Arbitration

  • Due to the result of a recent motion, a rough consensus of administrators at the arbitration enforcement noticeboard may impose an expanded topic ban on Israel, Israelis, Jews, Judaism, Palestine, Palestinians, Islam, and/or Arabs, if an editor's Arab-Israeli conflict topic ban is determined to be insufficient to prevent disruption. At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

Appeasement

At the ANI page about the Nazi, you mentioned having never seen that image (I'm assuming the lead one). It's actually not from the Munich Conference, as some might assume. It's from the page of Godesberg Memorandum, where H---er issued an ultimatum to Chamberlain over the Czech lands, which then led to the Munich Conference. Of course, appeasement totally worked. Revert of a likely mistake

Hello! I've reverted this, where I believe you accidentally restored personal attacks instead of removing them. lp0 on fire () 11:09, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

OMG! I'm so sorry, I think what happened is that I tried to revert right as someone else reverted it, and I ended up reverting their edit in error. Thanks for letting me know! (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 12:07, 25 February 2026 (UTC)
Hello, no problem! I don't think that's quite what happened (It was added before TAs were introduced); I think what happened is that someone used a misleading edit summary for a valid removal, and you got confused. I'll admit I was confused by it as well for a moment. lp0 on fire () 12:10, 25 February 2026 (UTC)

Hello. I see you're participating in the MAR26 event. I've recently reviewed edits of yours and I've noticed that in your MAR26 edits, some of them have been completed in February, before the event even started. Another time, you implemented a citation using the MAR26 edit description when there already were citations. Due to the rules, I also had to not accept this edit. Therefore, I encourage you to re-review the rules of the event. Hacked (Talk|Contribs) 16:11, 4 March 2026 (UTC)

Boomerang episode

This one. Started with a complaint over (correct) reversions; an unrelated editor flew off the handle for some reason - a bit like our situation - but then apologized. After they did so OP continued to rant and cast aspersions at both that editor and the first they complained about (and attacked an admin), then mirrored the same behavior they were complaining about from the third party...Very messy and the boom rang hard. Nearly caught a CBAN. ChompyTheGogoat (talk) 21:22, 5 March 2026 (UTC)

Hooked

I was wondering what you meant by "thin and contained" just now but, now I've read your user page, I'm supposing that it's firefighting jargon, meaning a fire that is well under control, right?

And I find that we have something in common and that's a good billhook. I've been wanting one for a while and was able to get one from the Museum of Rural Life which has a great collection of vintage tools. They were selling off some of their spares last year and so I bought a billhook, brush hook and a sickle. Below is a picture of the billhook. It was made by William Hunt and Sons and the blade is 10 inches long. What I especially like is that the handle is quite long so the overall length is two feet and so it can be used two-handed, if needed.

I've cleaned it up and oiled it with linseed but haven't tried serious sharpening yet as I'm not quite sure of the technique and don't want to spoil the blade. Do you have any tips, please?

Andrew🐉(talk) 19:33, 13 March 2026 (UTC)

I'll try to dig up some advice! By thin and contained I just meant that the margins were getting very small on the textboxes, sorry. I have notes about it that I can get to you when I get home today. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 12:59, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Oh my god I'm so sorry! Seeing your image here it would appear we do not have the same kind. I have an English bill, and not an agriciultural bill. Yours is still really nice, though. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 13:03, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Ah, you have a bill (weapon). They are not really different as they are essentially the same tool but the military version was more of a polearm while the billhooks used for hedge-laying are more often made for one-handed use. I wanted something suitable for clearing brush and brambles. Andrew🐉(talk) 13:35, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
I have a billhook more so for my interest in HEMA and similar fencing sports. It's still interesting to see the differences and to share an appreciation for a beautiful tool. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 13:38, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Is the blade of yours bright or black? Mine has a dark patina as it would come from the forge which I gather is preferred by collectors. But military versions made for the nobles would be more likely to be polished bright. Andrew🐉(talk) 13:54, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
Mine is not historical, unfortunately, but it does also have a nice black coloration much like the one in the image you provided. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 14:11, 16 March 2026 (UTC)
I know this is old discussion but while on the topic, I've bagged myself a Macuahuitl. They're pretty neat-o and I figured you would be interested. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 13:02, 3 April 2026 (UTC)

