Train image

@JacktheBrown: The image is supposed to represent dangerous crossing, that being what the section is about, that being different and dangerous routes immigrants often use. The image shows people from Central America migrating to Mexico via train hopping. So representative of the section. Des Vallee (talk) 19:13, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

Overstaying a visa

There are articles about Illegal entry and Visa fraud, but no article on Overstaying a visa. This strikes me as a notable omission or oversight. Bohemian Baltimore (talk) 01:38, 5 September 2025 (UTC)

Probably oversight.  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2025-35403-10 (talk) 19:13, 21 November 2025 (UTC)

Change to Less charged alternative

In regards to the term - "illegal immigration". Its use may conflict with WP:NPOV as it implicitly frames it as criminality. Which is imprecise as many immigration violations are merely civil, not criminal throughout modern history. Ie, Visa overstays are typically civil violations, not "crimes" that ever get a criminal conviction.. So arguably undocumented or unauthorised migrants are better alternative as it at least doesn't imply criminality or someone convicted in court but still does point out they don't have explicit legal papers or permission from that country to be there. It describe legal status without implying criminality. Btw prominent mainstream media and legal academic sources have already stopped using that term, and so Wikipedia should follow eventually JaredMcKenzie (talk) 01:23, 26 December 2025 (UTC)

Don't manipulate the discussion: "illegal" simply means 'not legal'; it doesn't refer to illegal immigrants, but to their status regarding entry into a country (for example, in Milan there are many illegal immigrants, crime in Milan has increased significantly because of them; if you want, I can provide you with all the statistics and data).  Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-17036-8 (talk) 22:08, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
I agree with @JaredMcKenzie. The term "Illegal" carries with it the connotation of a crime being committed. There is an alternative term, "Unlawful", which is used in some countries to describe exactly the same situation, but without the criminal connotation. The article, itself, has an interesting discussion about the alternative terminology that is used. So I think it is legitimate to raise the question about whether the term "illegal" conflicts with the policy outlined atWP:NPOV. I don't see it as trying to "manipulate the discussion", I see it as a legitimate concern about the use of neutral terminology. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 23:04, 8 January 2026 (UTC)
I am in agreement with @Cameron Dewe and @JaredMcKenzie about issues with the NPOV of this article. Perhaps a merge into Immigration Law is appropriate? Or a redirecting to an unused "Unauthorized Immigration" name would be more appropriate under NPOV? Edittttor (talk) 09:33, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
