Speedy deletion nomination of File:Coat of Arms of the University of Cambridge (Alternate).svg

A tag has been placed on File:Coat of Arms of the University of Cambridge (Alternate).svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:
- state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
- add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. New message to Dylam X
The entire point of the fair use carve-out is for articles where there is no acceptable free alternative. The idea that the "official" SVG rendering of the same specification for a coat of arms is one of those situations is totally absurd. Remsense ‥ 论 17:38, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Ok before anything, please, you do not have to be mean about it. Now my question to you is, do I have to gain consensus first, and have general acceptance for the change? or is it unacceptable in the first place to have to present the official coat of arms as an alternative to the Wikimedia Commons version, even if it is only on the main University of Cambridge page?
- I had uploaded the coat of arms to serve as the official visual identification of the University of Cambridge, and to be only used on the University of Cambridge page. You've reverted my edit, saying "says who? this is categorically not an acceptable thing to get touchy about, so please refrain". So, without being mean, please elaborate more on reasoning of your actions, or else I'll contest your nomination for this file's speedy deletion. Dylam X (talk) 18:38, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hope you don't mind me jumping in here to try to explain the issue.
- There is information on the copyright on coats of arms at Commons:Coats of arms. What's relevant here is that the blazon is normally public domain and that anyone can make a representation based on the blazon, but an individual representation based on the blazon is a separate work of art and is, as such, subject to copyright in most countries in the same way as any other image. In other words, the university's official version of the coat of arms is a copyright image. That can't just be simply used.
- Unless an image has been released under an acceptable licence, it is only usable in accordance with the WP:Non-free content criteria policy. This includes: "1. No free equivalent. Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose." For the case of the University of Cambridge coat of arms, you would need to show that the free equivalent does not serve the same encyclopedic purpose. As the coat of arms is illustrated by the free version, it is unlikely that this criterion would be passed.
- Another relevant criterion is: "8. Contextual significance. Non-free content is used only if its presence would significantly increase readers' understanding of the article topic, and its omission would be detrimental to that understanding." One of the most common cases where non-free images are used is for WP:Logos. However, the university logo is the coat of arms plus the words 'University of Cambridge', already shown in the infobox. Per WP:NFC#CS, "To identify a subject of discussion, depiction of a prominent aspect of the subject generally suffices, thus only a single item of non-free content meets the criterion." The addition of a separate non-free image showing just the coat of arms in addition to the university logo would therefore not be valid under this criterion.
- Failing any one of the free use criteria means the use of a non-free image is not allowed. It is likely that the university's own version of the coat of arms fails at least two of the criteria. This is a legal policy issue that cannot be overridden by local consensus. Robminchin (talk) 21:58, 22 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you very much! That really helped me understand more about Wikipedia's copyright policies towards university heraldry. I understand that my judgement was wrong on this issue and that I had to have more knowledge about the copyright policy and what criteria have to be met when uploading to Wikipedia University heraldry. Stop Removing Images Related to Rabba Massacre
Please stop removing images related to the Rabaa Massacre from Sisi's Wikipedia page. They are relevant to the section, Coup d'état and Rabaa massacre. Hitler's Wikipedia page contains the following photograph: "A wagon piled high with corpses outside the crematorium in the liberated Buchenwald concentration camp (April 1945)." It is relevant because Hitler was responsible for the Holocaust. Omar Bashir's Wikipedia page contains images of the Darfur crisis. This is standard procedure. There is a section on the Rabaa massacre, so these images are relevant. Thank you for understanding. If you have any concerns, please indicate them in the article's talk page, where they can be discussed. Firecat93 (talk) 19:51, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you have any concerns, the best place for us to discuss them is in the talk page. Thank you. If you believe any of the photograph are still "disturbing," which was your earlier concern, please let me know. We can discuss that. I removed the photograph of the injured child in response to your concern. Firecat93 (talk) 20:14, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- you know what, I already told you what I have. I recommended you upload the images on the Rabaa Massacre article because they are very relevant to THAT topic. The images of dead people, people holding rabaa signs, rabaa square before and after, are all images related to the topic of the Rabaa Massacre, these pictures would be excellent for use on that page, but not El-Sisi's page, his page should involve images that have a direct correlation/relationship with him. like for example "People protesting against Sisi in rabaa square", that would be relevant. But the images of the victims of the incident, and rabaa after the massacre, are all relevant to the Rabaa massacre topic not Sisi.
- By the way, you also shouldn't use on articles the images of dead corpses, It's not just the Injured child. these graphic photographs are not recommended for use on Wikipedia articles, even if they were uploaded on Wikimedia commons. If you want to use a highly graphic picture on a page, you should gain consensus before adding the image. Dylam X (talk) 21:06, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- I removed removed the image with the corpses, as I agree that it can be considered graphic. The other images are relevant, as the protests were against Sisi. If you want to discuss this further, we can do it on the talk page of the article. Firecat93 (talk) 21:15, 28 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Dylam X The images related to protests against the coup/ousting of Morsi as well as the image of protests against the Morsi government are both relevant to the subject of that section. I thank you for sharing your concerns about the graphic images of the victims of the massacre, and I have removed them both. If you have any other concerns, let's discuss them in the talk page and try to reach a consensus with other editors. Take care. Firecat93 (talk) 21:20, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:El-Ghad party old logo.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:El-Ghad party old logo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. your edit at List of heads of state of Sudan
Hi, I have reverted your edit at List of heads of state of Sudan, where you added "Kings of Sudan". Not sure what is the source for that as Sudan had governors and not kings during that period. But anyway it does not belong to that list. See List of governors of pre-independence Sudan where your edit might fit but again its not factual. FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:16, 23 February 2025 (UTC)
- It's head of state not governor or head of government, and the king of Egypt also held the title king of Sudan (see King of Egypt and the Sudan) Dylam X (talk) 19:26, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- yes, two of them were Kings not the many other that you have listed. Plus there is already a page about that, then not sure why you want to include them where they do not belong. FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:29, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- Well the Title "King of Egypt and the Sudan" was precided by "King of Egypt, Sovereign of Nubia, Sudan, Kordofan, and Darfur". The change happened in 1951 to shorten the title, but it refers to the same territories regardless. That's why I wrote King of Sudan only. Dylam X (talk) 19:34, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- You can name yourself the King of the World as many did, that does not make it true. There is are two charters that decided who governed once during the Turco-Egyptian Sudan and second after the Mahdist defeat . have a look at the History of Anglo-Egyptian Sudan. Plus, I already told you, the article is for after independence, so you can go an create a page about Kings and we can discuss further during the deletion process FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:39, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

