Guide to temporary accounts
Hello, CambridgeBayWeather. This message is being sent to remind you of significant upcoming changes regarding logged-out editing.
Starting 4 November, logged-out editors will no longer have their IP address publicly displayed. Instead, they will have a temporary account (TA) associated with their edits. Users with some extended rights like administrators and CheckUsers, as well as users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will still be able to reveal temporary users' IP addresses and all contributions made by temporary accounts from a specific IP address or range.
How do temporary accounts work?
- When a logged-out user completes an edit or a logged action for the first time, a cookie will be set in this user's browser and a temporary account tied with this cookie will be automatically created for them. This account's name will follow the pattern:
~2025-12345-67(a tilde, year of creation, a number split into units of 5). - All subsequent actions by the temporary account user will be attributed to this username. The cookie will expire 90 days after its creation. As long as it exists, all edits made from this device will be attributed to this temporary account. It will be the same account even if the IP address changes, unless the user clears their cookies or uses a different device or web browser.
- A record of the IP address used at the time of each edit will be stored for 90 days after the edit. Users with the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right will be able to see the underlying IP addresses.
- As a measure against vandalism, there are two limitations on the creation of temporary accounts:
- There has to be a minimum of 10 minutes between subsequent temporary account creations from the same IP (or /64 range in case of IPv6).
- There can be a maximum of 6 temporary accounts created from an IP (or /64 range) within a period of 24 hours.
Temporary account IP viewer user right
- Administrators may grant the temporary account IP viewer (TAIV) user right to non-administrators who meet the criteria for granting. Importantly, an editor must make an explicit request for the permission (e.g. at WP:PERM/TAIV)—administrators are not permitted to assign the right without a request.
- Administrators will automatically be able to see temporary account IP information once they have accepted the Access to Temporary Account IP Addresses Policy via Special:Preferences or via the onboarding dialog which comes up after temporary accounts are deployed.
Impact for administrators
- It will be possible to block many abusers by just blocking their temporary accounts. A blocked person won't be able to create new temporary accounts quickly if the admin selects the autoblock option.
- It will still be possible to block an IP address or IP range.
- Temporary accounts will not be retroactively applied to contributions made before the deployment. On Special:Contributions, you will be able to see existing IP user contributions, but not new contributions made by temporary accounts on that IP address. Instead, you should use Special:IPContributions for this (see a video about IPContributions in a gallery below).
Rules about IP information disclosure
- Publicizing an IP address gained through TAIV access is generally not allowed (e.g. ~2025-12345-67 previously edited as 192.0.2.1 or ~2025-12345-67's IP address is 192.0.2.1).
- Publicly linking a TA to another TA is allowed if "reasonably believed to be necessary". (e.g.
~2025-12345-67 and ~2025-12345-68 are likely the same person, so I am counting their reverts together toward 3RR
, but not Hey ~2025-12345-68, you did some good editing as ~2025-12345-67) - See Wikipedia:Temporary account IP viewer § What can and can't be said for more detailed guidelines.
Useful tools for patrollers
- It is possible to view if a user has opted-in to view temporary account IPs via the User Info card, available in Preferences → Appearance → Advanced options →
Enable the user info card
- This feature also makes it possible for anyone to see the approximate count of temporary accounts active on the same IP address range.
- Special:IPContributions allows viewing all edits and temporary accounts connected to a specific IP address or IP range.
- Similarly, Special:GlobalContributions supports global search for a given temporary account's activity.
- The auto-reveal feature (see video below) allows users with the right permissions to automatically reveal all IP addresses for a limited time window.

ArbCom 2025 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2025 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 1 December 2025. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2025 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:21, 18 November 2025 (UTC)
Mass Merge of Airports?
I don't disagree, but I would be interested to read the discussion that led to such a large change. Benfwilliamson (talk) 04:53, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- There wasn't one as such but Wikipedia:Be bold applies. I created a lot of these minor airports in 2005 / 2006 when standards for notability were lower and stubs like these were welcomed. Although some were sent to AfD (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Esterhazy Airport) the outcome tended to be keep. However, as Wikipedia grew things were tightened up and now the outcome for these sorts of airports runs to redirect, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bracebridge West Aerodrome, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mont-Tremblant/Lac Ouimet Water Aerodrome, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Winnipeg/Lyncrest Airport, and there are others.
- I have made sure not to redirect any airport that has scheduled flights (Fort Chipewyan Airport for example), sourced information (not from the Canada Flight Supplement) that appears to provide notability (Airdrie Aerodrome for example), or appears that it might have some notability (Drumheller Municipal Airport) but not sourced. Others like Banff Airport (now at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Banff Airport) had a source but really didn't seem to prove notability.
- Over the last five years I haven't had access to the Canada Flight Supplement so I haven't been able to keep these updated. I'm not going to create any more of these stub articles but will create redirects to the lists. I'm a bit surprised that nobody has asked about this before. I've completed every province and territory except for Alberta and Ontario. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:38, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Forgot to tag Revirvlkodlaku. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 17:39, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Banff Airport
Hello CambridgeBayWeather, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
While your contributions are appreciated, I wanted to let you know that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Banff Airport, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Banff Airport.
Deletion discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. Our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. The most common issue in these discussions is notability, but it's not the only aspect that may be discussed; read the nomination and any other comments carefully before you contribute to the discussion. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TheLongTone}}. And don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

