Prachantakhiri Khet Province

Could someone take a look at the newly created but almost entirely unsourced Prachantakhiri Khet Province? Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 16:31, 26 January 2025 (UTC)

It's poorly translated from an original that's rather unfocused and overlaps content better covered elsewhere, but the topic is easily verifiable. There don't seem to be many sources that make in-depth mention beyond a historical footnote, though, so at best, with the irrelevant content trimmed out, this would be a two-paragraph perma-stub. I've renamed the article to Prachan Khiri Khet, which reflects the intended pronunciation and the fact that it wasn't actually a province, as its existence predated the provincial administration system. --Paul_012 (talk) 01:17, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

Populations and other demographics

Is there a reasonably recent RS for Thai populations? All the best: Rich Farmbrough 12:17, 13 February 2025 (UTC).

The overdue national census was supposed to take place in 2020, but was called off due to the pandemic. It's now scheduled to begin this April. Other than the census, the only available figures that aren't estimates are from the population registry, which does not reflect actual residency due to internal migration. --Paul_012 (talk) 19:41, 16 February 2025 (UTC)

The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle
The Developing Countries WikiContest Gold Belt Buckle

WikiProject Thailand, the Developing Countries WikiContest will be returning for a second year, and sign-ups are now open! The contest will run from 1 July to 30 September, and the objective remains the same: improve as many articles relating to developing countries as you can to help fight systemic bias on Wikipedia.

In other news, we have a new face on the coordinator team this year: last year's sixth-place finisher, Arconning (talk · contribs)! The coordinators would like to extend a sincere thanks to Ixtal (talk · contribs), who is leaving the team, without whom the contest would not exist. After feedback from contestants last year, the scoring rules are undergoing some modifications; the new rules and a summary of the changes made will be posted to the contest talk page shortly.

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the contest talk page, use the {{@DCWC coordinators}} template, or contact one of the coordinators: Arconning (talk · contribs), sawyer777 (talk · contribs), or TechnoSquirrel69 (talk · contribs). Chaiya railway station

Can somebody please translate the Thai language article into English? Thank you in advance. Bearian (talk) 01:33, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

There currently isn't an article about the station on the Thai Wikipedia, as the linked page redirects to the equivalent of List of Southern Line (Thailand) stations. Expansion will probably have to come from elsewhere. --Paul_012 (talk) 10:55, 10 August 2025 (UTC)

On surnames and nicknames

Hello everyone! I have been cleaning up a bit of the Thai biographies and I just want to ask something about surnames and nicknames. I know the Thai naming convention is first name + surname and public figures usually have a nickname. I just noticed that instead of being referred to by their surnames in the page's body, a lot of the biographies refer to them by their nicknames. Even biographies by politicians refer to them by their first names / nicknames in the bodies which is unlike the convention (i.e. surname) used in biographies. Is there a special rule about Thai bios regarding this? Kuragehime ଳ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ 06:03, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

The usual convention, including formal contexts, is to refer to Thai people by given name. See MOS:GIVENNAME. Nicknames might be commonly used by sources in some areas, e.g. newspaper headlines and the entertainment industry, but I'd say sticking to given names would be more appropriate for the formal tone of Wikipedia. --Paul_012 (talk) 13:36, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
This is noted. Thank you very much! Kuragehime ଳ⋆.ೃ࿔*:・ 13:43, 11 August 2025 (UTC)

Assawongrat Assarangchai

Draft:Assawongrat Assarangchai is about a young person who appears may be notable, but the author (who to complicate matters is the subject; using AfC in good faith, as we require for a properly-declared COI) is having trouble showing notability. Perhaps someone who speaks the language can assist, either by finding additional sources or commenting on the notability shown by those already used?

There is some prior discussion at Wikipedia:Teahouse#My draft keeps getting declined. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:09, 18 August 2025 (UTC)

I hate to say this but I'm not seeing that there's much good news with Thailand lately.

  1. 2025 Thai political crisis
  2. 2025 Cambodia–Thailand border conflict

While that alone makes me already feel uneasy irl, coverage of Thailand-related articles on Wikipedia doesn't make me feel much better:

  1. Or Tor Kor Market shooting got nominated to AfD
  2. Impact Muang Thong Thani MRT station and Lake Muang Thong Thani MRT station got converted into a redirect without a proper assessment in regard to notability of all MRT (Bangkok) articles.
  3. ALL Cambodian and Thai sources are treated with exact same reliability on 2025 Cambodia–Thailand border conflict

As I'm not confident that my edits about Thailand articles on English Wikipedia will last. I think it's better for my mental health to quit just the Thai part. I will still be editing Wikipedia but under a different username as I can't be bothered to look at my past Wikipedia contributions filled with Thailand-related stuff anymore.

Lastly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all of those that has contributed to WikiProject Thailand, especially @Paul_012 for doing numerous work in English Wikipedia as a whole.

Farewell

🐲Jothefiredragon🔥talk🧨contributionslog🐉 18:05, 22 August 2025 (UTC)

I'm sorry that this has happened. Bearian (talk) 21:40, 22 August 2025 (UTC)
I'm sorry to hear. Editing topics that receive a lot of attention can be emotionally draining, so feeling burned out isn't unusual. Do take a break when you need to, and remember to prioritise your mental health; editing Wikipedia should not feel like a job.
Ultimately, we all have to learn at some point to make peace with the fact that it's the nature of the project that not all of our contributions will last. Sometimes improvements will necessitate replacing older material. Sometimes changes will be made for the worse. In the end, none of us have infinite time and energy to expend, so we'll just have to let it go sometimes (or most times). Hopefully, things will sort themselves out in the long run, as they tend to. Don't worry about leaving, whether temporarily or indefinitely. Things will still be here if you ever decide to come back in the future. Until then, best of luck, and thanks for your contributions. --Paul_012 (talk) 03:50, 24 August 2025 (UTC)
@Paul 012 @Bearian Thank you very much for your concerns. I was going through something irl so when something (relatively minor) occurred on the English Wikipedia I incorrectly assumed that things are in danger. As for my irl matter, I was getting a therapy so it's better now. Again, thank you very much.
Cordially yours

There is a proposal to change the default wording on the banners to say "priority" instead of "importance". This could affect the template for your group. Assessment request for Suphan Buri fireworks explosion

Hello, i recently created the page Suphan Buri fireworks explosion a few months ago and would really appreciate if someone here could assess it for quality class and importance considering i'm a new editor. Done. FYI, your dates aren't consistent. You have dmy format in body and infobox and mdy format in refs. They need to be consistent. you can put {{Use mdy dates|date=December 2025}} or {{Use dmy dates|date=December 2025}} at the top of the article and it will format the ones in template for you but you will need to manually fix the ones in the body and infobox. Both are still unreviewed. As a connected editor I will not edit the article myself, so I would be grateful if an uninvolved editor with an interest in Thai topics could take a look when time allows.