I would focus on editing rather than awarding barnstars. voorts (talk/contributions) 17:54, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Keep in mind many of us have several admin talk pages on our watchlist so when you do something like this, we get several watchlist updates. Not the worst thing in the world and I am sure you did it in AGF but looking at your stats, you seem to spend much more time at ANI (the worst place to spend time), Village Pump and other places rather than in article space so I have to agree with vroots. Focus on improving the encyclopedia rather than notice boards and the like. S0091 (talk) 19:32, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Thanks! Most of the stuff I do in article space is anti-vandalism and pending changes, so it makes sense it would look scarce. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 19:34, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Think of it thus way. A personalised barnstar gives the recipient a buzz. A mass-generated one must be as meh! as a corporate Christmas card.
If you want to show off your medals - I can't remember where I got it from, but if you look into my user page you'll find the code for something called a barnometer. Best, Narky Blert (talk) 20:01, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Anti-vandalism is in article space so if that is your focus, you should have tons of edits in article space and AIV. You have little in article space and 7 edits to AIV, while you have 95 at ANI so, no, that does not explain it. S0091 (talk) 20:01, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Then most is pending changes, I'd presume. Either that or I'm too lazy. Either way, will return to editing articles more. There are very few fires in recent memory so I've probably missed some and will have to go back and edit those, for sure. Last one I remember was cranz-montana. The Random Acts of Kindness Barnstar
For your well-meant intent to brighten the day of active admins everywhere! - jc37 21:04, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

After finding that discussion in your user history, and reading it and your responses, and finding out your intent, I think you deserve one of these yourself. I think that was a nice thing to do. I hope everyone in that discussion who didn't receive one (including closer), subsequently received one as well. Thank you, and I hope you're having a great day. - jc37 21:04, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

Thank you so much! You're very kind, I feel honestly so stupid but it's a learning moment. I'm not sure how everyone else would end up recieving one, but it is very, very kind of you to give me this. I promise next time I'll use better methods and be more conscious of the outcomes of my decisions. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 21:07, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
I understand why they asked you to stop, but I still think it was a nice idea, thoughtful, and a nice thing to do. As for the other admins, if you're so inclined, I don't think it would be an issue if you went ahead and shared one with each of those who commented, who didn't receive one. Adminship is a largely thankless task of responsibilities that all too often garners more negativity than positivity. And any chance to brighten their day should be embraced. Thank you again.- jc37 21:11, 26 March 2026 (UTC)

Continuing something EEng said...

Like the video I saw on the social media app that shall not be named (r), don't set your foot on fire. Unless you want to lose weight. Credit to @EEng for originally saying 🚂ThatTrainGuy1945 Peep peep! 02:12, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

What video? Why would I set my foot on fire? What's that got to do with weight loss? Please explain, I am so curious. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 03:32, 17 April 2026 (UTC)

I think it's one of the riddles the sphynx gives you before you are allowed to pass? (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 11:21, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
I am not a sphynx, but what I will say is that it was a Reddit video of a kid (in China) setting his foot on fire and then failing to put it out. Like how EEng said "Don't shoot yourself in the foot", I meant "set your foot on fire either", and since your name is "Phlogiston Enthusiast, well"...
I apologize for the awful humor though. I'll get better.
@MEN KISSING@Phlogiston Enthusiast 🚂ThatTrainGuy1945 Peep peep! 11:27, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
No worries! My username is actually that for a reason. I'm suffering from pyromania and more importantly I'm just interested in fires. Funny enough, I have a similar story to this! I accidentally tossed my shoe into a campfire as a kid, and I almost burned my leg going to get it. Thankfully, my mother prevented me from doing that. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 11:53, 17 April 2026 (UTC)
You know, I've always wanted to ask: your username is Phlogiston Enthusiast, do you have any particular thoughts on the actual historical theory of phlogiston? MEN KISSING (she/they) Talk to me, I don't bite! - See my edits 05:50, 18 April 2026 (UTC)
It's really interesting, I think. It was definitely somewhat more advanced than most theories of the time, and, despite being wrong, it most definitely influenced some correct theories down the line. I have a similar question about your username... XD. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 01:27, 20 April 2026 (UTC)
Hehehe, I do have quite a positive opinion on men kissing, in large part because I'm an advocate for the acceptance of gay men in society. That, and I figured the name "MEN KISSING" would make a lot of folks laugh. And I was right! The reception has been overwhelmingly positive. What? I don't get what you're saying.

