 21 January 2026 (UTC)
- IMO, working on Åland-related topics within the WikiProject Finland is reasonable. Articles about Åland should all be tagged as belonging to WikiProject Finland, so that for example Wikipedia:WikiProject Finland/Article alerts fully covers Åland. One can always post an invitation to WT:SWEDEN and Project Fredrika to get the widest possible participation. Jähmefyysikko (talk) 16:44, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of IDBM

The article IDBM has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Tagged as Promotional and COI for 12 years and Unreferenced for 2 years. No other language has a reliably sourced article from which to translate.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion based on established criteria.
If the proposed deletion has already been carried out, you may request undeletion of the article at any time. Bearian (talk) 23:36, 25 January 2026 (UTC)

Translation help needed for bilingual welcome template
Courtesy link: Template:Welcome-foreign/Finnish
Hello. Can you help verify a brief, English-to-Finnish translation in a welcome template?
Template:Welcome-foreign is a bilingual welcome template used to welcome new users who have written content in some other language besides English. The template welcomes them first in English, then in their own language, as long as it is one of the three dozen languages it can handle. New languages are easily added. I have added support for Finnish, but I don't know Finnish so I used automatic translation to create Template:Welcome-foreign/Finnish from the original at Template:Welcome-foreign/English. I'd appreciate it if a native Finnish speaker could verify or improve the translation. Feel free to edit it directly, or paste a better translation below, if you prefer not to edit a template. Thanks! P.S., If you know Estonian, we don't have that one yet. Mathglot (talk) 03:24, 9 February 2026 (UTC)

Uppslagsverket Finland
Uppslagsverket Finland is licensed under CC-BY-SA 4.0, which means that its content can be translated and used as a basis for Wikipedia articles (per WP:COPYOTHERS). The images fall under a different license and cannot be imported. The articles are usually of good quality, even if sometimes brief, and I would recommend it as a resource.
The template for attributing a direct copy is {{Creative Commons text attribution notice|cc=by4|url=}}. Is there a better attribution template for a translation of a CC-BY-SA 4.0 source? Jähmefyysikko (talk) 06:07, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