The change happened in 1951 to shorten the title, but it refers to the same territories regardless. That's why I wrote King of Sudan only. Dylam X (talk) 19:34, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- plus the governor was the head of the state back then. It was called Anglo-Egyptian Sudan not Egyptian Sudan. Just because the title says King of X and Y that does not make it true, that why the artcile starts with
"was the title used by the Egyptian"
FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:30, 24 February 2025 (UTC)- The Monarch of the United Kingdom never held the title of King or at least some type of sovereign of Sudan unlike the Egyptian Monarch, why had a legitimate claim to the title. Dylam X (talk) 19:37, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- Yes exactly, because there was a governor, listed here List of governors of pre-independence Sudan, which you keep ignoring. FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:40, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Dylam X please do not revert my edit, or this will disruptive editing. Up to now you have not provide any evidence. So cool down and do something else. FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:42, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- The governor was not the head of state. The Monarch was. The governor was a title closer to head of government in technicality. Dylam X (talk) 19:44, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- this is a list for after independence (can you understand that?). so just cool down and go and create a page for your kings FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:45, 24 February 2025 (UTC)
- read the first senetcne "
Since independence was proclaimed on 1 January 1956, six individuals (and three multi-member sovereignty councils) have served as head of state of Sudan, currently under the title President of the Republic of the Sudan.
" FuzzyMagma (talk) 19:46, 24 February 2025 (UTC)- Thanks for clarification on that the article refers to the heads of state post-independence. Dylam X (talk) 14:19, 25 February 2025 (UTC)
- That is the first sentence of the article and also my first comment. Next time try to listen or just walk away and revisit the situation after you have cooled down. FuzzyMagma (talk) 10:36, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

