The first sentence of the article reads "Floyd Joy Mayweather...is an American professional boxer and promoter; widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time." One rule with semicolons is that they unite two in-sentence clauses that, on their own, could be complete sentences. At Semicolon#Usage, the three relevant examples ("My wife would like tea", etc.) all contain clauses that would work as separate sentences. In this case, "widely considered one of the greatest boxers of all time" has no subject so this construct is grammatically incorrect. The semicolon should be replaced with "who is" although replacing it with a comma or adding "he is" after the semicolon would also work. 2602:306:BC31:4AA0:480B:1D12:4102:2962 (talk) 17:56, 3 August 2017 (UTC)

A few more semicolon issues.
- Second paragraph: "Many sporting news and boxing websites ranked Mayweather as the best boxer in the world, pound for pound, twice in a span of ten years; including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BoxRec, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports." That semicolon needs to be a comma because the second clause wouldn't be a complete sentence.
- Third paragraph: "As of his most recent fight in 2015, Mayweather has a record of 26 wins without a loss or draw in world title fights (10 by KO); 23 wins (9 KOs) in lineal title fights; 24 wins (7 KOs) against former or current world titlists; 12 wins (3 KOs) against former or current lineal champions; and 2 wins (1 KO) against International Boxing Hall of Fame inductees." Semicolons are only supposed to separate items in lists when at least one clause contains a comma. The list of clauses starts after "Mayweather has a record of" and there aren't any commas there. All four semicolons should be commas.

- Second paragraph: that's a whole load of commas due to the inclusion of "pound for pound", which is why I threw in the semicolon to break up the list of publications beginning from The Ring. I forget which WP:MOS says it, but I remember it saying semicolons are acceptable in that context. Either that, or the whole sentence could be reworded somehow. *edit* It might be the fifth example here.
- Third paragraph: now amended. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 18:58, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Mac Dreamstate: I think the issue is with the unusual construct where "pound for pound" is used after the words "boxer," "fighter," etc. and not immediately before. To me, "best boxer, pound for pound," just doesn't read right compared to "best pound for pound boxer" and if we swapped, that's two unwieldy commas removed. We obviously can't call Mayweather "best" without clarifying that he probably wouldn't beat Tyson Fury but the text making that point, "pound for pound," is separated from "best" by other words, creating a confusing distance between them. The same thing sort of happens when there's a bunch of text between "Many sporting news and boxing websites" and the actual list of those websites.
- Here's a reworded version:
- "Many sporting news and boxing websites, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BoxRec, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports, ranked Mayweather as the best pound for pound boxer in the world twice in a span of ten years."
- Or if that's a little too passive voice-ish, here's another one:
- "Mayweather was ranked the best pound for pound boxer in the world twice in a span of ten years by many sporting news and boxing websites, including The Ring, Sports Illustrated, ESPN, BoxRec, Fox Sports, and Yahoo! Sports."
- I guess I'd go with the first one because the second doesn't do a great job addressing your concern about comma overload. 2602:306:BC31:4AA0:480B:1D12:4102:2962 (talk) 19:37, 17 August 2017 (UTC)

Done jd22292 (Jalen D. Folf) (talk) 19:56, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- Here's the thing, the concept of a "pound for pound boxer"—worded like a noun—sounds very clunky to me. We can have a professional boxer, a world champion boxer, a former boxer, a greatest boxer.. but a "pound for pound boxer" just doesn't read right. Pound for pound is a concept all on its own, and it's the reason a lot of articles' lead sections have adopted the term as an adjective instead—"world's third best boxer, pound for pound", etc. Just to make it clear, I didn't come up with the aforementioned wording, but I liked how it looked at the time and subsequently ran with it. VS MCREGOR
Mayweather Jr. vs. Pacquiao
I recently had a look at the coverage of the Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on both the Boxing career of Manny Pacquiao page and this page, and I couldn't help but notice that both pages cover the event very differently. I am not saying either page is wrong or should be fixed, but perhaps some neutral/uninvolved experts on the subject could have a look and try to edit these two sections so that the Wikipedia descriptions of the same event on different pages do not contradict one another? It seems to me that the coverage on the Pacquiao page is clearly favourable to Pacquiao, and this page is favourable to Mayweather. I neither know enough about the fight or the editing conventions for this kind of stuff on Wikipedia to know what to do, but I will write this here and a similar message on the Mayweather page and hopefully the Wikipedia community will be able to sort it out.
