Fair use rationale for Image:NS logo.jpg

Image:NS logo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

I intend to review this article. Last time, I wanted to review Dakota MRT station, but fucked up and made way too many edits without ever starting the review (I think it's under review by a different person).  Preceding unsigned comment added by Whyiseverythingalreadyused (talkcontribs) 04:36, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

Ok, two, or three, landmines stand in my way here
  • Two of the three offline news citations ("Kumagai Gumi wins $217 million MRT contract" and "Chemical attack? Clean-up at N-E line") cannot be accessed on NewspaperSG; could you provide quotations from them to support the claims they make?
  • I need to go to China in a bit and can't do too much Wikipedia stuff
  • Even if I am in Singapore, the two books cited are damn far from me (at the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library in the downtown while I live in Jurong West), but that's less of a concern than the first two problems
@ZKang123 mind to help? Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 06:05, 4 April 2026 (UTC)
Ah nvm
@ZKang123: I will need to return to school in a few days' time and do not expect that I will have the time to conduct this review; my apologies

Suggestion on some section headings

I think the section headings History and Details are a little general. Perhaps Construction or similar could be used, but I don't have a clear idea. Commander Keane (talk) 10:29, 22 April 2026 (UTC)

The headings follow the pre-existing style of other metro station articles such as FAs Marina Bay MRT station, Hume MRT station and Aldwych tube station, as well as potentially cover further developments after the station's construction is finished, as seen in the Aldwych article's "Operation" and "Proposals for extension and new connections" subsections. Hi ZKang123! I will review this over the coming days. Feel free to ping me if I take too long. YuniToumei (talk) 14:02, 11 May 2026 (UTC)

@YuniToumei: as the prior reviewer at Talk:Boon Keng MRT station/GA1 (which had to die because of, uh, logistical reasons), thank you for reviewing this article :) Whyiseverythingalreadyused (t · c · he/him) 01:31, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

This article is looking quite good already! Below you find some comments. In particular there are some prose/sourcing issues and image suggestions, which is why I'm placing the article on hold. Feel free to ignore any suggestions and comments which are out of scope of the GA criteria. Please ping me once you have addressed my comments. YuniToumei (talk) 15:28, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

After all comments have been addressed, I feel confident in saying that this article meets GA. Since this is my first review, if anyone wishes to leave feedback about this GA review, please leave me a note on my talk page! I am particularly looking for feedback on if I stayed within GA criteria, since I've only done FA reviews so far. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

Prose

I've tweaked some very minor grammar/spelling mistakes. Many of my comments are link suggestions. They help MTAU, but are not required, feel free to ignore where you think they are inadequate.

Lead

  • As with most NEL stations, the station is a designated civil defence shelter and is wheelchair-accessible: This site by the LTA claims that all MRT stations are barrier free. I'm not sure if that makes it misleading to say that Boon Keng is wheelchair-accessible "as with most".
    • Removed "as with most". - Kang

History

  • Suggest linking Potong Pasir on first appearance in article prose
    • Linked to the station
  • Suggest linking cut-and-cover to Tunnel#Cut-and-cover
    • Done
  • Block 22 and Block 34: As someone not from SG (consider GACR#1), I initially did not understand what these blocks entailed. You mention "HDB" later, which is what I understand these two blocks to also be. I suggest adding it here to provide the necessary context for a broad non-SG WP:AUDIENCE.
    • Done. Adding it's HDB flats
      • Perfect, exactly what I was looking for. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
  • Suggest linking Diaphragm wall, and perhaps adding a short sentence explaining what that means for MTAU reasons.
    • Honestly, I rather just linked and people can check from the link. The source doesn't really givean explanation
  • Boon Keng station utilised a semi top-down construction method: (A) I don't think you can grammatically say that the station utilised this method. It's not like the station is an active entity which can "utilise" things, it was the engineers and construction workers who did. (B) Regarding MTAU: It's a bit of a complicated term. I see the difference of these methods outlined e.g. in Station box and wonder if you can do something similar to better explain what the semi method entailed for Boon Keng. Circumscribing it would also help alleviate using similar wording from the source to avoid WP:CLOP.[a]
    • Added as a footnote.
  • Old Alluvium: Suggest linking Alluvium.
    • This have been removed pending a better source
  • ground settlement: Suggest linking Settlement (structural).
    • Done.
  • Suggest linking Kallang River on first appearance.
    • Done.

