Anglicised Chinese/Korean names

There's an article about US-based academic Venus Seunga Jin. Her surname is Jin. I wanted to add her to a surname list as usual, to help the reader who is looking for, perhaps, "Jin's work on narcissism and altruism during Covid". The dab page at Jin, under surname, lists Jin (Korean surname) and Jin (Chinese surname), and the latter is divided into sections for three different names which all transliterate as "Jin".

How do we provide access by surname in cases like this? Most readers, and editors, will not know the ancestry of someone who lives and works in the US or Europe, or which of the Chinese names their name is derived from. Looking at Category:Living_people?from=Jin finds several other people including Andrea Jin, Aowen Jin, Justin Jin and Yufang Jin, who don't seem to have any incoming link from a Jin surname list. What do we do?

I'll mention this discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Disambiguation as it's an issue adjacent to disambiguation. PamD 23:56, 22 December 2025 (UTC)

If they are (for practical purposes) American, then I'd say Jin is an American surname even if it is one of Chinese/Korean origin and so I'd expect to find it listed at Jin or Jin (surname) - especially as it sounds like specifying more granularly would involve original research. This is from the perspective of someone completely unfamiliar with the conventions and guidelines etc in this area, which I presume will also be the case for the majority of readers. These name lists divided by country are a bit presumptive. What if Korean parents immigrated to China? What if the parents immigrated to a more multi-cultural country, where it's not sourceable if they were from China or Korea? —Bagumba (talk) 06:24, 23 December 2025 (UTC)

Dispute on need for two pages for the same given name

I and User:Omnis Scientia disagree as to the desirability of having both Marie (given name) and List of people with given name Marie. The discussion has been opened by me at Talk:Marie (given name)#Dispute: one page or two?. Comments are welcome. Clarityfiend (talk) 22:17, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
