Requests for permissions
Shortcuts

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

Permissions

Handled here

  • Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
  • Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
  • AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
  • Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
  • Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
  • Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
  • File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
  • Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
  • New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
  • Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
  • Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
  • Temporary account IP viewer (add request · view requests): Temporary account IP viewers are able to view the IP address information associated with temporary accounts.

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

Review and removal of permissions

The requests for permissions process is not used to review or remove user rights:

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight permissions are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

Process

Requestors

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting the permission.

Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

I have created approximately 30 articles to date. On April 4th, one of my articles, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center was recently listed on the Wikipedia main page in the "Did you know..." section with the hook, "... that lungworms led to the creation of the Pacific Marine Mammal Center?" I believe this demonstrates my commitment to adhering to WP policies well beyond the basic requirements, having created a newly written article of sufficient quality to placement on the main page. I am well-acquainted with and fully support the policies governing article creation, particularly WP:GNG, WP:SIGCOV and the various subject-specific notability guidelines and I will continue to adhere to them to the best of my ability. @Gjb0zWxOb: why does PMMC meet WP:NORG? Why does Privacy4Cars meet WP:NCORP? voorts (talk/contributions) 04:33, 11 April 2026 (UTC)
For PMMC, the center received significant, in-depth coverage that focused on the center specifically in outlets such as the LA Times, Orange County Register, and many others, even about specific developments it was doing like the $14 million expansion and the organization's founding story. Privacy4Cars is covered extensively in many reliable sources and its products were described substantively in CNBC, Consumer Reports, Vice, and AP News coverage that is more than a passing mention but admittedly, a number of the sources discuss vehicle data privacy broadly and only mention P4C but I do think that the substantive description of the Corp's product from a diverse group of highly reputable sources does assist in having it meet NCORP. Gjb0zWxOb (talk) 15:22, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
@Gjb0zWxOb: WP:SIRS requires secondary sourcing. For PMMC in particular, those all seem to be primary sources or routine coverage. voorts (talk/contributions) 15:40, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
I would like to understand your concern better. The 2016 OC Register article is a secondary source written by an independent journalist about the organization's founding and history and the 2023 LA Times article substantially covers the $14 million expansion of the center. Many of the other sources I used are similarly staff-written articles from independent reliable publications that go beyond routine reporting. There may be a couple sources used that are routine coverage, but I believe that the article as a whole has sufficient independent, reliable, secondary sourcing to meet NORG. Gjb0zWxOb (talk) 16:10, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
@Gjb0zWxOb. I agree it may be a borderline case for notability. I'll hold off on taking action and let another admin review this request. voorts (talk/contributions) 22:35, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Not done. I'm going to decline this because if your subjects are of marginal notability, the eyes of patrollers might be helpful and they might wish to test the consensus on the notability at AfD. That's not to say that you're not doing good work, just that this permission is for people who routinely create articles that need no extra eyes. Experienced content contributor in the video games topic area; several of his creations have been brought up to GA. Spot-checking recent creations identified no major issues apart from an unclear fair-use argument. Familiarity with this aspect of policy is not typically expected for this permission, however, nor is it typically checked by NPP, so I don't believe Gommeh's creations require scrutiny any longer. • Isn't this request moot due to the move functionality in AWB only being available to admins (as well as being really bad)? Trialpears (talk) 17:14, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
No, the proposed AWB action as I understand it is turning articles into redirects, not page moves. * Pppery * it has begun... 05:10, 21 April 2026 (UTC)
That would be LUGSTUBS3, if it passes; LUGSTUBS2 will involve moving the articles that are unimproved and have not already been redirected to draft space. I intend to use AWB as part of the post-move cleanup, including removing categories and applying the relevant template - moving the page will be done with a different tool. Extended confirmed