Details

  • Suggest linking SBS Transit on first appearance in prose.
    • Done.
  • Central Sikh Temple: Suggest linking on first appearance in non-lead prose.
    • Done.
  • Asking from the unbiased POV of an non-SGer, are the listed landmarks closeby of enough significance to be mentioned? For GACR#3b.
    • They are mentioned by the source, so...
  • named after Lim Boon Keng, a Chinese doctor: I feel like this glosses over Lim's significance as a social activist. Any regular doctor wouldn't just get an MRT station named after themselves.
    • Someone else inserted it. I removed it since it would be explained later.
      • I do think etymologies are valuable in articles. Since it is mentioned in sources I do recommend including the significance of the person the station is named after. But this goes beyond GA. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
  • When the electrical supply [...]: Saying "when" sounds like you expect to happen. Better to say "if"?
    • Done.
  • will send human waste: Same thing again. "Will" sounds like it'll happen, replace with "are designed to"?
    • Done.
  • silk-screening: Suggest linking silk-screening
    • Done.
  • four-colour method: Suggest linking Four-colour printing
    • Done.

Images

  • Infobox image is adequate and captioned. All ok.
  • There should be an image from inside the station at concourse or platform level, which I see you have plenty of on Commons. I recommend placing it in the Details section.
    • Added.
      • Looks good, caption and licence all ok. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
  • For the Artwork section per GACR#6 it would be nice to have an image. For the copyright issue, I recommend solving it by adding an TM:External media link like Icepinner did at Tai Seng MRT station#Artwork.
    • I don't exactly wish to further clutter the page
      • Fine by me. This is not strictly required for GA. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

Sources

I've sent citation bot after the article, some minor things in refs were cleaned up.

  • All ok: 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 19, 21, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29
  • 1: (A) The ref seems to be an old link. Should be now I believe? (B) It seems to be only accessible with API access. I'm going to have to AGF on the correctness of the stats.
  • 5: Can't access, AGF.
  • 10: What makes this master's thesis a reliable source?
    • Removed
  • 17: Can't access, AGF.
  • 18: Is dead, but archived version is ok.
  • 20: Can't access, AGF.
  • 22: Both original and archived version are dead.
    • Updated. It seems the website blocks access from external links unless you search on their site. Does this link work?
      • Yeah, looks good, works now.
  • 24: The given page does not verify this clause at all?
  • 25: Wrong link, is for Farrer park instead of Boon keng. Make sure to correct both the original and the archive link.
    • Fixed
  • 30: I'm concerned that the vocabulary of "lost nuances" and "new possibilities opened up" is a bit too WP:CLOPpy.
    • Well, it's still attributed to the artist.
      • Fine by me. I think your addition that he felt that way is better wording anyways. YuniToumei (talk) 09:02, 13 May 2026 (UTC)

Non-GA

Other things I noticed which are explicitly not required for this GA:

  • To minimise such risks [...]: How exactly does this method minimise said risks?
  • in the Civil Defence shelter: Why is "Civil" capitalised here (in contrast to everywhere else)?
    • Capitalised all.
      • Hm, which MOS:CAPITAL guideline requires this to be capitalised?
  • a cat, a double-decker bus and a spaceship: You don't have the serial comma here, while you do at boats, trams, and fishermen. Decide on one and make it consistent.
    • Used the oxford
  • Suggest adding alt text to images.
  • The Tan 2003 ref discusses the aspect of "colour and light" in the context of Lim Poh Teck's work outside the Art in Transit programme. It might be worth contextualising Metamorphosis in his "distinctively sunny style"
  1. Outside GA territory: You're also missing a detail from the source, it explains the term "semi" with the lack of the superstructure. As I understand a regular "top-down" method would see a superstructure, an overground building, rising simultaneously after the roof slab (which is the ground slab for the superstructure) is cast. I wonder if you could briefly explain that in the article or link it somehow.
