PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series X/S version

I understand that the game has never received a native PS5 and XSX|S version, contrary to what is stated in the infobox. Is it correct to treat an upgrade patch as a full release? The source refers to the announcement of "Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy" which also hasn't been officially released on next-gen consoles. Liav22 (talk)

GA review

This review is transcluded from Talk:Shadow of the Tomb Raider/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.

Reviewer: Umais Bin Sajjad (talk · contribs) 05:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

I will be reviewing this nomination. I am assessing the article against the good article criteria, the video game article guidance at MOS:VGLAYOUT, and the WikiProject Video games sourcing guide at WP:VG/S.

I have not completed the full source spot check yet, but the article appears close enough for a full review rather than a quick fail. I am placing the review on hold while the issues below are addressed.

Initial comments

  • Prose and copyediting: The article needs a full copyedit before it can meet GA criterion 1a. I noticed several spelling and grammar issues, including "indigineous", "camouflauge", "preivous", "elaboarted", "Lara finds realizes it is missing", and "roll or a dodge". Please review the article throughout for similar problems.
  • Lead: Please check that the lead summarizes the article proportionately per MOS:LEAD, especially the later media/future material.
  • Future section: Please review whether the standalone "Future" section gives undue weight to later franchise material per WP:UNDUE. Material about later Tomb Raider media should be included only where it is directly relevant to Shadow of the Tomb Raider and should not turn the article into a broader franchise timeline.
  • Sourcing: I will spot check a sample of references per WP:V and WP:RS. Please ensure that claims about development, sales, critical reception, and future releases are supported by reliable sources, preferably sources considered reliable under WP:VG/S, and that the wording does not closely paraphrase the sources per WP:Close paraphrasing.
  • Video game article structure: The main structure is broadly appropriate for a video game article under MOS:VGLAYOUT, with gameplay, plot, development, release, reception, sales, and accolades sections. However, prose quality and section balance need attention before the article can pass.

I will continue checking the article against the remaining GA criteria after these initial issues are addressed. Umais🗣 05:08, 24 April 2026 (UTC)

I did some additional copyediting for the article. I am not sure which part of the Future section is undue? The anime is directly connected to Shadow, and Catalyst is the first mainline game in the franchise since Shadow. This section would not include any future sequels. OceanHok (talk) 16:17, 24 April 2026 (UTC)
My concern is mostly the section title and the amount of Catalyst detail. Since the animated series has already premiered, "Future" no longer seems like the best section title. Per MOS:VGLAYOUT, would you be open to renaming it to something like "Related media"?
For Catalyst, I think the connection to Shadow is weaker because it is part of the later fourth series and is described as a sequel to Tomb Raider: Underworld, not Shadow. A brief mention may be acceptable if directly tied to the Survivor trilogy, but the setting, platforms, release window, and broader premise details are probably better left to the Catalyst article per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE. Criteria review

I am continuing the review against the six GA criteria. I am keeping this focused on points that affect GA status; any non-essential suggestions will be treated as optional.

1. Well-written

Status: Needs work.

The earlier copyediting has improved the article, but I do not think criterion 1a is fully met yet. There are still several prose, grammar, and punctuation issues that should be fixed before the article can pass. Examples include:

  • They can also use mud to camouflage herself – subject/pronoun agreement.
  • nearby enemies.. and can be separately adjusted.. – double periods.
  • The title and the announcement trailer was officially revealed – subject/verb agreement.
  • The Definitive Edition was ported to Linux and macOS ... and to Stadia – sentence structure issue.
  • Tombs were spread across the main critical path and side objectives.[35]Bisson... – missing space after the citation.
  • drawing inspirations from by the cenotes in Mexico – awkward phrasing.
  • fewer forced gun battles – appears to be missing a closing quotation mark.
  • made it a ultimately disappointing entry – should be "an ultimately disappointing entry".
  • In the United Kingdoms – should be "United Kingdom".

Please give the article another careful copyedit, especially the Gameplay, Development, Release, and Reception sections. These are not FA-level nitpicks, but they do affect clarity and grammatical correctness under WP:GACR criterion 1a.

The overall article layout is broadly appropriate for a video game article under MOS:VGLAYOUT. The gameplay, plot, development, release, reception, sales, accolades, and later media material are all reasonable sections for this topic.

2. Verifiable with no original research

Status: Still checking.

The article is well cited overall, and most of the sources appear to be from publications that are generally acceptable for video game articles under WP:VG/S, including sources such as IGN, GameSpot, PC Gamer, Eurogamer, Polygon, GamesRadar, Game Informer, VentureBeat/GamesBeat, and similar outlets.

I still need to complete a source spot check per WP:GAN/I#R3. I will check a sample of sources to make sure that the cited text is supported by the source and that there is no close paraphrasing or copyright issue. For now, I am not identifying a broad sourcing failure, but this criterion is not fully checked yet.

3. Broad in its coverage

Status: Mostly meets, one point to resolve.

The article covers the main aspects expected of a video game article: gameplay, plot, development, release, reception, sales, accolades, and related later media. I do not see a major coverage gap at this stage.

The remaining issue is the current "Future" section. I agree that the animated series is directly relevant because it is set after Shadow of the Tomb Raider and follows the Survivor trilogy continuity. However, since the series has already premiered, "Future" is no longer the best heading. Per MOS:VGLAYOUT, I think "Related media" would be a clearer title.

For Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the connection to Shadow is weaker because it is described as a sequel to Tomb Raider: Underworld, not Shadow. A brief mention may be acceptable if directly tied to the Survivor trilogy, but the setting, platforms, release window, and broader premise details should probably be left to the Catalyst article per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE.

4. Neutral

Status: Appears to meet.

The reception section appears balanced. It includes both praise and criticism, including positive comments on gameplay, puzzles, exploration, level design, and production value, while also covering criticism of the story, characterization, progression systems, and lack of innovation. I do not see a neutrality issue at this stage.

5. Stable

Status: Meets.

I do not see evidence of an edit war or ongoing instability. Normal edits made during a GA review do not count against stability.

6. Illustrated

Status: Appears to meet.

The article uses a non-free cover image with a non-free use rationale, a non-free gameplay screenshot with a stated rationale, and freely licensed images for Camilla Luddington and Machu Picchu. The images appear relevant to the article and have suitable captions. I do not see a GA-level image licensing issue at this stage.

I have copyedited the article and integrated the future section into release. OceanHok (talk) 11:17, 25 April 2026 (UTC)
Thanks, the related media issue is resolved. A few minor prose/punctuation issues remain before I can mark criterion 1a resolved. I will proceed with the source spot check.
  • players can also use her bows and arrows and a variety of firearms to defend herself – understandable in context, but the pronoun agreement is awkward because the subject is players. Please rephrase slightly for clarity.
A better fix would be: If direct combat is inevitable, players can also use Lara's bows and arrows and a variety of firearms to defend her.
  • gameplay experimentation.. – double period.
  • little to no use.. – double period.
  • unimaginative in their design.. – double period.
