Articles wanted

I think we've all noticed the (unsurprising) recent proliferation in new articles that quickly get AFD'd or merged. Meanwhile, there are still articles that have not yet been written but would easily pass GNG as stand-alones. I thought for editors who are interested in making new articles in this topic area, it might be useful to gather some redlinks and greenlinks to turn blue. Here are my suggestions (and GScholar searches for convenience):

Other suggestions welcome, unless this was the wrong place to post this, in which case, sorry! Levivich (talk) 07:55, 4 February 2024 (UTC)

depopulated Palestinian villages

Hello, the entries mentioned in List of towns and villages depopulated during the 1947–1949 Palestine war, List of villages depopulated during the Arab–Israeli conflict and Category:Villages depopulated during the Arab–Israeli conflict and other articles also in other languages do not have unified/appropriate properties in wikidata, about 20 out of the 600~ depopulated villages are clearly marked as such in wikidata, others are left as instances of "human settelment", "village" or "former human settlement", and with inconsistent (or non-existing property for) location, country ...etc, and a few have the properties relating to the timeframe of their depopulation. wikidata is still lacking/behind in some "technical" level such as describing the former population. But those still require consistency and inclusion of missing properties.

Adding apropriatly consistent properties to the remaining hundreds of items as this is disregarded/underacknowledged information is vital for any general attempt for reflection/contextualization that is genuine. Uwe a (talk) 12:40, 11 May 2024 (UTC)

Writing about the 69 destroyed cultural heritage in Gaza

At Destruction of cultural heritage during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip#List of sites, we have a table based on a UNESCO list published 5 days ago, showing the 69 main cultural sites destroyed in Gaza. Many do not yet have articles about them.

Please help in creating articles about these destroyed sites.

Referring to Member statements section

The red field in the WikiProject's header says: "This project page can be edited by all members. To become a member, please write a short message in the Member statements section" but the Member statements were removed to Archive. Maybe someone more experienced can remove that sentence and then remove this discussion topic ~ VanderlekD (talk) 10:27, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi. Where are the member statements in the archive? Can you post the link here? Thanks, HG1 | Talk 15:28, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Reference to Nakba missing in description of Israeli settlement history

Note: Decisions on this topic affect all pages about Israeli settlements

On this page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kfar_Chabad about an Israeli settlement established in 1949, I noticed that there is no mention of destroying a Palestinian settlement or expelling people. The only reference is that it was a "depopulated" Palestinian village. By not mentioning the circumstances surrounding the establishment of the settlement but mentioning the "Terrorist attack on the vocational school" the story becomes one-sided.

My suggestion is to add at least one sentence about the Nakba, referring to the Nakba page. This probably applies to most pages about Israeli municipalities/settlements. To avoid having to create a specific description for each municipality/settlement, my suggestion is to use this generic sentence if possible: "During the Nakba, Zionist militias forcibly expelled about half of the inhabitants of Palestine from their homes." Discussion on Friendly Fire in the Gaza War

Friendly fire during the Gaza war has been proposed for deletion, following a dramatic edit which I've reversed for now. Various editors have tried to start a discussion on the future of the page but have not been noticed by active editors.

I've called for a discussion on the talk page here, please let us know your views.

The ongoing deletion discussion is at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Friendly fire during the Gaza war, I am proposing that an AfD be postponed until more editors have engaged. 20WattSphere (talk) 02:30, 8 June 2025 (UTC)

more eyes needed on James Ossuary

Yes, I know most editors in the IP-area are overstretched, but if you can, spare a moment on the James Ossuary. Lots of rather questionable so-called "scholars" regularly added by ...non-established wp-editors (to put it diplomatically). Huldra (talk) 23:33, 10 June 2025 (UTC)

Mandatory Palestine

On Wikipedia, every mention of Palestine pre-1948 always has the adjective "Mandatory" patched in front of it, from the British Mandate for Palestine. In practice, the territory was called "Palestine" more often than anything else. I don't remember ever reading "Mandatory Palestine" outside of Wikipedia, and my gut feeling tells me it's a WikiNeologism meant to avoid rawly casting the spell "Palestine".