The...
We say the Irish, the French, the Koreans, the English. Your removal of "the" Inuit doesn't make sense. Masterhatch (talk) 09:55, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- Did you look at the reference I gave in the summary? Inuk, Inuit (Linguistic recommendation from the Translation Bureau) and quoting from there: "Since Inuit means "the people" in Inuktitut, do not use the definite article “the” or the word “people” in combination with Inuit:" Now there may well be other style guides that say it's OK to do that but at this point I haven't seen anything to the contrary. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 10:01, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- I just remembered that there was a minor and inconclusive discussion (non-binding and not necessarily reflecting a sitewide consensus) at Talk:Inuit/Archive 3. In some places it doesn't make sense to remove the extra "the" and I tried not to. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 10:07, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- I did look at it. It says "recommendation". Also, Wikipedia is not a reconciliation website. We commonly say "the Inuit". Some of the "the"s you removed read ok, but others leave the sentence reading funny. Masterhatch (talk) 10:07, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- I never said it was anything to do with reconciliation. Where di you get that idea? I'm just following a style recommendation exactly the same as editors do when they follow the recommendations given in the Wikipedia:Manual of Style. In this case there is no guidance given in the MOS so an external guide is what I'm using. Is there another guide that you know of with an alternative usage? What about sticking an s on the end of the already plural Inuit or saying "Inuit people" ("the real people people)? These are also covered in that guide but not by our own internal MOS. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 10:18, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- The second paragraph of the link you used to justify the removal of "the" says "A concern for reconciliation and inclusivity requires that, when referring to Indigenous persons, we use the terms preferred by the community. Thus, we refer to the traditional inhabitants of Canada's northern regions and Arctic coastline by the terms Inuk and Inuit." That's where I got that "the" is being dropped for reconcilation. Anyways, it's not a big deal for me. I just saw that the sentences read strangley without "the" and I was trying to inquire why you were removing "the"s from multiple articles (your edits are always coming across my watch list and this was the first head scratcher). Masterhatch (talk) 10:34, 19 January 2026 (UTC)
- I never really paid attention to that part. I was more interested in using the correct English version. After all the years up here I'm not always sure that I'm using any proper English or a mixture of British, Canadian or Canadian Arctic English. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 10:47, 19 January 2026 (UTC)

Try unprot
Please tryunprot at Anita Sarkeesian a page you extended confirmed protected eight years ago. I think the reasoning is obsolete Czarking0 (talk) 02:59, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
- The protection came about because of the ongoing Gamergate controversy, see Wikipedia:Arbitration/Requests/Case/GamerGate. Some editors were blocked for their edits, Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log/2014 and Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log/2015 (search for Anita Sarkeesian). Eventually, Ymblanter used extended confirmed protection (ECP) as per the arbitration, Wikipedia:Arbitration enforcement log/2016#Page-level sanctions. Due to an edit war I fully protected the page but when I unprotected it I accidentally forgot to restore the ECP and did so later when it was pointed out, User talk:CambridgeBayWeather/Archive49#Regarding Recent Full Protection Action and the section below that. However, I don't see that the arbitration enforcement has been set aside so I won't remove the protection at this time. You appear to be extended confirmed so you should be able to edit the page. Speedy deletion nomination of Binder Pal Fateh

A tag has been placed on Binder Pal Fateh requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.

At least one diff per area expanded into should be cited.

Template:Nuba peoples
Hello. I'm writing because I noticed that several years ago, on May 22, 2023, you deleted a template about the Nuba ethnic groups (Template:Nuba peoples). Was there a specific reason for this? I initially thought creating that template could be useful, but I discovered it existed in the past but had been deleted. Isinbill (talk) 21:29, 22 February 2026 (UTC)
- It wasn't a template but a redirect. What I deleted consisted of the following:
- #REDIRECT [[Nuba peoples]]
- {{Redirect category shell|
- {{R from move}}
- }}
- This is how the template looked when it was moved from Nuba peoples to Template:Nuba peoples. In neither of the above cases was it a template but an article and Wikipedia doesn't redirect from templates to articles. Here's an example of a proper template {{Inuit}}. Cheers. Legislature in infobox
Hi CambridgeBayWeather, I just changed Legislative Assembly” to “Legislature” in the Nunavut infobox, and it came up red-lined. I will do an article on the legislature as soon as I can (I’m on the road this week). Reason is that constitutionally the assembly is not the legislature. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 22:32, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- Can you not just move Legislative Assembly of Nunavut to Legislature of Nunavut? CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqtuq (talk), Huliva 22:42, 23 February 2026 (UTC)
- The Legislative Assembly is not the same thing as the Legislature, just like the House of Commons is not the same thing as Parliament. So, would have to re-write the Legislative Assembly article extensively to give it the new name. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 03:26, 24 February 2026 (UTC)

