Your submission at Articles for creation: 3rd Indiana Volunteers (Mexican-American War) (November 6)

- Promotional tone, editorializing and other words to watch
- Vague, generic, and speculative statements extrapolated from similar subjects
- Essay-like writing
- Hallucinations (plausible-sounding, but false information) and non-existent references
- Close paraphrasing
- If you would like to continue working on the submission, go to Draft:3rd Indiana Volunteers (Mexican-American War) and click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window.
- If you do not edit your draft in the next 6 months, it will be considered abandoned and may be deleted.
- If you need any assistance, or have experienced any untoward behavior associated with this submission, you can ask for help at the Articles for creation help desk, on the reviewer's talk page or use Wikipedia's real-time chat help from experienced editors.
- Hello, none of this section was AI generated. Some of it was borrowed from the 1st Indiana Volunteers and the 5th Indiana Volunteers which I have contributed to both pages before I had an account on here. The entire page had been edited by me and hand typed with citations before I submitted it. So I do not know why you are accusing me of using ChatGPT or AI, but this is not the case. I have contributed many new pages to Wikipedia including: Henning Von Minden, Alfred Bruce Brackett, and Asgrim Knutson Skaro among many others if you'd like to look at those for example of my writing style, but I have never used AI to create any of these pages. If you could please reconsider this course of action that would be great as I would like to have the article approved so that people can know abut Indiana's service during the Mexican-American War. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your recent edits to Frederick E. DuToit when you modified the page, you introduced unknown parameters. Just because you specify |some_param=some_variable does not always mean that variable will display. The |some_param= must be defined in the template. You can look at the documentation for the template you are using but it is also helpful to use the preview button before you save your edit; this helps you find any errors you have made and ensure that the values you have added are displaying correctly. Below the edit box is a Show preview button. Pressing this will show you what the page will look like without actually saving it. It is strongly recommended that you use this before saving. If you have any questions, contact the help desk for assistance.
Thank you. Zackmann (Talk to me/What I been doing) 16:34, 15 November 2025 (UTC)
Hello HappyHistorian1862! Your additions to Indian removals in Minnesota have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license—to request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § Licensing.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 04:45, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

The listing can be found here. Thank you. MmeMaigret (talk) 12:45, 26 November 2025 (UTC)
- Hello MmeMaigret,
- None of my edits have been deliberate in trying to use copywritten materials, if I have I apologize. I just wanted to say that plainly and be clear from the start. If I have issues with materials then I will remove them from the pages and edit them so they are not in violation. Although I am "new" with this account, I have been editing and contributing towards pages (primarily history pages) since January, 2025 or earlier before I made this formal account. Yes I am relatively new, but none of this has been deliberate to get in trouble or have issues with people, just negligent on my behalf. I would suggest that your read my other pages besides the 6 you have chosen, such as Judson Wade Bishop OR Edwin Aaron Clark Hatch which were both written by me before I had a formal account on here. In the meantime I will make edits or remove sections from the articles you have informed me about to correct them to be in-line with Wikipedia's Terms of Service. Thanks, and I hope I can keep editing and contributing towards WP. HappyHistorian1862 (talk) 14:39, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

| Welcome to Wikipedia, with more emphasis! Your new works are good and quite welcome. You should be getting some WP:DYK credit and some front page exposure (which is much more benign than it sounds). These are quality pages, and we are most fortunate to help you along in your contributions if you need such.. BusterD (talk) 14:40, 9 December 2025 (UTC) |
- I wasn't kidding about WP:Did you know. It's a place on Wikipedia where you can get some high quality reviews of your work while advancing your newest pages to en.wiki's front page DYK section. I see you've been working through some calibration issues with close paraphrasing. Best to make a bunch of mistakes up front, IMHO. Take all this attention (especially strong critique) as interest from others. If they didn't think it was any good, they wouldn't have spent so much time and trouble trying to see your work improve. It's never "Thank you sir, may I have another?" It's more like, "Thank you sir, would you like to know more?" Didn't intend the Heinlein subreference... BusterD (talk) 15:04, 9 December 2025 (UTC)

I had left a message that I accepted the article for creation with a B class assessment. Peacemaker67 had already accepted it as C class and, more importantly, was more careful than I was in noting that some of the citations are from web pages of questionable reliability. Some state history sites are carefully prepared and have editorial, often scholarly. oversight. On the other hand, some, as Peacemaker67 pointed out, are prepared by enthusiasts. These writers may not have based their entries on reliable sources and could be little more trustworthy as reliable sources than the average blogger. The key here is verifiability, which depends in large part on the credentials of the writers and their sources, not just their existence on line. Secondary sources are preferred, though occasionally primary sources can be used though maybe just as information when there are conflicting views in secondary sources. History magazines with editorial oversight and articles written by reliable sources can be reliable sources. Books often are.
I apologize for a less thorough review and any confusion caused by it. I will note that it is not always correct to accept an "encyclopedia" at face value as an actual reliable source, which is what I did here without checking. I think I am usually more thorough and helpful. This is a reminder to me to continue to be more alert. I note that I am also open to change if someone notes that I have made a misjudgment or mistake. The best result, as quickly as possible, with change as necessary, is my goal. So I hope you can still ask questions to me in general, given opinions or question reviews about any of my assessments or reviews in the future. Welcome to Wikipedia and military history and keep up the good work. Donner60 (talk) 04:54, 15 December 2025 (UTC)