Ahmed al-Sharaa's image: Message to Dylam X: February 26, 2025
Hello @Dylam X, I have reverted four of your edits because you decided to change al-Sharaa's image despite a warning in the article page. Can you explain why you changed Ahmed al-Sharaa's image to a slightly newer one, despite the notice? Thank you. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk • contribs) 22:19, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- Hello, @Freedoxm. Well, it comes to a few reasons. First, the new Image reveals his profile more. And secondly, the new image is higher in resolution compared to the previous image. Dylam X (talk) 22:23, 26 February 2025 (UTC)
- @Dylam X, thanks for responding. However, this goes the same for Saddam Hussein. It does not reveal his profile more, but it is used. On the "higher resolution" claim, it is around the same quality in terms of resolution. However, the image that you added was wobbly, see here, because the image that you added was taken when al-Sharaa was walking very slowly, while the original 2024 image showed him standing still (full image shows him standing for a picture with a Ukrainian minister). The file name also says "Ahmad al-Sharaa" in the beginning, which is an incorrect transliteration of his arabic name. Feel free to start a talk page discussion to reach a consensus there if you want it added on the infobox. 🗽Freedoxm🗽(talk • contribs) 22:33, 26 February 2025 (UTC)

- @Freedoxm. Word from uploader replying to quote, "The file name also says Ahmad al-Sharaa in the beginning, which is an incorrect transliteration of his arabic name.": I should clarify that this transliteration originates from the EU’s file photo & audio bank and official reporting, which refer to him under that name. When the file was uploaded, it was automatically transferred to Commons under the same name to ensure EXIF-ID preservation and maintain consistency with the original source. Vertical flag in the coat of arms of Palestine
When the flag of Palestine is turned vertically, the topmost color of the flag - in this case black - should be placed on the left, not the right (when viewed from the front). However, in the coat of arms of Palestine, the flag is presented against this guideline, unlike e.g. the flag of Egypt in the coat of arms of Egypt.

Hi Dylam X! I noticed that you've made several edits in order to restore your preferred version of Catholic Church. The impulse to repeatedly undo an edit you disagree with is understandable, but I wanted to make sure that you're aware of Wikipedia's edit warring policy. Repeatedly undoing the changes made by other users in a back-and-forth fashion like this is disallowed, even if you feel what you're doing is justifiable.
All editors are expected to discuss content disputes on article talk pages in order to try to reach a consensus with the other editors involved. If you are unable to come to an agreement at Talk:Catholic Church, please use one of the dispute resolution options that are available in order to seek input from others. Using this approach instead of repeatedly reverting other editors' changes can help you avoid getting drawn into edit wars. Thank you. SarekOfVulcan (talk) 18:19, 12 November 2025 (UTC)
Blocked for sockpuppetry
Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.

Request reason:
Hello. I would like to request an unblock. I acknowledge that I violated Wikipedia’s sockpuppetry policy by using multiple accounts, including for vote-stacking in discussions. This was a serious mistake on my part, and I take full responsibility for it. I understand that vote-stacking harms community trust and disrupts consensus-building, and I regret having done it.
I have now read and fully understood the relevant policies, including WP:SOCK, WP:MEAT, and WP:BLOCK. I recognize why undisclosed multiple accounts are not acceptable, and I will only use a single account going forward. I am committed to following all Wikipedia policies and dispute-resolution processes properly.
Despite my mistake, I have made many constructive and good-faith contributions to Wikipedia over time, and I care about contributing positively. I hope that my past work shows that I can be a productive editor when following the rules. I respectfully request that you consider unblocking me, or allowing me to return under any conditions or restrictions you feel appropriate. I want to continue contributing in a responsible and policy-compliant way. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Decline reason:
We don't consider AI-generated appeals. Please write the next one yourself. DoubleGrazing (talk) 11:20, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
Dylam X (talk) 01:44, 16 November 2025 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) Please don't use AI to write your appeal for you, see WP:NICETRY. You are blocked, not the AI, so you need to write your own appeal.
Sockpuppeting is a serious breach of trust so you may be asked to follow the WP:Standard offer - if this happens, I strongly recommend building up a history of productive editing at a project you're not blocked at (usually Simple English Wikipedia is recommended for this purpose) to prove that you can be trusted.
I can't see the background data, so I'll leave the rest for an admin to address. Blue Sonnet (talk) 04:10, 16 November 2025 (UTC)

