The result of the move request was: Moved - WP:SNOW move with agreement from article creator. (closed by non-admin page mover) ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 00:13, 15 May 2024 (UTC)
Cait Sith → Cait Sith (Final Fantasy) – A simple capitalization change is not enough to differentiate this fictional character from the mythological creature, especially when various places use capital letters for the mythological creature's name, like this blog and this blog. The primary topic should be the mythological being per longterm significance. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:15, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- Another note - Cait Sith (Final Fantasy) appears to have been the main place for this article before a new one was started here. An immediate history merge is in order after the move is complete. Or perhaps only the page's 2024 edits can be moved. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:21, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
*Oppose The mythological creature's name is spelled specifically different, even in the blogs you link to. The cat-sìth article itself doesn't list Cait Sith as an alternative spelling for the name. Googling "Cait Sith" predominantly turns up the Final Fantasy character, with the Cat-sith wikipedia article only appearing because *this* used to be a redirect to there (which would be a case of circular logic). Even publication work from Square themselves states the name is based off cat-sìth. It'd be hard to even argue this is a Japanese adaptation of that name in that context.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:27, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- I found further usage of the upper-case spelling in an actual book, and not talking about the Final Fantasy version. It may very well be wrong - I'm not an expert in Gaelic - but the potential for WP:SURPRISE appears to be high. I normally advocate for WP:SMALLDETAILS but in this case it's simply too close. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 18:36, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- I feel there's a distinction here, especially considering even the pronunciation of the name is not treated the same to the point it's heavily debated (example ).--Kung Fu Man (talk) 18:44, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: on closer examination it does appear your point is valid: googling the Japanese name does turn up interpretations of the fairy cat with a similar design (i.e. Pixiv). If you're fine with closing it, I can migrate my work over to that article and fix all the redirects/wikidata right quick.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 19:44, 13 May 2024 (UTC)
- I would normally be, but now you raised the issue of it being moved to an even more precise name, complicating things. Would you be fine with it being moved to the (Final Fantasy) disambiguation for the time being while that issue is figured out? ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 23:14, 14 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Zxcvbnm: That works for me.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 23:21, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

- Comment Left a note on Zx's talk page, but suggesting this be moved to Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII) instead, as it's not the only major Cait Sith in the franchise it seems (the Final Fantasy XI Cait Sith apparently has seen some promotion from Square Enix too, and is a very different character). If we go that route, making Cait Sith into a disambig feels the best route, as it can point at this article, Final Fantasy XI, and the fairy article, and leaves room if any other Japanese interpretations stand out.--Kung Fu Man (talk) 12:44, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Cait Sith (Final Fantasy) → Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII) – I propose moving this article to a more specific title (Final Fantasy VII) due to the fact that there are multiple different characters in the Final Fantasy series named Cait Sith. The current title, which just refers to the Final Fantasy series as a whole, has the potential to create confusion. For example, I just removed a wiki link to this article from Final Fantasy XI because this article covers the FFVII Cait Sith, who is an entirely different character than the FFXI Cait Sith. Whoever inserted the wiki link on Final Fantasy XI was likely confused by this article's current title. Therefore, I think that renaming the article to "Cait Sith (Final Fantasy VII)" will more accurately reflect the subject of the article, and therefore reduce confusion amongst the different characters named Cait Sith across the series. - Oppose. Disambiguators don't need to include every single detail. This is especially true since FF14 has various callback fanservice characters with the same name. If and when there is a separately notable article on FF11 Cait Sith (unlikely), we can add further disambiguation to clarify, but it's overkill for now. See Garnet (Final Fantasy), etc. SnowFire (talk) 13:43, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose It's also in FF7 Rebirth etc. which are not nearly the same thing as FF7 original. If an article were made on the recurring Cait Sith character from numerous games then I think some sort of move would be needed, but no such article exists yet. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 15:33, 18 July 2025 (UTC)
- Note: WikiProject Fictional characters, WikiProject Video games/Video game characters, WikiProject Video games, and WikiProject Square Enix have been notified of this discussion. TarnishedPathtalk 14:51, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose per both of the above. The other Cait Sith almost certainly will never get a stand-alone article, and is definitely the primary topic in the world of "Final Fantasy Cat Siths". Sergecross73 msg me 15:28, 24 July 2025 (UTC)