User:Happypenguins82

Hello, I am reapplying for the Extended Confirmed permission following the resolution of an Arbitration Enforcement request the AE result from January 2026. My EC permission was previously revoked due to 'permission gaming' and a shift into contentious topics. According to the AE result, I was instructed to wait at least 30 days and complete 500 additional constructive edits before reapplying. It has now been over three months, and I’ve reached that milestone with 500 new edits. Since the initial block was removed, I’ve taken the advice I received here initial unblock request to heart and I’ve been using the "Preview" button every time before I publish changes just to double check my self, to avoid making too many small edits. I’ve focused on trying to know and better understand wikipedia, which i find fascinating, i joined a couple of projects, such as merge, redirect, short descriptions, and discovered how important it is to perform these maintenance edits to keep the encyclopedia better and safe, i plan on joining more projects, and improve my understanding of wikipedia. I'd appreciate it if you could reassess my edits and consider removing my current restrictions, and restore my EC. I would not repeat my previous mistakes. @Happypenguins82: Which CTOP areas and/or articles that are under ECP do you want to edit? voorts (talk/contributions) 22:05, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Hi @Voorts,
Thank you for the question. After my initial block was removed I took the time to better understand this massive platform. I've joined projects like Merges, Redirects, and Short Descriptions, every day I discover something new whether its templates or backlogs, this place is huge, and so much bigger than one single topic or a couple of them for that matter, and because I’ve discovered how important maintenance is, and good sources, and good content, I need the EC permission not for a specific single topic, but for handling technical and content related issues such as merges, or to be able to contribute quality edits to any topic I might come across, including contentious topics weather its Palestinian Israeli topic or Ukraine war or sudan or k pop figures, sports figures and music legends that might be EC protected. I discovered I like working with random options inside backlogs or articles, that's how I ended up in the PIA in the first place. but i can say that i learned so much in the past 3 months, and if I should come across a contentious topic, I would handle it with extra care and without repeating my previous mistakes. Happypenguins82 (talk) 06:53, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Let me ask you this. This is for my own interest so feel free to not answer. Would you regard it as a 'mistake' to advocate for or against any of the belligerents in the Arab-Israeli conflict in Wikipedia given that WP:NOTADVOCACY is policy? The reason I ask is because this and this resemble advocacy more than they resemble arguments based on reliable sources and Wikipedia policies and guidelines. So, I guess my question boils down to - do you think you can comply with WP:NOTADVOCACY even if you see other editors not complying (and of course you will see people not following the NOTADVOCACY rule probably everyday)? Sean.hoyland (talk) 11:27, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Of course I don't mind answering, I'm always happy to talk to fellow editors and I appreciate the question. I think everyone should follow all wikipedia's policy and guidelines, including the no advocacy policy, even if i have an opinion on the subject, or any topic for that matter its not relevant for a global encyclopedia, in here editors including myself should stick to dry secondary sourced facts, regardless to any editors opinion, however its not my place (not that im aware of) to instruct other editors how to behave. Happypenguins82 (talk) 12:21, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to answer, and I hope you succeed. Sean.hoyland (talk) 14:43, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

User:GGOTCC

I am currently an AfC reviewer and I regularly use AutoWikiBrowser to clean up the newest 500 articles. While I aim to do this ~once a day (schoolwork gets in the way), this brings me into contact with a lot of new articles that really should be moved into draft space or addressed in some other way. While I can do these things manually, having NPP rights would make this process much easier. Last year, I was one of the most active reviewers at AfC and regularly determined what articles to pass, decline, reject, and nominate for speedy deletion. Looking at my account broadly, I have 12,000+ edits, created 85+ articles, 16 good articles, 3 A-class articles, am autopatrolled, and am also a mentor. GGOTCC 04:53, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Hi! I would like to join the ranks of the New Pages Patrol to help out with the backlog and whatever else I can contribute to. I have created new articles, promoted one article for GA status (another one is pending review) and reviewed DYKs and GAs. I wanted to apply to the Wikipedia:New pages patrol/School, so I read through the required reading material, but sadly the listed trainers do not appear to be available. So if my existing contributions are enough, that would be great of course, but if not - are there any trainers here who would like to take me under their wing? Other recommendations are also welcome of course. Thanks! TouchedWithFire (talk) 06:26, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Hello, I've been getting more into the guidelines and quality control side of Wikipedia recently and I want to help work on the backlog of new articles. My experience with this has mostly been writing new articles, and while two have been deleted due to lacking notability, 20 more are now active on mainspace. If my qualification for this role is uncertain, I'd be happy to perform reviews with temporary permissions to see how I do. Thanks, DoO2 14:22, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

@Absolutiva voorts (talk/contributions) 17:01, 30 April 2026 (UTC)
Less well-known artists are multiple artists who are attributed this artwork. For example, Battle of Orsha (painting) have multiple attributions of Lucas Cranach the Elder, the names of less well-known artists may not be suitable disambiguation terms. Absolutiva 21:40, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done for now. You do have a healthy number of edits in relevant places but I'm concerned that you've had a few negative interactions, some involving admins, and that your response to negative feedback has been to blank it from your talk page rather than engage or accept and move on. I might have looked past that for a compelling request, but your request doesn't tell me much. The vast majority of page moves can be done without extra permissions. Of the remainder, many should be discussed or left to an admin so your mention of avoiding "these complex processes" is a little worrying. Page movers can make a lot of work that an admin would have to clean up if they make complex moves arbitrarily. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 19:58, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