Question from Joscovit (17:55, 27 April 2026)

Can I also post on JFK matters, if legal and confidential? --Joscovit (talk) 17:55, 27 April 2026 (UTC)

What do you mean? If you mean you are trying to add information to the article John Fitzgerald Kennedy, we need a reliable source that can be accessed and verified. If the source has a restriction other than a paywall, it's unlikely to be acceptable. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 18:18, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
But I lived it, know it, know the confidential sides. Too bad, but I will defer. Do not want a RICO act assessed however. Bona fide data. IMO. Joscovit (talk) 18:24, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
If you cannot provide a verifiable source, don't add the information. Thanks. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 18:44, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
But you fail to see the question. You do not understand that I AM THE SOURCE. Period. Maybe two or three others, but many dead. You do not seem to understand. You cannot outsource my source base. I demand fair and equal treatment in these matters as a source. Sorry. Please rethink your thoughts. I can provide the data, and I am mostly the source, few if any collaborators. I can
testify under oath by affidavit. Some I lived through, some I discovered, some I researched, some I reported to others. Was also at DOD & NARA. I do not invent source data. You must double check any data I furnish on JFK matters. But do not ipso facto challenge me as a reliable or semi-reliable source. That is not fair or productive. I can only tell what I factually know. I would not furnish guesses or gossip or estimates or speculations. I assure you. (JS) Joscovit (talk) 19:00, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
You would need to provide a link to a source that can be proven true. If there is no link, or no way to prove it is true, it cannot be added. Sorry. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 20:23, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
I will be careful, wait and see. I can only tell what I know to be 99% true. Most of my items can be cross referenced with other data/page sources but not always by other humans. Most
are dead. Sorry. Joscovit (talk) 20:39, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Hi, Joscovit,
Wikipedia would consider that to be Original Research, which is not considered a usable source. all information presented in articles must be verifiable. unfortunately, you as a source directly, does not meet that requirement. it would have to be published, and preferably as a secondary source. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 20:37, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Not all meets that criteria. Sole source may need affidavit or may be in need of pardon, and must guard against any RICO act charges. Must be careful but factual. Facts ARE facts.
If a prime source cannot be adequately sourced as source, then what is the reason for WIKI? That means I would be censored and always discounted as a Cassandra from myth. NOT TRUE. Joscovit (talk) 20:44, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
the wiki is a tertiary source. unfortunately, if the information cannot be verified, it cannot be included. we do not profess to be a source of truth, only a source of verifiable information. perhaps there is another venue that might be more appropriate for such information? -- Aunva6talk - contribs 21:01, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
Yes, agreed. But that is in a private setting or agency setting before a hearing, deposition, affidavitizing, etc. As I said, I will be careful as to what I can/cannot contribute. Joscovit (talk) 21:06, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
realistically, I think Wikipedia is not the place for the kind of information you are trying to provide. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 21:26, 27 April 2026 (UTC)
But history and historical trivia annd historical review should be part of Wiki, at all costs, in all venues. Suppression and censorship is to be rejected. Free flow od data is always necessary. I will be careful and factual in any item I post on JFK matters. Thank you. Joscovit (talk) 01:07, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
I'm gonna level with you: I neither believe nor understand whatever it is that you're saying and you refuse to listen to the advice or the rules. I HEAVILY suggest that you stay away from that article and subject matter. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 12:41, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
If needed maybe. No censorship promises. We shall see. Amen. I AM AN ORIGINAL SOURCE, on that matter. (JS) Joscovit (talk) 16:55, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
That's not how that works. Please read WP:V. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 17:17, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Understood of course. As needed. But you (whomever anon critic) can also verify my fed govt employment with DOD/DOW and NARA and collateral knowledge and interface on the subject matter. Give it a try. Dare ya. Thanks much, anon. Someone should try to verify your status too, ANON. Bye. No more games on credentials, please. (JS) Joscovit (talk) 18:53, 28 April 2026 (UTC)
Dude. That's not how ANY OF THIS WORKS. Also, legal threats are cause for a block. (Talk) PHLOGISTON ENTHUSIAST 13:36, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
No threats. No comment, "DUDE." ~2026-26302-85 (talk) 22:40, 29 April 2026 (UTC)

I've deleted it. "I'm not in any trouble, yeah?" None at all. I also dropped by to say thanks. Test pages are just deleted after tests (a lot of templates have deleted subpages). Rjjiii (talk) 17:47, 29 April 2026 (UTC)