Unblocking Request

Dylam X (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log) • SI)
Request reason:
Hello, I hope this message finds you well.
As you may probably know, a month ago I committed an act of sockpuppetry on the Catholic church talkpage, trying to sway consensus to my opinion on which image of St. Peter's Basilica should be chosen as the lead image of the article. I used my older account in an act of sockpuppetry. I purposely lied and said that the other account was not mine but this was proven wrong which damaged the community's trust in me. And after I was blocked, I made my case even worse by using an AI generated message requesting an unblock. Looking back on what I did and after a month later, makes me terribly regret my actions.
I am apologising publicly for what I did and reflecting on my past mistakes a month ago, I am committed to continue contributing positively for Wikipedia and help restore the community's trust in me. I apologise for my terrible judgement.
What primarily motivates me to request this unblock is that I can confidently say that I always had contributed to Wikipedia positively, and that all my previous edits were in good faith. I never intended to vandalise or purposely cause harm to any article that I had edited before. I suggest that you take a look at my contributions to the many Wikipedia articles I had edited before, and my contributions to Wikimedia Commons, which are all visible now as positive additions and changes to the articles I had edited. Seeing users revert positive edits I had made long ago as soon as I was blocked is not fair. I very much suggest re-examining my general attitude towards my time of editing Wikipedia, and I trust in your judgement in reflecting on them and allowing me to return under any conditions you feel appropriate.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. Dylam X (talk) 18:47, 12 December 2025 (UTC)
Accept reason:
After a lot of thought I've decided to accept this request. But first I'll leave you with some words of wisdom and things that came to mind
- I couldn't find any evidence from looking at your contributions that people were reverting your edits solely because you were blocked, but maybe I just didn't look hard enough.
- The incidents last month were not an isolated incident - you seem to have similarly used your older account for disruptive sockpuppetry in December 2024 and in April 2025. Since you weren't caught and nobody seems to have told you that was wrong at the time I won't hold that against you, but keep it in mind for the future.
- WP:Edit warring, by itself, is inappropriate (albeit much less inappropriate than socking)
- You recently have not been responding to posts on your talk page - remember that WP:Communication is required, and while you aren't technically obligated to respond to every message things like #File:Hazem Omar.jpg really should have gotten an answer.
- Needless to say, repeating things like this in the future will be much harder to bounce back from - I'm giving you a second chance, but it will be harder to get a third chance.
And with that, welcome back to editing. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:15, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- This is one of the better unblock requests I've seen in a while. I'm inclined to accept it, but first {{checkuser needed}} * Pppery * it has begun... 03:40, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Pppery, nothing obvious, and nothing on the sock account since I busted it. I don't normally go straight to indef, so take that into account, but consider the CU part of the block lifted. Also, no one should be reverting edits by someone who sockpuppeted, only edits made by block-evading accounts, which neither of these were, so you may want to remind whoever that was about that. -- asilvering (talk) 10:37, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- And, to be clear, I'm not saying an indef was wrong here. I'm saying I think that they have demonstrated enough understanding now to lift the block, which the mere passage of time by itself may not have done. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:15, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Dylam X Congratulations on the successful appeal!
- @Pppery are they ok to remove the notice on their user page? Apologies if you've already removed it by the time you read this. Blue Sonnet (talk) 16:30, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- I removed the notice from this account's user page, sorry, that just slipped my mind. The notice on the other account should stay. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:47, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Pppery: I share your opinion that this is well-written unblock request. However, immediately following their unblock, the editor went straight to restoring a copyright violation that they had previously edit warred on with their sock. Their Commons account has uploaded (by my count) at least 27 copyright violations that have since been deleted, with every other image (save one) that they have uploaded since September (1, 2, 3, 4) coming back as an copyright violation upon a cursory reverse image search. They have uploaded these images to EnWikipedia, perpetuating the copyright issues. Perhaps a sock block no longer applies to this account, but their immediate return to edit warring and copyright violations indicates that this editor may not meet CIR. ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:37, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- I do agree that jumping back into old disputes immediately upon being unblocked is a bad look. But I don't think blocking them for one edit after being unblocked is a proportionate response. You've made a fairly convincing case for a block on Commons, but not for a block on enwiki yet. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:45, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Regarding the Commons, see here. Regarding EnWiki, I think the unblock request has to be read in the context of the editor's actions. I think we have seem what they plan to do with their ROPE: falsely claim that their sockpuppetry did not include previous discussions, continue edit wars, and reinsert copyright violations. I understand the desire to wait, but I think that we should consider this a one-strike situation. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 19:57, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Pbritti, I'm really concerned that you didn't mention you were WP:INVOLVED in either of these comments. That puts them in a rather different light. I urge you to get a WP:3O on that issue before taking it any further. -- asilvering (talk) 20:54, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Asilvering: I'm not an admin nor acting in an admin capacity. I'm not sure 3O is applicable for cases of sockpuppetry and blatant copyright violations. I'm entirely unsure what different light you see them in, as it is standard for an editor who has witnessed disruption to also be the one also testify to that behavior. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:00, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- Participating in an unblock discussion as a neutral party is indeed an admin-adjacent action. -- asilvering (talk) 21:05, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Asilvering: Reading WP:INVOLVED, no, that's not true. I did not hide my previous involvement with the editor (especially since I'm the one who filed the SPI). The editor has already been unblocked, so my comments here are to notify the unblocking admin that disruption resumed following the unblock. I am not assessing consensus, closing a discussion, or performing an admin action. I am a bit surprised you would accuse me of improper behavior here, especially since I've just spent the better part of a hour sifting through over the many copyright violations from this editor and tagging them for removal. I really respect you, asilvering, but this doesn't make any sense. ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:11, 14 December 2025 (UTC)

