Wikipedia:Proposed article splits

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Proposed article splits is a noticeboard for active discussions to split an article into separate articles. Usually, articles are split if they're too large or an element of an existing article gains enough notoriety. Before listing a split discussion here, read Wikipedia:Splitting and initiate a discussion on the article's talk page. Listing an ongoing split discussion here is purely optional, but can help reach consensus.

This noticeboard is not for:

 • Proposing splits without starting a discussion on the article's talk page. Listings that do not link to a merge discussion will be removed from this noticeboard.
 • Discussing proposed splits. A link to the split discussion should be included in the listing and consensus to split should be reached there, not on this noticeboard. Comments of support or opposition may be removed.
 • Listing article merges or moves. For these, see Proposed article mergers and Moving a page;

If a split is unlikely to be contested, you can be bold and complete it without initiating a discussion. If your split is later contested, another editor can revert and discuss it. To see all articles currently tagged for merging, see § All articles tagged for merging, as well as Category:Articles proposed for merging. If consensus to split is reached on the article's talk page, the listing on this noticeboard should be moved into the section § Successful requests, merger pending and tagged with AwaitAwaiting split.... If consensus against splitting is reached, the listing can be tagged with Not done and it can be archived.

To tag the article and initiate a split discussion, follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Splitting § Procedure. Once the article has been tagged and a discussion has been opened, you can list the split discussion to the bottom of this list using the format:

* Split Original article into First split article and Second split article. ~~~~

Articles proposed for splitting

When there is consensus to split, please move the request to the bottom of this list. When the split has been completed, reply to the request with Merge done and it will be archived.

 • Split List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise into List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi Junior High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi High, List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: The Next Generation and List of awards and nominations received by Degrassi: Next Class. The list is way too long and convoluted. The fact that it is sorted by award and not by series, while I feel it isn't necessarily wrong, is a bit hard to follow for such a large franchise. Each series has a wealth of sourced awards and nominations that would warrant standalone articles anyway, especially Degrassi: The Next Generation. If the consensus is against splitting Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High, their awards and nominations can also easily be reproduced in prose on their respective pages. If agreed, I cannot do the split. See discussion at Talk:List of awards and nominations received by the Degrassi franchise#Proposed split. ToQ100gou (talk) 04:43, 4 May 2021 (UTC)
