Name for infobox and lead
It was recently altered around the name in the infobox and the lead to show "Internet Movie Database" as the name of the website. However, while that's where the IMDb got its name from, IMDb is actually its full and legal name. Internet Movie Database is an explanation expansion of where it originally came from but isn't actually its name any longer. Its not its full name. If you wanted to have its actual full name, it's IMDb.com, Inc. IMDb doesn't even use the phrase "Internet Movie Database" in any way. This isn't like NASA whose actual name is National Aeronautic and Space Administration, Internet Movie Database isn't the organisation's name. Canterbury Tail talk 15:52, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
- Any objections to using the actual name, and not it's originating description? Canterbury Tail talk 13:26, 17 April 2025 (UTC)
- Since there's no objections, and no counter arguments and references that it's name is Internet Movie Database and not IMDb, I've put it back. Canterbury Tail talk 11:34, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I missed this one, sadly. I was the one who actually started this whole thing. Can we revive this discussion? Æ's old account wasn't working (talk) 03:44, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- What's to discuss? Please revert your edits. Internet Movie Database is not its name, hasn't been for a long long time. There is no evidence that the website and company are known by anything other than IMDb or IMDb.com. As the editor pushing for Internet Movie Database being its name, you'll need to provide evidence for your claims and not revert to your preferred version. Canterbury Tail talk 11:33, 6 May 2025 (UTC)
- "Internet Movie Database" is no longer the "full" name. It's a DVD/KFC/SAT situation. Nardog (talk) 07:01, 6 May 2025 (UTC)

- So? That's an Amazon issue, not an IMDb issue. Websites and servers go down all the time, it's generally not notable. Canterbury Tail talk 23:34, 20 October 2025 (UTC)
- Amazon owns AWS & IMDb. Many of the biggest sites were unusable.
- Piñanana (talk) 19:06, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, but it was AWS, which is 100% unconnected to IMDb as an entity. Again it's a think about AWS and Amazon themselves, not IMDb. Canterbury Tail talk 19:48, 21 October 2025 (UTC)
