Hi SamHolt6
I've been adding more to this page - William_Dove_Paterson- an info box, a photo, some genealogical details.
The Ref list which you tidied has got messed up again. In particular a spurious reference has cropped up (18 Shea Realty corporation) which has nothing to do with this article.
How can I remove that and tidy the refs in the way you did before? Any pointers?
Thanks
Watty62 (talk) 13:51, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- It seems you removed the spurious reference yourself. You can see here what SamHolt6 did; he replaced the repeated full citations by name and page number, with the full citation now given only once in the "References" section. Huon (talk) 22:16, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
- @Watty62: hi again. I have clean up the new references you added to the article, but I can point you in the right direction. My suggestion would be to read WP:REFHELP, as it contains some valuable pointers. As far as the William Dove Paterson article is concerned, I have renamed the "Notes" and "References" into "References" and "Works Cited", respectively. Now when you cite an additional source, it should be filed under the "References" subheading and probably wont need any changes. Again, welcome to the project and good luck with your future editing! Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Event coordinator granted

After reviewing your request for the "eventcoordinator" permission, I have enabled the flag on your account. Keep in mind these things:
- The event coordinator right removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24-hour period.
- The event coordinator right allows you to temporarily add the "confirmed" permission to newly created accounts. You should not grant this for more than 10 days.
- The event coordinator right is not a status symbol. If it remains unused, it is likely to be removed. Abuse of the event coordinator right will result in its removal by an administrator.
- Please note, if you were previously a member of the "account creator" group, your flag may have been converted to this new group.
If you no longer require the right, let me know, or ask any other administrator. Drop a note on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of the event coordinator right. Happy editing! stwalkerster (talk) 22:07, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello!
Hiya!
Succession box
I saw your edit and self-revert on Martina Chukwuma-Ezike, and found my way to {{s-aca}} where, helpfully, the example is a Scottish Uni rector, so I nicked the code from there and tweaked as necessary. I remembered seeing {{s-incumbent}} which simplifies the "after" box, and got it sorted (just {{s-inc}} would do). I think you missed out the {{s-start}}, which may have caused problem? Henry Martin as an authority on jazz compositions
I noted your use of Charlie Parker, Composer as the source for listing such recorded Charlie Parker improvisations as "Kim" as compositions. Henry Martin's view of what constitutes a composition is admittedly idiosyncratic, where he writes in the Introduction to this book:
I argue that because of features of characteristic of jazz, certain Parker creations, and by extension similar creations of all jazz musicians, should be thought of as compositions despite lacking features generally considered necessary. [emphasis added]
This is Humpty Dumpty's view, likewise idiosyncratic and equally tendentious:
'When I use a word,' Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, 'it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.'
— Lewis Carroll, Through the Looking Glass
If you hew to them, why not take every jazz improvisation on every chorus of every recording as a composition, worthy of inclusion? Why limit it to Parker's admittedly brilliant flights? Where does this logic halt? Why not include (among countless others) tenor saxophonist Ben Webster's famous and oft-repeated (inexactly, to be sure) chorus on Duke Ellington's "Cotton Tail" as a contrafact of I Got Rhythm, as is Cotton Tail itself? That would certainly be Wikipedia's longest article, duplicating virtually the entire jazz discography -- multiplied by the number soloists (or even of choruses) per recording. Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 21:55, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Larry. Merry Christmas.
- Having read your comments, I have to say that I tend to agree. What's the article in question? If you provide a link (as I can't seem to find it) I will look at this afresh. Thanks Watty62 (talk) 17:38, 28 December 2023 (UTC)
@Watty62 Further, Henry Martin's notion of an improvisation (even by an improviser as brilliant as Parker) as a composition is a Fringe Theory that should not be used as a reference. (I only learned of this constraint today.) Larry Koenigsberg (talk) 23:51, 22 December 2023 (UTC)

Update: New Event-Organizer Tools for You on English Wikipedia!
Hello,
I hope you're doing well! As an event coordinator on English Wikipedia, I’m happy to share some news with you. You now have the event-organizer right! This gives you access to the CampaignEvents extension, a powerful set of tools to help you organize and promote events and WikiProjects more easily. With the CampaignEvents extension, you can:
- Manage event registration directly on English Wikipedia.
- Use the Invitation List tool to find potential participants for your events/WikiProjects
- Receive automatic promotion of your events via the Collaboration List
Learn more on mw:Help:Extension:CampaignEvents
Now that I have your attention, I’d also like to share some updates to the extension:
- The Collaboration List can now be transcluded, meaning you can easily embed it on other wiki pages to share event details with more people by adding {{Special:AllEvents}}. Learn more.
- Admins can now determine which namespaces are permitted for Event Registration on English Wikipedia, via Special:CommunityConfiguration. Right now, the Event namespace is permitted by default for Event Registration. However, other namespaces (such as Wikipedia, WikiProject, etc) can now be added as permitted namespaces by admins too. This can help other types of organized activities, such as WikiProjects, use Event Registration. For details, please visit: Permitted_namespaces
If you need help using these new tools, I’m here to support you. Feel free to reach out for guidance. You can also find some useful video guides on Commons.
We’re excited to see how you use these tools for WikiProjects or events! If you have any questions, please let me know.

- @Udehb-WMF That's great. Thank you very much. I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with these!
- Watty62 (talk) 12:16, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Udehb-WMF
- I tried following the instructions here to create an event in the Meta Event namespace. That resulted in this being created but it does not look like the results in the training video.
- Is the because I do not have rights to create events in Meta - just EN Wikipedia?
- Is the correct course to seek rights and create the event on Meta - OR to create it in EN Wikipedia and transclude that as needed?
- Thanks

The World Destubathon
You are invited to participate in The World Destubathon. It's currently planned for June 16-July 13, partly due to me having hayfever during that period and not wanting to run it throughout July or August in the hotter summer and will be run then unless multiple editors object. There is currently $3338 going into it, with $500 the top prize. As 250 countries and entities is too much to patrol, entries will be by user, but there is $500 going into prizes for editors covering the most countries. Sign up if interested! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:25, 28 May 2025 (UTC)
