Matthew 9:6 is the sixth verse in the ninth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament.

In the original Greek according to Westcott-Hort this verse is:

In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads:

But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

The New International Version translates the passage as:

But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...." Then he said to the paralytic, "Get up, take your mat and go home."

Analysis

Lapide points out the importance of the fact Jesus uses the expression, "Son of Man," because "Christ forgave sins, not only as He was God, but in that He was man." In a sense he is prefiguring his ability to make satisfaction for the sins of the whole world.[1]

MacEvilly states that he says, "Arise, take up" so that all might see the clear proof of his recovered strength. "And go into your house," so that everyone who met him could testify to the miracle.[2][3]
