2025 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses in the Netherlands
Could it not just be merged into Gaza war protests or a general article about Gaza war protests in the Netherlands? I don't see why specifically university protests should have their own page. GarethBaloney 05:54, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- All of these articles are already quite long on their own. Each year of protests has distinct universities involved and with very different reactions from the police, media, and the universities. Plus these protests are not just about the latest Gaza war but about the long-standing genocide of Palestinians. Afonso Dimas Martins (talk) 07:45, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- I just don't think an article specifically about Gaza War protests specifically this year specifically in the Netherlands is warranted. The article is also Start-class so long does not equal good. The articles about specific protests too is very specific and they probably don't need their own articles either.
- GarethBaloney 12:30, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @GarethBaloney. I was simply following the templates of other similar pages like
- - 2024 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses in the Netherlands
- - 2024 University of Amsterdam pro-Palestinian campus occupations
- - 2024 Utrecht University pro-Palestinian campus occupations
- - 2024 Radboud University Nijmegen pro-Palestinian campus occupations
- As you can see all are already quite large, have been well-covered in the media here, and are well-sourced.
- The page you mention, of the ongoing 2025 pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses in the Netherlands already has more than 50 sources... and we're still in early June.
- In my opinion merging all of this would make things more confusing, not less. Afonso Dimas Martins (talk) 13:39, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- Okay fair enough. Also for some reason the only other language those articles are in (aside from the one about the University of Amsterdam) is Arabic and not Dutch. GarethBaloney 16:08, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- That has to do with the fact that the different language Wikipedias are not just translations, they are localizations. This means they need to adhere to the rules of that specific community. Some like the Dutch Wikipedia seem to prefer to not have these pages (for now at least) as they have a different definition of what is considered of "encyclopedic value". In English Wikipedia if the subject is well-covered by independent sources it most likely will be considered notable, but Dutch Wikipedia from my understanding seems to be stricter regarding this. Afonso Dimas Martins (talk) 16:16, 6 June 2025 (UTC)
- I wonder why Dutch Wikipedia has a stricter set of guidelines. Maybe it's because 90%+ of the population can speak English so for many articles they can just check there? GarethBaloney 18:26, 6 June 2025 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia's norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have an expanded level of powers and discretion in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practices;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged in, have 500 edits, and have an account age of 30 days, and you are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on any page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures, you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.

Proposed deletion of List of pro-Palestinian protests in Albania
Hello, Afonso Dimas Martins
Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username Klbrain, and I thank you for your contributions.
I wanted to let you know, however, that I've proposed an article that you started, List of pro-Palestinian protests in Albania, for deletion because it meets one or more of our deletion criteria, and I don't think that it is suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. The particular issue can be found in the notice that is now visible at the top of the article.
If you wish to contest the deletion:
- Edit the page
- Remove the text that looks like this:
{{proposed deletion/dated...}} - Click the button.
If you object to the article's deletion, please remember to explain why you think the article should be kept on the article's talk page and improve the page to address the issues raised in the deletion notice. Otherwise, it may be deleted later by other means.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Klbrain}}. And remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. Thanks!
(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)
Klbrain (talk) 18:46, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- Hi @Klbrain, thank you for your suggestion. I agree that the page needs some work, and since it was just created a couple of hours ago, more content will be added. I don't agree however that there should be a requirement of a source for such a list. That does not exist for this page, not for any of the pages for the countries - or even for other lists on Wikipedia like List of airlines of Algeria or List of drive-in theatres in Australia, but that doesn't take away value from categorizing knowledge from individual sources into neatly organized lists compiling all information in one place. I hope my argument doesn't sound too much "whataboutist", but requiring a source for the need of lists like this would be a huge constraint on virtually all lists on Wikipedia. Let me know what you think. Afonso Dimas Martins (talk) 20:13, 30 October 2025 (UTC)
- I'm strongly of the view that lists are usually pointless, the only possible justification for the their existence being WP:NLIST; my view is that categories are a better way of listing things, and to have two overlapping systems, with the associated maintainence, is wasteful. Lists are not immune from the requirement of notability, and we establish notability through reliable sources. Note that List of airlines of Algeria does have references to the list, although they seem to be behind paywalls. List of drive-in theatres in Australia is badly named, as it really covers Drive-in theatres in Australia and is heavily referenced, including references that cover multiple drive-ins. So, I don't think that either of those examples support your case. However, I also accept that I'm at one end of the distribution on this! I won't object to a de-prod, but can't see a reason to keep the article at the moment. Klbrain (talk) 21:22, 30 October 2025 (UTC)

| Thank you for your help in fixing the articles with Template:Year in France with me! Whether or not you knew this standardization was underway I'm not sure, but you can imagine my happiness when seeing dozens of articles I hadn't gotten to yet had the updated template, so truly thank you for your work! Thanks for this article. I'm glad to see several of the articles I started are linked. I made a few changes but it reads very well. When doing what appears to be an almost direct translation, please check that the citations are still live. A few of those in this article seem to no longer exist. It would be good to add |access-date= ?? February 2026| to the citation to show that you have checked. Roundtheworld (talk) 09:22, 17 February 2026 (UTC)
