A GA from 2009. My main problem for this isn't sourcing (though there is the occasional uncited sentence) but rather it's lack of updates. Most sections, aside from history, end off at 2010 max, making some of the article outdated in way. The history section also has some weird sentences like
- "The Second Intifada was a major gamechanger in Gaza, too.[citation needed]" (Game changer?)
- "A tower block was bombed in the 2021 Israel–Palestine crisis.[72]" (importance?)
This could probably be easily fixed however. Onegreatjoke (talk) 17:50, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Onegreatjoke: Removed some unsourced statements, which were about the Strip in general, not the City specifically. Will go through the entire article soon and also attempt to update it for developments in the last 12 years. Al Ameer (talk) 03:04, 9 January 2023 (UTC)
- Al Ameer son, do you intend to edit this article more? ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 01:31, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- @AirshipJungleman29: Yes, other than some cleaning and c/e, I intend to update it. Requesting 2 weeks for this. —Al Ameer (talk) 01:44, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- Two weeks should not be a problem. Thanks for working on it :). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 16:15, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Al Ameer son: can you give us an update? Very happy to give you another few days to start the work: articles that are actively being worked on can stay open, even if the work is slow. Otherwise, we'll likely move to delist (and hopefully get is back as a GAN later). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 08:46, 5 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Femke: Being that the main issues raised here have been updating the article, this can be done within a week or so. The problem had been finding sources, but I believe the Pal census stats will cover a good portion of this information. My apologies for the slow start. Al Ameer (talk) 14:34, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

TITLE: Ethnic cleansing of the Jews of Gaza in 1948. BODY: During Israel’s 1948 War of Independence, the entire Jewish presence in the Gaza District — which dated back centuries in some places and to the 1920s–30s in others — was destroyed or expelled when the Egyptian army invaded from the south (May 1948) and overran the settlements in that region. Below is a historically grounded list based on contemporary Israeli archives (Yad Ben-Zvi, the IDF Historical Branch, and the 1950s Encyclopaedia of the Founding of the State of Israel).
Kfar Darom (כפר דרום) Year founded: 1946 Type: Kibbutz Fate in 1948: Besieged and ethnically cleansed by the Palestinians and Egyptians Notes: Founded by Ha-Poel Ha-Mizrachi; heroically defended by 30 members for months against Egyptian army and Muslim Brotherhood forces; evacuated June 1948. Site remained under Egyptian control until 1967.
Be’erot Yitzhak (בארות יצחק) Year founded: 1943 Type: Kibbutz Fate in 1948: Besieged and ethnically cleansed by the Palestinians and Egyptians Notes: Located east of Gaza near Dayr Suneid; attacked by Egyptian army with armor and air support; defenders withdrew under heavy losses.
Nirim (נירים) (originally Dangour) Year founded: 1943 Type: Kibbutz Fate in 1948: Besieged and ethnically cleansed by the Palestinians and Egyptians Notes: Attacked on day of independence by Egyptian forces using artillery; 7 defenders killed. Site captured and held by Egypt until 1949.
Jewish quarter of Gaza City (Old community) Year founded: Late Ottoman period Type: Urban Community Fate in 1948: Evacuated by the British and destroyed by Palestinians to complete the ethnic cleansing of the Jewish community Notes: A centuries-old Jewish quarter remained in Gaza until British evacuation; its few remaining families fled before Egyptian entry in May 1948. No Jewish residents remained thereafter.
If not for the ethnic cleansing of the Jewish poplutation from Gaza, and subtracting the in-migration of Muslim economic migrants from Egypt, it is feasible that Gaza would have a Jewish majority today.

- Confirmed, and noting that it is nonsense. None of the three named places were in Gaza city. There were Jews in Gaza city, but only about one quarter of one percent of the population. These migrants from Egypt don't exist. Perhaps LuvZion is confusing them with the large number of refugees expelled from their communities in Palestine by Israel.