I've made a hundred-something draftifications (User:MSK/Draftify log doesn't include the ones I did manually before I installed the userscript), all of which have left behind R2-deleted redirects; granting me this userright would reduce the amount of R2 requests that need to be reviewed by admins. Thanks in advance, msk 17:26, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

I'd like to request PM in light of the WP:MAY26 NPP drive coming up. I mostly want PM for move-over-redirect to avoid G6 waits for AFC and NPP work, and to avoid needing R2 for draftification. I don't use RM much because most of those moves can be done BOLDly or with CSD tags, but I have 384 moves and have had NPP since 2017. ~ A412 talk! 18:06, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

User:AriuCH

I'm requesting Pending Changes reviewer rights. I’ve been working extensively on BLPs and general content cleanup, reverting unsourced changes and restoring sourced material. I use clear edit summaries, avoid edit warring, and follow sourcing and BLP policies closely. AriuCH (talk) 12:32, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done. I'm really sorry but it's only been three weeks since your last request was declined and my feedback on your rollback request is equally applicable. I would suggest focusing on building a track record in anti-vandalism if that's something you're interested in, and not applying for any permissions for a couple of months, then I'd be happy to reconsider. I am familiar with Biographies of living persons, Neutral point of view, No original research, Verifiability and What Wikipedia is not, as well as the vandalism and copyright policies. I copy-edited the articles Baron de Richemont and Ahom religion. I expanded the article Square du Temple - Elie-Wiesel using content from the French Wikipedia articles Square du Temple - Elie-Wiesel and Prieuré hospitalier du Temple (see their history pages for attribution) and gave proper attribution in the edit summary. I created the articles A (Malayalam), Ā (Malayalam), I (Malayalam), Ī (Malayalam), U (Malayalam), and Mollakhana.

The community had agreed to merge Media coverage of the 2026 Iran warMedia coverage of the 2026 Iran war with 2026 Iran war#Reactions. I implemented the consensus and merged them. CatholicChristian (talk) 06:34, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Not done All of those things are good but none of them have anything to do with reviewing pending changes and you don't appear to have much experience with evaluating or reverting problematic edits. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:15, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Rollback

User:NuggFrog

I was granted temporary rollback rights on April 1st. I was originally not granted rollback for always issuing the vandalism template, and instructed to make my warnings more fitting to the violation. Over the past month, I feel like I have really learned how to better issue warnings and violations. I have also learned more about the AIV and UAA process, along with learning how to use resources like WikiShield and CVPI. I wish to renew/obtain permanent rollback permissions so that I can continue to use these tools. Thanks for your time :) NuggFrog (talk) 13:00, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

Done. I'm happy to extend for a while. You only have a handful of AIV/UAA reports and I'd like to see a bit more of a track record there before granting permanently. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 20:20, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

I would like to try editing using the antivandal Intercept (CVPI) tool. To do so I would need granted this specific permission. Thank you for your consideration. Augmented Seventh (talk) 18:51, 28 April 2026 (UTC) Augmented Seventh (talk) 18:51, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

I have about a month of experience in recent changes patrolling, including consistently warning/notifying editors when reverting malicious or unconstructive edits. I've been using Twinkle and UV, and I feel like I'm comfortable enough with the process to expand my arsenal and try out fast diff browsers and tools like Huggle, Interceptor, and AntiVandal. I have read and familiarized myself with WP:RBK, and I'm also a PCR, if that matters. DiscoursesonLivvy (talk · contribs) 17:51, 30 April 2026 (UTC)

User:RandomPerson238

I've been reverting vandalism for about 2 months now. I'm asking for rollback rights as I've been using RedWarn and Twinkle, but I want try some other tools such as CVPI. I have made some mistakes but I've fixed them as soon as I realised. I have no history of edit warring, and almost always leave warnings on the user's talk pages. Template editor

User:MikeVitale

Following up on an upcoming expiration of TE rights. In the past couple of months, I have been more intentional about watching the Template Edit Request page and following up on a number of them. Some examples (but not all Template Edit requests I've made since February):

Thanks for your continued consideration. MikeVitale 01:39, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

Temporary account IP viewer

User:EnIRtpf09b

I am an active rollbacker whose work revolves around fighting vandalism and (sometimes) socks. The TAIV tool will be helpful for me for instances where I suspect related abusive behaviour from TAs. I have read and understood the access policy and I will take responsibility for my actions. EnIRtpf09b (talk) 12:43, 29 April 2026 (UTC).
