  • Article is new and long enough, hook is very interesting and eyecatching for me, though I'm not sure about its factuality. The statement you made originated from the opinion of James Jeff, who reviews for the Computer Gaming World, in the Gameplay section and is presented as a given fact as if the game's creator intended it as such. Could you clarify on this issue? That's the only problem from my side, if it's resolved then it's good to go. Thank you. Regards, Jeromi Mikhael 18:19, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
    • Hi Piotrus, could you respond to these concerns?  Chris Woodrich (talk) 19:44, 1 April 2026 (UTC)
      • @Jeromi Mikhael and Crisco 1492: Sorry for the late reply. My watchlist is unusable and I did not receive the best practice talk page mesage or any other ping, so I missed this. The criticism is valid, here is a revised ALT1 that uses more than one reviewer comparision (side note: WAS or IS in the hook? I can never decide what is better...): --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 02:48, 2 April 2026 (UTC)
  • ALT1 ... that the 1994 video game Star Reach was a hybrid action-strategy that reviewers saw as mixing elements of games like Master of Orion, Outpost, Reunion and Star Control?
@Piotrus, Kepler-1229b, and Jeromi Mikhael: My concern with ALT0c is that it may rely on knowing those other video games, and those games are old enough that they may not be familiar to many readers today. Given that this turns two months old tomorrow, I will mark this for closure within 24 hours unless a completely new angle is proposed. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 05:53, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: I will provide ALT hook proposals below, but these are very famous classic titles, and I certainly disagree that referencing classics is something to be avoided in the DYK hooks. You also had over a month to raise this concern, so giving a 24h deadline is disrespectful to our efforts (what if one of us is busy for a day or two?), and it is something I will raise at TDYK to make sure this doesn't happen again. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 07:37, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
  • ALT1a ... that the 1994 video game Star Reach was a hybrid action-strategy that reviewers saw as mixing elements of several recently released games?
  • ALT2 ... that the 1994 video game Star Reach received mediocre reviews, with many reviewers finding it an uninspired mix of elements of several other recently released games?
  • ALT3 ... that the 1994 video game Star Reach mixed elements of a strategy game about building a space empire with arcade shoot 'em up mechanic related to piloting a spaceship?
I'm sorry if my objection was "late", I had noticed the nomination before and had concerns about it, but it was more a feeling that something about it was "off". It was only today when I realized the issue. To clarify, my issue isn't necessarily "we should not mention classic games in hooks". It's if a regular reader unfamiliar with any of these games would understand the hook or find it interesting. As for the new proposal, I'm not really happy with the first two as it's common for games to mix elements from other games. I might be okay with ALT3 if it was simplified to something like "mixed strategy game with shoot 'em up mechanics", as the current wording buries the main point a bit. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 08:58, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
@Narutolovehinata5: See ALT3a below. I don't mind a late objection; what I mind is saying "you have 24h to make me happy or I will fail you". I respect your opinion and your work here, but you are not the sole judge. Please keep that in mind. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 12:35, 10 May 2026 (UTC)
  • ALT3a ... that the 1994 video game Star Reach was a hybrid of a space empire-building strategy game with an arcade shoot 'em up?
    • Having heard of none of the games in question, ALT1 is the most interesting hook. ALT2 could do in a pinch. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 22:51, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
To clarify, Aesurias and Viriditas both commented at the WT:DYK discussion about nomination concerns. Are both of you okay with ALT1 and with AJ29's approval? Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:03, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Very few hooks will be interesting for everyone. This one is obviously interesting to at least three or four editors; and my reading of the comments indicates there are still more folks who explicitly said they like that hook than the ones who found it lacking. And if you want to push this, a review of the appropriateness of a 24h deadline in the context of vetoing the hook unless it meets your own approval is something that hasn't been resolved yet, either. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 00:29, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
I'm not saying that. It is just that they commented on the discussion page and said they shared the concerns as well. This is more of making sure that the concerns have been lifted or at least addressed before running the hook. Right now the only editor who explicitly supported the hook was AJ29; Jeromi didn't comment, while Kepler proposed an alternative wording, so both are "neutral" (though I suppose Kepler could also count as a support). So there isn't a strong consensus either way. Had Aesurias and Viriditas said at WT:DYK that they had no issues with the hook then there would be no issue. This is just to make sure that they are okay with the hook running, rather than their concerns remaining unaddressed.
To answer your concern about the 24 hours thing, it was only because I noticed that the nomination was about to time out, that was it. It wasn't because it was intended to be a hard deadline. I'll try to avoid it next time, it only happened due to circumstances. Narutolovehinata5 (talk · contributions) 00:54, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
Thank you. While I think Jeromi was fine with the hook (see his first, and effectively only comment), I am fine with pretty much any of alts, including the one(s?) you prefer. I hope we can quickly select one that nobody minds. --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 11:58, 13 May 2026 (UTC)
I don't really see ALT1 as interesting, but I agree with AJ that ALT2 could do in a pinch. theleekycauldron (talk • she/her) 22:50, 24 May 2026 (UTC)
Since different folks find different hooks interesting, I think it's fine if the promoting admin just chooses whichever they like - each choice will make someone unhappy, I feel :P For me, as I said, it doesn't matter that much which is promoted, but I'd like to see this closed before the end of the year... --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here 06:24, 26 May 2026 (UTC)
