Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Switzerland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a collection of discussions on the deletion of articles related to Switzerland. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.

Adding a new AfD discussion
Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at WP:AFD. Similarly, removing an AfD from this page does not remove it from the main page at WP:AFD. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
  1. Edit this page and add {{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}} to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.
  2. You should also tag the AfD by adding {{subst:delsort|Switzerland|~~~~}} to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
Removing a closed AfD discussion
Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
Other types of discussions
You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to Switzerland. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
Further information
For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.

This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Europe.

Fails WP:GNG/WP:NORG. I could not locate significant (or) independent reliable secondary coverage of the organisation.

Current sources appear to consist mainly of the subject’s own website/self-published material, event speaker listings, advisory-council or contributor bios for Dave Venable (chairman), and self-authored/opinion pieces that identify his affiliation with the organisation.

The closest independent source is the Cybernews article quoting the chairman with his position, but is still not coverage of the organisation itself. Nyxion303💬 Talk 20:52, 12 March 2026 (UTC)

  • Comment: Additional context: the article author's short contribution history (24 edits over ~9 years) appears narrowly focused on David Venable (the chairman) and closely related subjects over several years, with long inactive periods between bursts of activity. This AfD is about an organisation chaired by David Venable and both this and the chairman's article were created by the same author. That does not by itself prove a conflict of interest, but it does raise WP:COI / WP:SPA concerns that I wanted to highlight here separately for more experienced editors in this area to look into and for User:Awkfilet to hopefully explain separately. Nyxion303💬 Talk 21:07, 12 March 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete - Does not meet WP:GNG with lack of WP:SIGCOV. In regards to the comments above about 'independent coverage being limited' and 'adding sources as additional coverage is received' - articles on Wikipedia should only be published once notability is met. FiddleheadLady (talk) 01:05, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
  • Comment: Totally understand the concern about WP:GNG / WP:NORG. The institute is fairly new (2025), so the amount of independent coverage specifically about the organization itself is still limited. The intent of the article was simply to create a short stub documenting the existence of the organization and its leadership rather than a full profile.

If the consensus is that the topic is premature for mainspace at this stage, I’d totally be fine with draftification rather than deletion, so the article can be improved later as more independent coverage appears. Regarding the note about my editing history: I’ve made occasional edits on topics I am familiar with over the years. If there are any concerns about the neutrality of any of my edits, or any perceived conflict of interest, I’m certainly happy to step back and let other editors review/revice.

Speedy delete fails in multiple levels including clear AI signs. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 02:27, 13 March 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete: Fails the requirements of WP:Notability, On Wikipedia, notability is a test used by editors to decide whether a given topic warrants its own article. Information on Wikipedia must be verifiable; if no reliable, "independent" sources can be found on a topic, then it should not have a separate article. The subject is new, so even if legit, it is too soon. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for "advertising" or "promoting" new companies. -- Otr500 (talk) 19:46, 15 March 2026 (UTC)
  • Delete I am not sure about the COI or anything, and frankly, I think the AI stuff is mostly from the commentary surrounding the AfD discussion, not the article itself. That all being said, I fail to see WP:SIGCOV for the article, and as is, I think it mostly deserves to be deleted failing extensive and in depth independent coverage from reliable sourcing.
