DYK for Hester Leggatt
On 19 May 2025, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Hester Leggatt, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that MI5 secretary Hester Leggatt wrote convincing fake love letters for the WWII deception mission Operation Mincemeat? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hester Leggatt. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Hester Leggatt), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Newspaper.com clippings
Re. Your comments on the use of clippings from Newspapers.com. Are there official guidelines on their use? I'm also interested in your comments on the links to page images breaking as it's not an issue I've encountered. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 16:42, 22 December 2025 (UTC))
- Thanks for your explanation. Leaving aside broken links, the rationale for using clippings is deeply flawed because only five may be viewed without the need to take out a subscription. Viewing the same clipping more than once counts towards that total. My opinion is that in this respect clippings are therefore of very limited value, and the fact I added links to the pages containing the cited articles was a deliberate choice. The text of Wikipedia:Newspapers.com is highly misleading. As for links going AWOL, before I could make a judgement I'd want to see an explanation why this might be the case, preferably accompanied by data from a scientifically rigorous analysis in order to determine the scale of the problem. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 10:44, 23 December 2025 (UTC))
I've now amended the text of Wikipedia:Newspapers.com so that it reflects reality, the other issue being that the complete newspaper page containing a clipped article can only be accessed if the reader takes out a 7-day trial (or full) subscription. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 12:25, 28 December 2025 (UTC))
Also, clippings archived by the Wayback Machine can't be accessed without a subscription of some kind, which WP:Newspapers didn't make clear. (Edwin of Northumbria (talk) 13:08, 28 December 2025 (UTC))