Courtenay, British Columbia
I hope it's not too cold up there. I see you have edited Courtenay, British Columbia in the past. Would you have a moment to look at the edit history? I'd rather not keep reverting what appears to be unsourced original research by an IP. A second set of eyes would be much appreciated. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 20:23, 28 February 2026 (UTC)
- Definitely OR and unsourced. There were statement that are probably true but without a source. I was amused by the idea that summer in Courtenay is dry but without comparing it anything. Also noted that the driest month 26.7 mm (1.05 in) is about the same as our wettest month 28.0 mm (1.10 in). The entire paragraph consisted of unsourced statements.
- By the way this has been one of the coldest winters in years. We've had 3 - 4 weeks with daily temperatures dropping below {{cvt}-40|C}} and wind chills dropping to -60. - Regarding your reversions of some of my page moves for the reason "Use standard naming conventions", I assume the conventions you are talking about is WP:VIETPLACE. However, those conventions only applies to cities, towns and districts, which were abolished as part of the 2025 Vietnamese administrative reform. It doesn't really apply to the current second-level subdivisions, which are wards and communes (the subject of the articles that I moved). Therefore I'm starting a RfC to revise the conventions. If you can, please participate in the discussion. Thanks! Kynguyenvuonminh (talk) 18:58, 14 March 2026 (UTC)
Airport near Palo, Sk?
Hello! I come to you because you seem to have quite the handle on airports in Saskatchewan. I'm looking at creating an article called Whiteshore Lake near Palo, Saskatchewan. There seems to be renewed interest in the salt mine at the lake. As I'm busy researching, I noticed that there's an airport at the lake. It appears to be abandoned. But I can't find a name to it. Any ideas? Masterhatch (talk) 01:29, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- I see the runway on Google Earth. Before I looked at it I thought it might have been part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan but there's not enough room for the standard triangle. It could be an abandoned runway, as you said, built to service the salt mine. Unfortunately, the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) no longer lists runways that are abandoned but still visible. The other possibility is that a local has a need for a runway and decided to build one but not get it registered or certified, see Aerodrome#Canada. Sorry I can't help better than that. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqatigijaa (talk), Huliva 11:49, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- Just saw this. What I'm seeing in the second picture looks like a hangar and the runway. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqatigijaa (talk), Huliva 11:57, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. I had actually first noticed the "airport" here and thought if that site has an airplane icon, it must have a name. That site doesn't usually show airplane icons for privately built unregistered runways such as you'd find for farmer's crop dusters. Again, thanks you for your help. Masterhatch (talk) 15:34, 21 March 2026 (UTC)
- That's funny. I use those maps all the time but I never noticed the airplane icon before CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqatigijaa (talk), Huliva 16:53, 21 March 2026 (UTC)

