The 2018 South Dakota Secretary of State election was held on November 6, 2018, to elect the next secretary of state of South Dakota. Incumbent Republican Shantel Krebs retired to run for U.S. House of Representatives.^[1] Republican South Dakota State Auditor Steve Barnett defeated Democrat Alexandra Frederick in a landslide to succeed Krebs.^[2]