Is "Mandatory Palestine" attested outside of Wikipedia and its distributaries? Google ngram shows that its usage exploded in the 2010s, perhaps fueled by this site. Shoshin000 (talk) 18:14, 11 January 2026 (UTC)

List of Israeli museums -> List of museums in Israel

The article has been moved. The article is 'an incomplete list of Israeli museums, some of which are located in East Jerusalem.' Referring to things beyond the green line as 'in Israel' is obviously inconsistent with NPOV. I notified the mover, but I think their primary interest is probably cross-article consistency. They noted the existence of List of museums in Palestine, which may be pertinent to discussions/solutions. Sean.hoyland (talk) 13:20, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

@Sean.hoyland: Basing the list around a country is fairly typical, but I can see why it would be difficult here. Is it worth sticking with the new title for consistency and removing museums beyond the green line? Or at least putting them in a new section? Richard Nevell (talk) 21:35, 16 January 2026 (UTC)

I restored the original name. The move was done without discussion. --Supreme Deliciousness (talk) 21:46, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

Requested move at Palestinian genocide accusation

Template:Infobox Israel village for locations outside of Israel

  • Template:Infobox Israel village and redirects to that template are used for over a thousand locations.
  • The template source includes | subdivision_name = {{if empty|{{{country|}}}|Israel}}. This means - if the country parameter is empty, use Israel as the default value, otherwise use the value of country specified.
  • Since the vast majority of pages that use this template are for locations in Israel, the empty parameter handling and default value of Israel makes sense. Where a value for country has been included it looks like is often {{ISR}}.
  • For the relatively small number of cases where this template has been used for locations outside of Israel, Israeli settlements and outposts in the Israeli occupied territories, the default value does not make sense because it generates 100+ unambiguous NPOV policy violations, stating (in unattributed wikivoice) that a location in Palestine is in Israel for example. This results from the country parameter being left empty for these kinds of locations outside of Israel. I don't know the background to that somewhat puzzling decision to not just say where the location is using the ISO name of the country or something similar. Locations in the West Bank are in the West Bank, and the West Bank is in Palestine. There is nothing complicated or controversial about this spatial relationship from Wikipedia's perspective. It is an easily verified objective fact about the spatial relationships of spatial objects. It seems that previous versions of the template did not default to Israel as the country, now it does, and that seems reasonable given the usage statistics and template usage notes.
  • Given that the template usage notes say "This template is meant for villages in Israel. For settlements that are not in Israel, use {{Infobox settlement}}." and "country (optional): defaults to "Israel" if no value is provided. For settlements outside of Israel, use {{Infobox settlement}}, or use |country= with a different value." you can ask - 'why is Template:Infobox Israel village used rather than Template:Infobox settlement'? An answer can be found in Template_talk:Infobox_Israel_village#Purpose_of_the_template from Courtesy ping: Number 57.
    • This is a wrapper of Infobox settlement, and is used to make it more convenient to add Israel-specific information (like district, regional council, settlement movement etc). For example, if you were to use Infobox settlement, you'd have to use the parameters subdivision_type, subdivision_type1, subdivision_type2, subdivision_type3, subdivision_type4 etc. The wrapper (this template) automatically fills these in with Israel-specific subdivisions and creates Israel-specific parameters (district, council etc).
  • Even if you find this explanation unpersuasive, switching over to Infobox settlement for all of the Israeli settlements and outposts appears to be a bit of non-trivial exercise. If someone wants to volunteer to do that, that would be great.
  • In the meantime I have taken the bold step of retaining the template usage so that Israel-specific information can be retained and following the "or use |country= with a different value." template instructions by replacing empty country parameters with Palestine (without a flag) for locations in the West Bank that use this template. An alternative approach would be to follow the example of the locations in Israel and use the {{PSE}} standard three letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country code for Palestine. Replacing empty country parameters with Palestine (without a flag) for locations in the West Bank, in my view, is a more sensible, standard, policy compliant solution than retaining the NPOV policy violations of placing locations in the wrong country or reverting the template to a previous version that weirdly, for a rules-based encyclopedia, appears to go out of its way to avoid telling readers the country that contains the populated location. The updates do not impact pages about settlements that don't use this template e.g. Israeli settlements in East Jerusalem and many others. The updates obviously do not address locations in the Golan Heights.
  • I understand that there may be editors who don't think this is the best solution. They are welcome to explain their reasoning and propose solutions that are consistent with our purpose and the rules. An RfC is one way to find a multi-article solution and resolve disagreements.

Sean.hoyland (talk) 10:12, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

  • The problem was that someone (who has made multiple problematic edits to widely used templates) edited the template code late last year, which resulted in 'Israel' always appearing as the country (which did not previously happen as you are correct that it is an NPOV violation). I have now fixed this error, so there shouldn't be an issue with using this template for settlements. Number 57 15:16, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