Second Lady or Second Gentleman of Colombia
I see that you removed the change you made to the name, and the article is now called "Second ladies and gentlemen of Colombia" again. What prompted the change? PierceGrant (talk) 18:44, 12 April 2026 (UTC)
- It's not a phrase that should be capitalised and it was a undiscussed move. The title "Second Lady or Second Gentleman of Colombia" would seem to violate Wikipedia:Article titles, so a discussion should be held first. All you need to do is follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. I only edited it because
wiki had picked up information meant for Grainville Playing Fields about the 1978 Royal Visit and put in into Grainville Schools page which is physically located next door. As I was a child during the Royal visit, I remember going back to school and being put in a bus to go there and even have a book that proves it was on the playing fields and exactly where my school, Grands Vaux Primary School stood and it was not at the school next door also called Grainville that didnt open until 1980. I live in the UK now but younger Jersey people were querying how was this possible, what are they trying to cover up. https://jerripedia.org/wiki/Jerripedia also showed the descrepancies. As I had a wiki account anyway with old editing skills as a website designer many years ago and that I promised that I would correct something if I saw incorrect information when my wiki account was updated, then I have done so, my gramma may not be perfect but my fact change was accurate. I don't like cricket, I don't like sports but that was the location where the Royals visited in 1978 and it's called Grainville Playing Fields and it's not the school next door because it wasn't open yet, neither is it in France. I have done my bit, but after the fuss you have made, I ask myself why bother, you should have done it yourself in the first place but you didn't because you didn't notice and left the obvious inaccuracies, but that is the whole point of wiki that we add what we know, and learn from it what we don't! Susie Dragonhugger69 (talk) 13:41, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- The only reason I saw the article was because you moved it. All I did was tidy up the article a bit and provide links to other Wikipedia articles. I don’t think I removed any material, other than the external links, and I apologise if I did. Look at Wikipedia:External links#Links normally to be avoided, #19. That's why the links were removed. Most readers will know waht cricket, bowels, tennis and rugby are so it's better to have links to the field they play on rather than the sport. I'd forgotten the difference between the cricket pitch and field which you corrected as I haven't played the game in over 50 years. Not a common sport in the Canadian Arctic. I hope you will stick around and edit more. One thing you might be able to create an article on is the 178 Royal Visit. Cheers. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqatigijaa (talk), Huliva 15:10, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- I need help first, if going to be 100% accurate on the Grainville School page the map for some reason marks out the whole area including the playing fields, that isn't accurate its next door and doesnt encompass the fields, the entrance is on Deloraine Road rather than St Saviours Hill where the entrance to the Playing fields are, can the map be altered? The interactive one on the playing field page is better because it just sticks a pin. Is it possible to change maps, or how is it best to make the locations accurate?
- I can do a 1978 Royal visit one, I have access to some archive photographs, I also have a scanner which could scan the book page showing where we all the schools stood, I have never seen a copy of that online, that would put an end to all doubts of what was where, but first can you please help me do something with this map on the school page. :) Dragonhugger69 (talk) 15:33, 3 May 2026 (UTC)
- Please don't scan things. They are probably still under copyright and Wikipedia can't use copyright material. Unfortunately, I'm just getting ready to leave town for a few days. You can ask for help at Wikipedia:Help desk. They will be more than happy to help. CambridgeBayWeather (#1 deranged), Uqaqatigijaa (talk), Huliva 16:02, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

@CambridgeBayWeather: I noticed you deleted the page on Corgi I created yesterday. You cited G4, but that deletion discussion was 6 months ago and a lot more press has surfaced, which is how I discovered the company. I also did not make that old page so it can't be a "sufficiently identical copy", so this appears erroneous. Thanks CherryPie94 🍒🥧 (talk) 18:39, 3 May 2026 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – May 2026
News and updates for administrators from the past month (April 2026).

Interface administrator changes
- Changes to user permissions made from Meta are now included in the local user permissions log (T6055).
- The autoconfirmed user group will soon be modified such that the four-day account age requirement begins when an account makes its first edit (T418484).
- The arbitration case SchroCat has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case closed on 15 April.
- Per a recent motion, appeals of blocks from the conflict-of-interest VRT queue are, by default, appealed on-wiki through the normal unblock process. However, they may be heard by the Committee if COIVRTers disagree on the interpretation of the evidence or believe ArbCom would be better suited to hear the appeal. Administrators are also advised that loosening or lifting such blocks without the consent of someone with access to the queue or ArbCom can be grounds for desysopping.
- Per a recent motion, restrictions issued directly by the Committee may now be enforced with blocks which work exactly like contentious topic blocks.
- The arbitration case Maghreb has been closed.
- The May 2026 administrator elections are scheduled to run from April 29 to May 19. The call for candidates ends May 5.
- The 2026 Universal Code of Conduct Coordinating Committee (U4C) election is scheduled to run from April 25 to June 1. Candidacy submissions close on May 10.
- A new noticeboard for non-urgent, batch page protection requests has been created, primarily for the enforcement of contentious topic restrictions.

Page move for Andy Saunders
Hi there, hope this is the right place for this sort of message. Apologies if not. I was hoping to change the name of the Andy Saunders page. The disambiguator for Andy Saunders isn’t really accurate. He’s written two books which I feel makes him an author not just a film restorer. Is it possible to change it? If further evidence is needs I can see if I can source some or if I’m approaching this wrong, please let me know.
thanks in advance for the feedback JaymoA (talk) 22:27, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
- It's a bit difficult as there is already an Andy Saunders (author). Normally that would be fixed by adding the nationality to them giving Andy Saunders (British author). Except they are both British. You could go with "Andy Saunders (author, born yyyy)" but neither of them has a birthday. One possibility is Andy Saunders (film restorer) has a line saying "He is best known for creating the only clear image of Neil Armstrong on the moon and for his book, Apollo Remastered." so you could go with Andy Saunders (imaging specialist). What we need to stay away from is saying Andy Saunders (profession and other profession). The idea is to be concise.
