Do we need an LTA for this?

I have encountered several instances of vandalism which seem to be the same user. They all add the same edit summary, and repeatedly add BLP violations until they are blocked. this revision of AIV contains many of these users, who are always IPs. An LTA or SPI would help these accounts get blocked and tagged quicker, as each IP usually makes only one or two edits before they switch to another IP address. Would an LTA page for Thcsphuninh2006 be a WP:DENY violation?

Lately, I've occasionally just scrolled through the blocklist when bored, and I've noticed many alts of Thcsphuninh2006 (idk the original account), and I'm wondering if we should have a page on him or if we should deny recognition. BombCraft8 (talk) (contributions) 20:56, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

TBH they're quite obviously trolling so WP:DENY should have been in order. Blake Gripling (talk) 21:32, 11 October 2025 (UTC)

Why was SGK's LTA archived?

He was active within the last 2 months of now (now as in October 24th, 2025 in my timezone.) Sanemero the Robot Prince (not really, it's a Gloryhammer reference) 17:03, 24 October 2025 (UTC)

IMHO it would be better to leave it as such than give an obvious troll a shrine for them to feel "validated". Blake Gripling (talk) 03:43, 25 October 2025 (UTC)
@Sanemero57: As the person who archived it, firstly, I don't think he ever should have gotten an LTA page to begin with as his contributions are all unambiguous vandalism - the kind that would get a user blocked quickly even if no admin encountering them knew they were evading a previous block. The usefulness of LTA only outweighs the extra attention when this isn't the case and their edits are sneaky vandalism, or could be mistaken for good-faith contributions at best or disruptive but well-intentioned ones at worst. Secondly, unless you can point to a recent vandalism spree it seems that he stopped being regularly active all the way back in 2017 and only comes back with at most a couple of accounts a year "for old time's sake". Proposal to close LTA/Judi

LTAs are mostly for people who disrupt Wikipedia through editing, but more importantly, the scope of the page has expanded beyond one single bad actor. This material could be consolidated at WP:USURPURL. Clarinetguy097 (talk) 17:51, 4 November 2025 (UTC)

DENYing: Naming LTA with numerals

Would it be a good idea if we start naming future LTAs with mechanical / robotic sequences of strings / numerals? Probably a way to diminish the incentives slightly.

(I guess this must've been discussed before, so apologies if what I'm suggesting is among the sameold-sameolds.) 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 13:20, 27 January 2026 (UTC)

There might be too many of them at this point for users to remember all the numbers. Clarinetguy097 (talk) 16:25, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
Yeah... good point... Maybe deliberately avoid their username and always assign names ourselves? A terrible nickname is probably damaging to one's imaginary grandiosity... 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 21:57, 27 January 2026 (UTC)
I think that might be a better solution for WP:DENY compliance. I skimmed through the list, and "Geraldine Edwards hoax from San Diego" also stood out to me. It doesn't look like the editor ever used that as a username, but the LTA name might still constitute recognition.
I'm also wondering whether geographic locations are relevant anymore. Clarinetguy097 (talk) 05:49, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
Deny means not sabotaging our own ability to communicate about LTAs in an effort to try and damage gradiosity. CMD (talk) 06:11, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
Are you referring to usernames or to locations? Clarinetguy097 (talk) 15:57, 28 January 2026 (UTC)
General principle, depending on the existing term editors already understand. CMD (talk) 17:33, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
LTA edit filters are already given numerical identifiers for each LTA (sometimes multiple), a few of which have been mentioned on LTA subpages (although they usually are not, probably for DENY reasons, which may warrant multiple numerical identifiers unless it gets confusing). Possible LTA

There has recently been a vandal who is repeatedly vandalizing Mario-related pages, causing pages such as Mario kart 8 to be protected. There are too many to count; examples include Special:Contributions/~2026-68444-5, Special:Contributions/~2026-42714-1, Special:Contributions/~2026-55728-8, Special:Contributions/~2026-55387-9, Special:Contributions/~2026-39179-4, Special:Contributions/~2026-37869-4, Special:Contributions/~2026-37541-6, and others. I'm wondering if this could be a reincarnation of a currently listed LTA, or deserves an LTA in its own right. Having an LTA would be useful as some of these accounts make only a few vandal edits before switching, and this vandal does not seem to be seeking publicity, so it wouldn't overly violate WP:DENY. Somepinkdude (talk) 17:32, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

