Correction required: The Palestinian flag is incorrectly referred to as an "Arab flag" in the photo caption "Alhambra Cinema boasting an Arab flag, 1937"

Pejorative language: The use of terms like "riot" vs. "rebellion" or "uprising" to refer only to (presumably Palestinian) Arab people reinforces the Orientalist racist stereotypes of Arabs as inherently violent people.

I would like to request a recorded pronunciation of the Arabic spelling of "Yafa" similar to the pronunciation provided in Hebrew.

"Jaffa (Hebrew: יָפוֹ, romanized: Yāfō, pronounced [jaˈfo] ⓘ; Arabic: يَافَا, romanized: Yāfā, pronounced [ˈjaːfaː]), also called Japho, Joppa or Joppe in English, is an ancient Levantine port city which is part of Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel, located in its southern part. The city sits atop a naturally elevated outcrop on the Mediterranean coastline." Siwar.mansour (talk) 14:59, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Not done for now: Before making an edit request to add a file to an article, that file needs to be uploaded to Wikipedia or Commons. If you speak Arabic, then you can record yourself speaking this word and upload that recording. If not, I suggest asking one of the Wikipedians who speak Arabic. jlwoodwa (talk) 23:32, 29 October 2024 (UTC)

Description of suggested change:

Add to "Bronze Age" section:

The city is mentioned in the Aphek Letter from c. 1200 BCE from the King of Ugarit to the Egyptian administration regarding a commercial dispute with Jaffa, found in Aphek near Rosh HaAyin.

Diff:

I would to add how this place was discussed in the classical American novel 'Moby Dick'.

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. - Umby 🌕🐶 (talk) 04:40, 10 December 2025 (UTC)
I want to insert the cultural reference of this city from Herman Melville's Moby Dick. I can simply add it in the new paragraph in the popular culture sub. The source is the Moby Dick itself.

I think it's clear enough the change that Southeastviewer wants to make. I'm not sure if it is due for inclusion or not though.
What is the nature of the reference to Jaffa found in Moby Dick @Southeastviewer? If just a brief mention, probably not due for inclusion here (in my humble opinion). IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 01:23, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
Thank you. I'm totally baffled by the other user. I was seriously thinking she was being dense on purpose. It's very discouraging when an editor behaves like that.
The name of this city is discussed by Herman Melville in Moby Dick. Melville wrote about its past, mythology, and biblical reference. Interestingly, Melville mentioned it to be located in Syrian Coast. Since Moby Dick is part of the Great American Literature, its inclusion is not without merit.
Southeastviewer (talk) 01:34, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
You need to be respectful to other editors @Southeastviewer.
I don't think the few mentions of Jaffa in Moby Dick (a massive book covering many topics) are significant enough for inclusion here. So I think this edit request is answered as not done - not due for inclusion. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 01:43, 11 December 2025 (UTC)
Moby Dick is a Great American Novel. And yet you disagree with the inclusion?
Why? Is it because Melville mentioned it's located in Syria?
Southeastviewer (talk) 04:07, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Moby Dick is definitely very notable. However the few mentions of Jaffa within it are not very notable. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 04:12, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Is it not notable that one of the greatest American literary works in the 19th century wrote that Jaffa was located in Syrian Coast? That's a very interesting information to show how people perceived Jaffa at that time. This page put Dr. Who episode, but not a writing from the American great author?