- Hello TheObsidianGriffon, thanks for the reply. I will make edits. Robert Burdick does meet the basics of WP:GNG because he is a political office holder (Deputy of the Rhode Island General Assembly) and an elected official of the colony of Rhode Island, not to mention a clergyman which meets the criteria for WP:CLERGY. I know that the resources I have used are a lot of genealogical and state history books, but they do mention the candidate time and time again. I would believe this would at the very least constitute a stub article page similar to Rhode Island colonists like Tobias Saunders. Thanks. HappyHistorian1862 (talk) 22:03, 7 January 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @HappyHistorian1862: WP:GNG does not say any of what you said. WP:CLERGY says that bishops of major denominations, chief rabbis of nation states with large Jewish populations, and other heads of major denominations are presumed notable. If Burdick was a bishop of a major church (or held a higher title like an archbishop, pope, etc), that should be added to the page. TheObsidianGriffon (talk) 22:33, 7 January 2026 (UTC)

Thank you for your contributions to the page 7th Reval Infantry regiment, I suggest you fix the dates and commander list on the page I just accepted, it seems a bit clunky and hard to understand, if you look at this page —> 33rd Division (United Kingdom)#Commanders the commander list is simpler and easier to read, listing the full name a title, and then the date (in a traditional format). - Hello AdobongPogi,
- Yes, I can remove that source entirely and remove it from the page of Otto Salman and other recent ones I have created if that suffices. That page in specific looks like it utilizes overall sources from the German Historisches Marinearchiv (HMA): https://www.historisches-marinearchiv.de/ without attributing it from the HMA. I will remove this website as a source from the recent articles I have created and resubmit it. Thank you for the heads up, I appreciate the concern for corrected citations and sources. TarnishedPathtalk 04:01, 15 February 2026 (UTC)- @HappyHistorian1862, I thought about nominating this for WP:DYK. I was thinking about a hook discussing their role in the suppressing the Eureka Stockade. Something along the lines of
... that the Geelong Volunteer Rifle Corps were involved in suppressing the Eureka Stockade?
- However I wasn't confident doing so as I don't have access to Kuring's book to provide a quote from it in the nomination. I would highly encourage you to nominate the article. TarnishedPathtalk 04:32, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- Hello TarnishedPath, I was able to add a few more citation resources which would prove useful pertaining to the Geelong Volunteer Rifle Corps and their involvement in the Eureka Rebellion. If you would like to look into them please do so, they are available on Archive.org if you have an account. It would definitely be interesting to have the article featured on the WP:DYK page. Thanks. Minnastronomer (talk) 13:53, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Collaboration?
Hello! We've been in a lot of the same spaces in Minnesota history and I figure we could probably work together some. If you like, I can send you a list of some articles I would like written that are just a little out of the scope of what I'm working on at the moment. I'd also love to see if you have anything to add to some more recent articles I've finished, since I think you'd almost certainly have good info to add.
Let me know! Minnastronomer (talk) 22:04, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Minnastronomer,
- Yes, I'd definitely be interested, as long as you wouldn't mind proofreading and checking citations, etc. I've only been editing and writing articles on Wikipedia for a few months now, but I think I'm getting a lot better than when I originally started. A few hiccups here and there. We do indeed work on a lot of the same history, politics, and historical places articles, so I think working together would be better than working alone. Let me know what you had in mind and I will look into it. I've been trying to work recently on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Minnesota/List of wanted pages by topic as there's a few articles in there I could definitely edit or start. Thanks. HappyHistorian1862 (talk) 22:33, 6 April 2026 (UTC)
- I won't mind any side quests sent my way.
- There are a few statewide officials that need biographies. I'm very pleased with the articles you've written on some others. The ones most in need of ones are Charles Scheffer, David Blakeley, Edwin W. Dyke, Charles Kittelson, Grace F. Kaercher, and Walter J. Smith. I'd also love if you found some info on Charles H. Roberts, who was the last Greenback Party nominee for Gov. of MN, in 1881. Maybe he's not notable, Isaac C. Stearns, the prohibition party candidate in that election, I think certainly is based on what I know about him. Let me know if you work on any of these, I guess I'd probably see them in the articles-for-creation tab anyways.
- If there's anything specific you want me to work on or review, please tell me, I will check it out. Minnastronomer (talk) 04:30, 7 April 2026 (UTC)
- Hi Minnastronomer,
- I just finished the article for Edwin W. Dyke, if you or another editor from WP:MINN want to look at it and verify its contents that would be much appreciated. Thanks. HappyHistorian1862 (talk) 20:59, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Excellent article on Dyke, Blakeley too. Proving your value once again. I'll have to link them with the respective election pages, a project for when I'm with with the gubernatorial elections I'm currently overhauling. I'm at 1944 right now, so maybe in a month-or-so. Once again, very good work, I look forward to see more of your work. Minnastronomer (talk) 21:53, 13 April 2026 (UTC)
- Minnastronomer,
- I just sent the article for Charles Kittelson to the mainspace. Please take a look at it when you have the time. In the meantime, I've already added Kittelson's image and article link to the table on the Minnesota State Treasurer article. Thanks. HappyHistorian1862 (talk) 20:46, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
- Great work once again. I created a redirect from 'Charles Kittleson' to Charles Kittelson since a few articles used the alternative spelling, but that's about it. Great work. Minnastronomer (talk) 21:49, 14 April 2026 (UTC)
