Scope and goals
This WikiProject aims primarily to describe, create and maintain articles on all animals, that is, all species belonging to the kingdom Animalia. This project's scope also includes zoologists and zoology-related articles.
Goals:
- Create and maintain articles about animals to an encyclopedic standard.
- Describe all families, genera and species of the kingdom Animalia.
- Maintain Category:Animals and its subcategories.
- Assess and rate articles under the scope of Wikiproject Animals.

Naming conventions
Common (vernacular) names are not capitalised (except where proper names appear).
Article content
For articles where a common name is used for the article title, the consensus way to write the combination of common name plus scientific name in the lead is (per this discussion):
- The giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis) is an even-toed ungulate mammal....
Namely, bold common name followed by bolded and italic scientific name in parentheses.

Usage
To use this, simply add