These are WP:TAs and not necessarily connected. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:18, 31 January 2026 (UTC)
Compare with edits and geolocation to edits on 2026 AFL season to edits on Mario Kart 8, not saying this does deserve an LTA page but just saying that is likely the same guy. Mesocyclonic93 (t)(c) 02:14, 29 June 2026 (UTC)

Maybe LTA for User:Tren2

Should this page have a LTA for Tren2? They target mostly this page under the "25 year status" section using multiple sockpuppets either ending in a 2 (Tren2, Quadren2, Longhorn2) or starting in Tren (Tren2, Tren9, Tren12, Tren20). Sockpuppet cases: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Tren2, Category:Wikipedia sockpuppets of Tren2. The user also has been blanking lots of templates (seeSpecial:Contributions/Tren2) and mentions "the launch code" in edit summaries. User97104 (talk) 00:12, 20 February 2026 (UTC)

New LTA page created

I have created an LTA page for Timelash. Feel free to add more information to the page at WP:Long-term abuse/Timelash. Would be helpful if someone knows information about their ISP or their associated IP addresses. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 17:37, 28 April 2026 (UTC)

Under what conditions should a vandal be added here?

Per title. -- Least Action (talk) 16:14, 7 June 2026 (UTC)

It's in the title ("long-term" + "abuse"). sapphaline (talk) 13:17, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

Stale LTA cases

Should the cases which haven't been edited in 5+ years be archived? There are currently 7 of them:

  1. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Nangparbat (last edit in January 2019, last SPI report in June 2024)
  2. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Iloveartrock (last edit in August 2019, last SPI report in April 2017)
  3. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Europeanhematology (last edit in March 2020, no SPI reports)
  4. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Muhammad Samiuddin Qazi (last edit in August 2020, last SPI report in December 2020)
  5. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Nsmutte (last edit in October 2020, last SPI report in June 2025)
  6. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Martial arts vandal (last edit in February 2021, no SPI reports)
  7. Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Otto4711 (last edit in July 2021, last SPI report in March 2020)

This doesn't seem to be a page watched by many people, so pinging @Mesocyclonic93:, @Least Action:, @Prothe1st:, @User97104:, @Xeroctic:, @Redrose64:, @Chipmunkdavis:, @Somepinkdude:, @Clarinetguy097:, @IrisChronomia: as users who edited this page in the last 6 months. sapphaline (talk) 13:17, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

I will take a look. Also note that some users get blocked as socks even without an SPI report for a long time. So it's still possible some of these LTAs may still be active. --Prothe1st (leave me a message)-- 13:50, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
It's usually worth pinging editors who have made significant edits to those pages (not necessarily this one). I'd be surprised if Nangparbat was gone - I see their SPI was edited up to two years ago - another thing to check. -- zzuuzz (talk) 14:04, 10 July 2026 (UTC)
LTA pages don't have to be updated every time a new sock is found. The relevant SPI is the timing to watch for, if available. The items above with 2024 and 2025 SPIs for example are probably not stale. CMD (talk) 14:30, 10 July 2026 (UTC)

Can (is) Higstudios3333 be considered an LTA?

Hello, not sure if I'm in the right place but TAs and users supposedly "claiming" to be Higstudios3333 (talk · contribs) appeared both in my talk page and naturally at Special:Log. No sockpuppet category exists for this guy so I'm not sure if it would be appropriate to create an LTA page for Higstudios given that the user was blocked just 44 days ago. SimpleObjects-9ei 🏖️/☀️/🥵 (see talk) 21:40, 2 August 2026 (UTC)

There's not much point in creating an LTA page, it's unambiguous vandalism. Tenshi! (Talk page) 22:01, 2 August 2026 (UTC)
@Tenshi Hinanawi I still have no idea if we should create an LTA page for this guy, several TAs and new accounts (which are likely sockpuppets of Higstudios) keep G10 blanking my user talk page and a bunch more stuff targeting AmandaNP. SimpleObjects-9ei 🏖️/☀️/🥵 (see talk) 19:13, 11 August 2026 (UTC)
LTA pages should only be created in cases where there is at least some chance that other users might mistake them for a good-faith user. Higstudios, as far as I know, has always been a fairly blatant vandal, and is usually blocked within minutes of account creation. Per WP:DENY, we also don't tag their user page nor the user pages for any of their socks. Spiderone(Talk to Spider) 16:21, 12 September 2026 (UTC)
