Laksana Legacy or Legacy SR is a brand of bus bodies manufactured by the bodywork manufacturer Laksana from Ungaran, Semarang Regency, Central Java. Legacy SR is a bus bodywork widely used by several commercial bus operators for medium- and long-distance transportation intercity bus, including for tour bus and for private use as a means of passenger transport.

Legacy SR1 owned by Perum DAMRI

The Legacy SR body is the next development series of the Legacy model released since 2008. The initial design of this bus, used a single windshield model (single glass) with an outer accent of the side divider (called a scarf) shaped similar to a boomerang pointing backwards.[1] In 2011, Laksana released a design update for the Legacy called the Legacy SR1, with significant design changes to the forward-facing scarf accent and updated front and rear bumpers. Then in 2013, through the next update, Laksana's bodywork changed the appearance of the front and rear lights with a slight accent on the front bumper.[1]

The development of the "Legacy SR" variant continued with updates to several exterior accents, especially the design of the front and rear lights, until the launch of the "Legacy SR2" in 2016 which still used a single windshield, as well as the development of product variants to various bus models and dimensions in 2017, including significant changes to the front appearance of the bus by using a double windshield. The development of this variant started from the Legacy SR2 HD (high decker) model to the release of the double decker bus model called the Legacy SR2 DD (double decker).[2] This double decker bus was introduced at the GIIAS 2018 event, as well as an update to the "Legacy model SR2 HD Prime".[3] A year later, Laksana released the Legacy SR2 Transporter MHD (mid-high decker) variant, to accommodate the need for spacious luggage space, up to 6 two-wheeled vehicles and intercity goods delivery facilities.[4] This variant was released using the Mercedes-Benz OH1626 chassis.[a][5]

At the 2019 GIIAS, Laksana launched a sleeper-class bus, a bus concept with individual cabins for each passenger, with wider seats that can recline up to 150°.[6][7] Another variant of this version is the Legacy SR2 Combi Suites Family which was released in 2022, with a combination of conventional seat configuration at the front and a sleeper seat at the rear, without having to use a double decker body.[8] This variant adopts a single windshield with a capacity that can accommodate up to 29 passengers, made for the first time for the bus operator Sinar Jaya.[9]

In 2021, Karoseri Laksana re-launched a bus design with a single windshield (single glass) as the design concept of the early generation Legacy SR2, to improve the visibility aspect for passengers so that their view is not obstructed by the windshield divider on the double-glass variant.[10] There are two variants taken from the base model of the Legacy SR2 HD Prime bus, called the Legacy SR2 Panorama and Legacy SR2-S. The main difference between the two variants lies in the placement of the side divider accent (shawl) which is integrated with the roof for the SR2-S variant and a separate shawl for the SR2 Panorama variant (integrated with the mirror), thus creating the impression of a floating roof. In addition, the windshield size of the SR2 Panorama variant is 14mm higher and the shape of the fog lamp frame is more defined, aligned with the main lamp (headlamp). [11]

At the 2022 GIIAS event, Laksana released the third generation of the Legacy SR series called the Legacy SR3.[12][13] This update from the previous generation is equipped with the safety feature Front Underrun Protection System (FUPS)[b] and other updates including changes to the design of the headlights, taillights and fog lamps.[15] The highest series of this variant is called the Legacy SR3 Ultimate with additional accent details and materials used, including the use of wood panel ornaments on the interior and line accents that extend to the rear on the bus exterior.[16] In this exhibition, Laksana introduced three variants, namely, SR3 Ultimate XHD[c], SR3 Suites Combi[d] and SR3 Suites Class.[e][19] This launch also marks 45 years of Laksana's journey and its role in the bodywork industry, both domestically and abroad.[20] This third generation update, in addition to eliminating the scarf accent for passenger viewing comfort with a single windshield,[21] There is also a variant with a double windshield which aims to make it easier to change parts spare parts, so that it can be adapted from the previous SR2 series. Commercial

The Legacy SR bodywork is widely used for premium long-distance passenger transportation, generally as a mode of inter-provincial transportation on medium and long-distance routes, as well as non-route tourist buses. For tourist bus transportation, the Legacy series is used to add to the Pandawa 87 fleet,[30] Bigbird fleet owned by Bluebird and TAM Pariwisata.[31] Meanwhile, for inter-provincial transportation, the Legacy Suites Combi series is used as a fleet for bus operators Sinar Jaya, Gunung Harta and a company from Sulawesi Island, namely Adhi Putra[32] and Harapan Jaya with its fleet of double-decker bus that use the Legacy SR2 DD with a Scania K410iB triple axle chassis.[33] Meanwhile, for the other Legacy SR series, towards the end of 2021, Sudiro Tungga Jaya released its new fleet using the Legacy SR2 XHD Prime (with the Volvo B11R chassis), after previously releasing the same body, using the chassis Mercedes-Benz OH2542.[34] Early 2023, Rosalia Indah announced that it would expand its fleet using the Legacy SR3 XHD Panorama with a chassis Hino RM280,[35] then PO Handoyo is recorded as using the Legacy series body which also uses the Hino series chassis.[36] The Legacy SR bodywork is also used for bus operator fleets including Agra Mas, Perum DAMRI, Kramat Djati, Pahala Kencana, Putera Mulya, Sumber Alam, Siliwangi Antar Nusa, Raya and several others other bus operators.[37][38]

For the international market, Laksana has exported the Legacy SR2 XHD Prime and the Legacy SR2 DD double-decker bus to Bangladesh. This exported double-decker bus has different specifications from those marketed domestically, including a longer dimension of up to 14.4 meters and the chassis used is the Scania K410eB triple axle.[39] Laksana has pioneered overseas marketing since 2009 by shipping units of bus variants other than the Legacy SR series, including Cityline, Discovery and Nucleus.[40] In addition to Bangladesh, Laksana also markets its products to Fiji, but this marketing was stopped in 2018, due to regulatory constraints Euro 4 emissions set by the destination country.[l][42]