- (Non-administrator comment) @Dylam X, you're going to have extra eyes on you following an unblock - you're essentially walking on eggshells for a while.
- Perhaps it might be an idea to voluntarily stay away from anything that is even tangentially related to previous disputes for a while? Avoid anything that could be seen as revisiting a previous problem. Wikipedia is massive so I'm sure there's something else you can work on for a couple of months or more?
- Going straight back into troublesome areas is going to raise eyebrows and draw attention - IMO it's really not worth risking another block over (especially since you worked so hard on your appeal).
- Treat this as an opportunity to expand your knowledge and discover something new!
- Does that sound like a good idea? Blue Sonnet (talk) 23:26, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- @Blue-Sonnet Thank you, this is a good solution for now. and in the meanwhile I'll try to have more insight about Wikipedia's copyright policy. Dylam X (talk) 12:18, 15 December 2025 (UTC)

You've made a fairly convincing case for a block on Commons, but not for a block on enwiki yet. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:45, 14 December 2025 (UTC)
- I removed the notice from this account's user page, sorry, that just slipped my mind. The notice on the other account should stay. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:47, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
- And, to be clear, I'm not saying an indef was wrong here. I'm saying I think that they have demonstrated enough understanding now to lift the block, which the mere passage of time by itself may not have done. * Pppery * it has begun... 16:15, 13 December 2025 (UTC)
With some regret, I have filed a new SPI regarding this editor here. @Pppery and Asilvering: this is a courtesy ping, as the two of you are the admins who have previously addressed this case. Best, ~ Pbritti (talk) 21:31, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
- Handled. Only mildly apropos, if you don't get an email from me in the next 24hrs and you remember before I do, ping me? -- asilvering (talk) 22:11, 16 December 2025 (UTC)
