PT Bongkotan Jati Utama (Bejeu) is a Indonesian bus company based in Jepara, Central Java. Its head office and garage are located at Jalan Sosrodiningrat, Ngabul, Tahunan, Jepara Regency, Central Java. Bejeu currently serves intercity, shuttles, and tourism. Bejeu is known as one of the main bus companies dominating the Pantura route in eastern Central Java, and is easily recognized by its buses, which are painted all black, hence the nickname "The Black Ones."[1]
PT Bongkotan Jati Utama was founded in 2002 by Muhammad Rofi'udin, son of furniture and teak wood entrepreneur Tosin Rosyad, along with his three brothers, Hanif Mukorrobin and Nur Fazin.[1] The name "Bejeu" was chosen because it is an acronym for the company's abbreviation, BJU. The name carries the philosophy that this business began as a teak log business owned by the founder. While others say that this word is also a play on words from the word "bejo," which means "lucky" in Javanese.[2]
In the early days of its operation, the governance of this bus company involved almost all members of the Rosyad family. Therefore, the Rosyad family members were assigned tasks, with Rofi'udin as the leader, assisted by his two younger brothers, Hanif Mukorrobin and Nur Fazin. Yusuf Helmi managed the bus fleet procurement department. Aminudin Azis, Yusuf Masdar, and Muhammad Iqbal managed the fleet's operations and services, and Rifki Muslim (Tosin Rosyad's youngest son) was in charge of public relations.
In its early days, Bejeu only had three buses, which Rofi'udin purchased at auction. Initially, these buses only offered rental services. Eventually, Bejeu entered the intercity bus market in 2007. Initially, Bejeu's intercity buses only served the Jepara–Jakarta route, with a final destination of Pulogadung Terminal. However, as time went by, Bejeu succeeded in opening routes to almost all major cities in Java Island such as DKI Jakarta and Bandung, West Java. Bejeu also successfully opened a route to Bali with the latest unit Hino RN 285 and Scorpion-X bodywork produced by Karoseri Tentrem Malang, and the Yogyakarta route with a shuttle bus format.[3][2]
On June 22, 2021, Rofi'udin finally passed away.[3] The top leadership was finally taken over by Iqbal, who previously served as operational director. Iqbal is known to have run for List of Deputy Regent of Jepara|Deputy Regent of Jepara in the 2024 Jepara Regent election.[4]
Fleet
Bejeu is known to operate a variety of chassis, ranging from Scania, Mercedes-Benz, Hino, and Volvo. Bejeu is also known for not being picky about bodywork, because bodies made by Laksana, Adi Putro, and Karoseri Tentrem, are all available. Bejeu is known for having more complete facilities with luxurious features, including coffee makers, passenger partitions, tea, meal service, and free snacks. Bejeu is also known as one of the pioneers of free Wi-Fi on the Muriaan route. The most luxurious class, VIP, features leg rests, LCD TVs, coffee makers, reclining seats, and USB chargers.[1][3][2]

Community
To accommodate the aspirations of passengers and loyal Bejeu fans, a Bejeu fan community called the Black Bus Community was established, active on the social networking site Facebook social networking site Facebook. As of 2023, this community had 136,000 members. The existence of this community is known to be very useful for channeling criticism, suggestions, and aspirations from both passengers and fans themselves.[7]
